Does Google have any relevant competitors today? And what about tomorrow?
Obviously I wont need to tell anyone here about the dominance of google in todays internet game, and no-one would be saying anything revolutionary by talking about that dominance on this forum which is filled with may people who make a living by understanding and utilizing their knowledge on the nature and intricacies of that dominance.
But the my question today, although its not really a question, I just want your opinions on whether you think the current search engine competitors to google are offering any meaningful competition and whether they are gaining any ground on the big G?
Also, how do you see the market evolving in years to come? At a glance it seems that google has pulled too far ahead and offers products and services that are too comprehensive, simple and and slick that the current competition is rightfully well behind. But can you see any significant gains being made in the future by any of its competitors.
As is said, no one can know this for certain, but I just wanted to know if you guys think that its pretty much game over as far as having more than one relevant search engine on the game. Are googles products too slick, its reach too large and its fingers in too many pies. Do you think people might grow weary of the fact that google probably knows more about their habbits and what they do than their husband or wife? Or is willful ignorance too powerful a factor for consumers?
Anyway thanks folks, Ill be interested to hear what you think about this.
