Another Guru Kicked To The Curb

I waited a couple of months before posting this to cool down a bit, and am ready to share...

An extremely well known IM Guru with quite a stable of products on their own affiliate network, and I liked a particular product that was viral in nature and designed to produce traffic more than it was cash and included it in a program I promoted and taught in teleseminar settings. I gathered the info from those in the class, so I know that they each signed up for this particular service and yet not one of them (10 in all) showed up in my affiliate stats.

So I dutifully sent in a support ticket to find out what was up. I got a response in 2 days:

Everything is fine! No other answer of any kind.

Sent in another inquiry, and was told that I hadn't had a single signup on that program. I explained that I had, and how I knew that I had. Next response: Everything is fine on our end.

Well I responded that it obviously was not fine as their tracking didn't work. I did so politely and with no rancor at all. No response at all from that point forward.

After another 2 weeks of trying to get some kind of answer from the organization of this VERY well known marketer, I gave up. Took down everything I had up promoting his stuff and will never promote another of his products again.

Many of us out here are not well known names, and nobody will ever call us gurus. That doesn't mean we don't deserve to be treated fairly. This individual has had some great looking promotions going lately. A shame that if I got hooked into promoting them I already know I'd never see a dime...

Sorry to hear that... would you happen to have the names of the 10 people who purchased via your link?

That would just spread negativity, and we all need to stay positive. I commend you for not spreading bad news about someone. Heck! For all you know they may have been being completely honest and they really didn't think there was a problem on their end. You did the right thing, just stop promoting his stuff and move on to promoting something else.

Too much negative energy to keep going after him.

The only real reason I posted this was to (hopefully) give a wake up call to the big boys that we need to be treated fairly as well.

Yep I had the names of all ten people and provided them to the support people along with their usernames and emails. No response to that at all. I just took them over to a competing product. Son of a gun, every one showed up in my stats and I used the exact same cloaking method on the aff link...

Sorry to hear that Floyd. I can see your point about the "negative energy" in going after this well-known marketer...but what goes around comes around.

Spreading negativity? Isn't it kind of negative when you are not being paid your due commish?

I would give up his/her name to anybody that sent me a PM and maybe save some fellow marketers from wasting their time. But that's just me...

    Hi Floyd,

I commend you too for showing a little restraint, so good going. I think you were also right to move on, and take your customer base with you! Smart move.

There is one thing though I hope people realize - just because there's a bad apple in the bunch doesn't mean they are all bad.

Also, I don't distinguish between "Big Boys/Girls" or "little people" vrs. "Big". The truth is, people who market on the Internet are all Internet Marketers whether they make gobs of money or not.

Some are very successful, others are not, and still others are just plumb stupid lol.

In your case, that person whom you respected at one time no longer deserves your respect!

  • I hear you man.

I promoted a very well known product that launched 4 months ago. I got few thousand bucks in commissions that never got paid. Upon multiple (and ignored) emails, I managed them to send me the payment check... and when it arrived it was only for HALF of what was meant to be.

Way to go to piss off your affiliates. Obviously, I will never promoted anything from that marketer.

All those who are so eager to get the name of the culprit ... you seem to be unaware that it is against WF TOS to name him/her/those you have a dispute with on the forum and could get him banned if he did so.

I have had problems like this as well. One case in particular, I decided it was the virtual assistant that just did not want to be responsible to get a problem fixed. it went back and forth for a while and I finally quite the script membership.

So sometimes we think it is the business owner, but it can be the assistant that does not carry through.

So it might be good for those with va's to have someone check up on them once in a while.

That has no bearing on the issue. The buck stops with the owner.

I have actually had it happen twice, both time I offered bonuses and the bonus claims came in and the commissions did not. THey two involved are very close, Mentor and "mentee" if you will. And my bet is we are most likely talking about the same person.

"and I used the exact same cloaking method on the aff link..."

How did you cloak the link? Maybe that was the problem. For example if your method included using frames the cookie may not have set.

Give them every chance behind closed doors. Warn them that you will take it public if they dont want to work with you. Give then every chance.

In your case, I would suggest to ask to do a test run, since maybe it is there system, maybe it is your link. I had this issue where I found that my person put the link in wrong (I did not accuse them, I just saw 500 visitors and no sales, made no sense from past experience).

Work with them first, if that does not work, then dont hesitate to share who they are.

It sounds like you handled it very well, Floyd!

Business is an interesting venture - someone you may brush off today because they're "small fry" might be tomorrows next "guru".

The names at the top constantly change, and new faces are making it big all the time.

I agree that everyone should be treated with respect no matter how big or small their business is, because EVERY single customer is important. But on the other side of it, you just never know who is going to be the next big name, and you may have brushed off a potentional business partner in the making.

    cheers
