Subdomain for online course?

Hey guys! My question is, do I need a subdomain for the member's area for my online course? I use wordperss.
My idea is to host the membership site on the subdomain and the launch sequence on the main domain.
For the record my blog is on entire different domain!

    Whatever membership plugin you choose will give you all the options for proper setup. but most are on sub domains.

    I do this all the time. Mian domain for sales page and subdomain or subfolder for members area.

    That way the two are independent so you can use one site or WP install to focus on sales pages /squeeze pages etc and the other to use as a membership site.
