21 Untapped Traffic Sources

Thought I would share some of my favorite traffic strategies.
Please feel free to add to the list!

1. Submit your Blog to Content Aggregators
like AllTop.com and 9Rules.com.

2. High-Profile Content Syndication - As you probably know, simply
submitting you articles to sites like EzineArticles.com is becoming less and less effective. You can get exponentially more results by zoning on in high-profile content syndication - submitting your articles to the top blogs and websites in your niche. For example, here are just a few top-tier websites that accept article contributions:

http://bleacherreport.com
http://mashable.com/writers/
http://www.momsnetwork.com/submit-articles.shtml
http://www.site-reference.com
http://www.betternetworker.com
http://www.current.com
http://www.favorideas.com/submit-wedding-articles/
http://www.associateprograms.com/authors/register
http://seekingalpha.com/page/submit-an-article
http://www.wisebread.com/guest-post
http://www.dumblittleman.com/2006/08/submit-article-to-dlm.html
http://www.lifehack.org/about/contribute
http://articles.mercola.com/submit/

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

No matter what market you're in, there are very popular websites that you
could be submitting articles to for massive traffic.

3. Guest Blogging - Yes, I realize that most of you have probably already
heard about the power of guest blogging. But how many of you are actually doing it?

4. Trackbacks

5. Blog Commenting - Blog commenting is an extremely powerful strategy
for building traffic and developing relationships with other people in your niche. Click here to find out how one blog comment can bring 230+ unique visitors.

6. Write Tutorials! - Tutorials are a HUGE untapped traffic source online. If you have a website related to graphic design, wordpress, web development, SEO, marketing, or programming, then you can use tutorials
to send thousands of visitors to your website.

This includes sites like:

Instructables.com
Tutorialized.com
Noupe.com
Good-Tutorials.com
Pixel2Life.com
PsLover.com
TutorialKit.com
Tutorial-Index.com

7. Video Responses - This is one of the easiest ways to get hundreds of
extra views on your YouTube videos.

8. Tag Your Videos - If you use the same tags as another related video on YouTube, then you will have a very good chance of appearing in the
related videos in the sidebar of that video, which can send you tons of
extra traffic, especially if it's a popular video.

9. Embed Your Video for Hundreds of Extra Views - You can also embed your video on other sites for hundreds of extra views. This includes sites like WonderHowTo.com, Flixya.com, Uvouch.com, Tagged.com, Vewgle.com, etc...

10. Get More Views on Your EzineArticles by getting in the "Most Viewed" or the "Most Published" section at the end of each article. You can do this by submitting your article to all of the different social bookmarking sites until you are the "most viewed" in your category.

Once your article is placed in the "Most Viewed" section or the "Most
Published" section, it will be placed on every single article within that particular category.

That means extra exposure for your article and more LINK JUICE. The internal linking structure within EzineArticles.com is EXTREMELY powerful
for ranking in Google, giving you a much better chance of ranking for your chosen keyword phrase.

If you want to guarantee your spot in the "Most Viewed" section you can
use StumbleUpon advertising, which is just 5 cents per view. This is one
of the simplest ways to get your article in the "Most Viewed" section.

Plus, by using StumbleUpon, you're also driving lots of targeted traffic to your article and increasing your exposure.

11. Cool Site of The Day - Do you have a cool website? If so, you can
submit it to Cool Site of the Day. If chosen, you will receive thousands
of visitors to your website.

12. Coupons - If your site offers coupons of any kind, you can submit
your site to hundreds of different coupon directories online for
additional exposure and traffic.

For a complete list of coupon sites, go to...

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p4bAsllwd0FlMmPng37LvTA

13. Twitter Traffic

14. Free WSO's for building your list

15. JV Giveways

16. Host your Own JV Giveaways

17. Ad Swaps

18. Use a Contest to Double Your List Size - I'm always surprised at how
few people use this technique.

Clayton Makepeace, one of the smartest marketers online, has used this
technique quite effectively.

This technique allows you to leverage your exisiting list in order to add
thousands of additional subscribers.

19. Amazon Mechanical Turk - Many people do not realize it's potential
marketing power. You can use MTurk to get people to submit your articles
to social bookmarking sites, Stumbles, Diggs, YouTube votes, YouTube
comments, etc...

