Why don't you buy websites?

I always see so many people wanting to build websites, do affiliate marketing, etc. But I always wondered why you don't put aside some money and buy a site on Flippa to make money? There are sites that make good money and are for sale.

I mean if you buy one for 1,000 dollars that is making 200 a month for the last 4 months then that is great.

What if you buy 2 or 3 of those? Use the money from those and buy 2 or 3 more?

Why are more people not doing this?

People buy brick and mortar businesses all the time and make money doing that. I see so many trying very hard to start their own site and stuff and make money online but there are tons of ways to do it if you apply some real world business thought to it.

What is your experience with Flipping sites?
I'd love to hear it.
Are those sites bad business deals?

Please share your thoughts as I am interested in this subject.

Because of the capital needed to buy a site. I'm going to guess most people here don't have $5000+ lying around which is what most decent sites on flippa tend to go for. Also they are selling for higher multiples nowadays.

3-4 years ago you could buy a site for around 6-10 times monthly revenue. Now I regularly see sites going for 18+.Overall a good idea, but requires a significant upfront investment and due diligence. Most people here are just starting out.

Unfortunately(at flippa) you cannot rely on those sites and stats that show they are making xyz a month.

3-4 years ago you could buy a site for around 6-10 times monthly revenue. Now I regularly see sites going for 18+
Are you saying sites making only $100 a month are sold for $1800+?
    WOW!

I looked into it, but don't trust it at all. You never know how much advertising money they put in to get the income. And the sites on Flippa making some money are usually not passive. They are either stores where you need to put a lot of work in, or blogs where you need to put work in blogging.

For most of the sites that do look trustworthy, you can see the income and visitor stats steadily in decline.

While I think you could make money with it, it's definitely not a matter of just putting the money in it and moving to an island. When you buy these sites, it will take a lot of work to turn them around and make them profitable.

If it was a sure and easy thing, everyone would do it. :-)

Great answers ya'll. I was just curious. Personally I'm trying to flip a few but wanted to know folks experiences. Truthfully I am trying to flip a few for extra side money so I'd be able to fund a really nice big project that involves 2 media companies. It will be big. I already make money online for a living now but working on things that do more residual and less work.

here are some of the blogs I own now.
Kpopcrazy.com and 10to5Howtomakemoneyonline.com . They are starting out really nice.

It can be hard to judge if the traffic source will remain the same after the sale has been completed, especially if the seller does not disclose that the website is being powered by a PBN, which has become more popular recently.

    and scams also!

Not everyone who sells a website on Flippa is in dire need of money as it is made to seem on the sales page. Most sellers are looking for ways to get rid of their website because it is either making them no money or the amount is decreasing.

This is especially true of affiliate income based websites where affiliates let go of their poorly performing websites so that they can focus on their lucrative ones.

Once you buy it, you better know how to get traffic to that site. If you don't know how to monetize it, you are wasting your money. It seems to be a bit more of a gamble than it appears. I have never done it. Briefly looked into it.

The growth of the selling was due to two types of selling efforts, affiliate relationships and online selling strategies. Our online marketing strategies helped generate thousands of leads every month for our call center and millions of dollars in revenue. I’ve worked with thousands of entrepreneurs across the country to help them build their businesses using similar strategies.
