Help me organize my clients and work!

Here's the thing.

When I have work to do, I can't sleep, I can't eat, just to make it on time. It's like all the clients of the world have a party in my house.

When I don't have work to do, I can cry, offer discounts, even work for free, but a client willing to work with me is nowhere to be found.

It's either sun or rain, black or white, there's no middle ground. My wife is like, when you work you work, and when you don't have a job why don't you take some rest? And, I was like, I have to be on something not to worry when I don't have a single project at the moment. Einstein said something about the relativity of time. When you having a good time, then hours last like minutes. When you are in trouble and waiting for something then seconds turn into days. Einstein was painfully right.

I have an old school friend. He owns a company for PVC and aluminum windows and doors. So, I complained about my situation. This was a two beers advice I got. When a new client approaches him, he says, you have to wait from two weeks up to a month, because I have so much work to do. Some of them can't wait, but the ones they do, are the most grateful clients you can possibly wish for. Call me a coward, but this is something I wouldn't do even in my dreams.

It's just like living and dying from a wave to the next wave of overwhelming projects to take care of. And, I'm obviously not good at surfing on these waves. I know that first couple of years managing an independent business can be hard, but this has become a nightmare to me. When I am desperate I think about my old office and the 9-to-5 sanctuary. But, then I remember how much money I used to make and I am back in action.

There has to be a way, but I just don't know what it is. If I go on like this, then my high blood pressure is going to hit me hard at the worst possible moment. I still haven't earned enough to say, hey this month I'm going to play a hard to get game. If it is going to be like this for the rest of my days, then I obviously made the wrong independent turn.

What's your situation? What's your word of advice? Willing to share?
