Coming from a technical background, how do you shift your mindset to focus on biz opp?

Sometimes people just work better when they focus on one thing and excel at it. You might be better off hiring someone to handle the marketing for you.

If you want to do it yourself... well everyone has an inner salesman. You practice selling everyday when you interact with people and want them to do what you want.

Start reading some marketing books from David Ogilvy, Claude Hopkins, or newer stuff like Ca$hvertising. Learn something and apply your new knowledge. You won't get anywhere without taking action and failure will be your biggest teacher...

So don't be afraid to fail... Good luck.

Here's what happens...

If you have a skill that takes a lot of time/money/energy to master and you share those skills with other people, odds are most will be overwhelmed and just flat out hire you or buy your product that simplifies the niche.

You might be in a niche where you're good at explaining things and help traffic learn to help themselves.

Real example, an appliance repairman that makes Youtube tutorials for DIY people to learn how to fix their own appliances. In this case the repair man sells appliance parts. Trust me, this business (video below) is very successful.

These types of customer comments below are real, I know, I'm one of their customers (video above) with very similar experience.

THIS video saved my pockets a good $600. My boyfriend wanted to get rid of a dryer that is 3 years old because of a power surge. Well, after changing the thermostat, heating element and thermal fuse, my dryer works like brand new!!! Thanks much!!!

i just wanted to thank you for this video. this is by far one of the best how to videos I've ever come across, great pace , soothing and clear narrative, and the low background music was also a fantastic touch . my husband works out of town majority of time and he usually does all the fixings ,but thanks to this video not only am I going to save us $200 (repair man fee) but I'm going to save my husband the hassle so he can relax . Just successfully replaced the element in my dryer. Your video was great: simple, easy-to-follow. Bought the new element from an outlet, plus a 1/4" nut driver for ~ $40 total.

So I did not have to buy a new $400 / $500 dryer ...

My point with these Youtube comments from the video above is this guy/business provides tremendous value for his Youtube traffic.

Wow. Yes I agree with what Yukon said above. Great advice. Was going to say something else but change my mind.

In the example above, the youtuber is sharing his expertise in the skill he is already an expert in.

Youtube is a great place to share your expertise and value that you have to offer the market.

Hi:

It sounds like you are caught up in tactics and not thinking strategically. Thinking strategically will force you to cover sales, marketing, operations, management, supply chain management, etc.

If you feel like you are stuck in technical aspects then perhaps you should write a business plan. It doesn't have to be fancy, it doesn't have to go out to investors.

However, writing a business plan will force you to consider, evaluate, and take action on every aspect of your business.

It could be a simple 5-10 page business plan or you can get elaborate and make it a 20-50 page document. However, after writing one you will look at your business or product from a totally different perspective.

Well, firstly, I think that we all have our own set of specialized skills. If you are running your own business and you dont really know where to start, it is best that your write a business plan so you can understand the ins and outs of your business.

If, for instance, you need someone to market your business, you have two choicesyou can hire a marketer or focus your efforts on learning how to market your business. While the second option provides room for growth, it will take a lot of time and effort. Just remember, you dont have to do it all on your own.
