Question: Getting paid from Amazon Associates AND Brand Vendors

With Amazon affiliate programs offering such a low rate, what do you think of the idea of setting up an agreement between Brand Vendors (who only sell on Amazon) and Affiliates where the Affiliates would get the standard Amazon affiliate commission AND extra commission from the Brand Vendor for every unit sold? So basically, the Affiliate would get a check from Amazon at the end of the month and another check from the Brand Vendor once they have a way to confirm the number of sales that they brought to the Vendors product page on Amazon.

Disclosure: I am a brand vendor with products on Amazon. We have excellent conversion rates but need to drive more traffic to the product page, and we need to do this quite rapidly.

I've tried to search but have not found any discussion on this topic.

In theory, this idea sounds good. But Amazon might have a problem with it. To be safe, I'd contact the Amazon Associates support and ask if this would violate their terms. If so, you'd risk your account and the vendor account getting terminated.

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I'm worrying about as well. I can't find anything that opposes this on Amazon T&C and can't believe that no one have tried doing this.

While Amazon affiliates would welcome the additional income, there is no way for the Brand Vendor (you) to be notified WHO refers sales of your product on Amazon - therefore, no way for you to know what affiliate has earned extra commission, or how much.

Even if the affiliate sent his/her traffic to your site first, the Vendor could record the fact that they made a referral, but then the Vendor would have to redirect the visitor to Amazon for the purchase and would have no way of tracking that Amazon visit back to an actual sale.

An alternative that could work would be to set up an affiliate program and a product sales page on your own site (with higher commissions than Amazon) and attract your own affiliates to promote your site directly. However, you would then have to handle your own product delivery - not a big problem if it is a digital download, but a much bigger problem if it is a physical product.

Thank for the reply Sid. Do you know if Amazon provides any sales and traffic data to Associates along with their commission payment? By reading your reply, it seems that Associates may only be getting a commission check at the end of the month without knowing what they brought to Amazon in terms of traffic and conversion rate.

My initial thinking was that I can get some data from Associates showing units sold, or commission paid per particular product. That way I can provide an additional bonus based off the Amazon commission for that particular item/product. I’m not at all familiar with what data is being provided to the Associates member at the end of the month.

We do sell physical products and will be converting to Multi-Channel Fulfillment at some point in the future. We are selling at a pretty good conversion rate right now on Amazon so getting more traffic to our product (quickly) is important.