20. SocialElves - If you've ever wanted to get on the front page of Digg,
SocialElves.com can help you do it. They are one of the first to offer
truly organic marketing campaigns on Digg.com. If you'd like to get more
exposure on your content WITHOUT having to spend months developing power profiles on all the different social media sites, then I would highly
suggest you check out SocialElves.com

21. Buy Existing Websites - I'm always surprised how few people are
buying existing websites online. You can easily buy an untapped website
and quickly turn it into an automatic lead machine for pennies on the
dollar.

This is an excellent thread, must have taken you a while to put together.

I have heard that podcasting is an excellent way of generating traffic, submitting them all to podcast directories etc.

If I could work out how to get the audio to play on my dam wordpress blog, it's soemthing I might look into!

    Excellent list though.

      Hey Clive,

Actually, I don't use EzineArticles. There are so many other high-profile websites and blogs that I can submit my articles to for exponential results that it really doesn't make sense to waste my time with EzineArticles.com.

Plus, once you've built your list up to about 500-1,000 subscribers, then you can start using ad swaps and integration marketing to grow your list exponentially. It's all about leverage and working smart.

Just wanted to clear up a few questions that are being asked:

Ad swaps occur when two marketers swap email promotions. Each person
promotes the OTHER person's squeeze page, allowing you to add
hundreds of subscribers to your list at a time.

Integration marketing is when you partner with other marketers in
your niche and promote your product somewhere inside their sales
funnel. So you could have your product being promoted on their
thank-you page (which is one of the most powerful forms of integration marketing). The thank-you page is one of the most powerful pieces of real estate on your entire website because
that's where people land directly after they purchase your product.

Another form of integration marketing occurs when you offer someone
a bonus for their product. That bonus is then placed in the download area, giving you even more exposure.

      :p

For most of us, this information is invaluable stuff.

I, for one, am very grateful for the time taken to enlighten me on the posibilities that are out there.

As a novice, it is always great to find a very useful source of information about stuff I hadn't known about.

I am eager to learn and appreciate anything that is explained in a simple and easy to understand manner, as Kim's information is.

Of course, as you already know this stuff, it may not help you at all - but it has certainly helped me - and I suspect it has given others some great ideas!

        Great question!

One of the biggest ways that I find potential content syndication points is simply from being immersed in the marketplace. I visit LOTS of different websites within my market and I always take notice of whether they have guest bloggers posting content, whether they accept article contributions, etc... That right there (just being aware when you're visiting other websites in your niche) can help you find LOTS of content syndication opportunities.

I also use a couple Google search queries. Such as:

"your main keyword phrase" + "submit article"

        So you might enter:

        "weight loss" + "submit article"

        Other examples include:

        "Add Articles"
        "Add Content"
        "Submit Article"
        "Guest Post"
        "Guest Blogging Spot"
        "Write for Us"
        "Submit a Guest Post"
        "Become a Guest Blogger"
        "Submit a Guest Article"
        "Guest Post Guidelines"
        "Guest Bloggers Wanted"
        "Submit an Article"

You can also submit content to the Ning networks.
Ning.com contains THOUSANDS of different social networks (based on every topic imaginable). Plus, the best part is each of those networks allows you to submit articles (which are then posted on the front page of the website). Very Powerful!

So you simply search for networks based around your topic that have over 1,000 members and then contribute content there. You can also submit videos as well.

I also use SitesLike - Find and Share Similar Websites to search for potential websites in my market that accept article contributions.

And lastly, I also look for where articles are being republished. So, for example, if I find a popular article on Digg, Delicious, etc... I will go and look at all of their backlinks to see where else they are being published. That's another excellent way to find new content syndication points.

I'd like to hear about your experience with Scribd.com
Scribd is an excellent place to syndicate your content. Basically, you just turn all of your articles into PDF's and then submit them to Scribd. You can do this for free using YouConvertIt.com.

Plus, because Scribd is such a popular authority site, it also ranks extremely well in Google. So you can also use the site to rank for mid-level keyword phrases. Just be sure to put your targeted keyword phrase in the title, description, tags, and sprinkled through the article.

Awesome strategies Kim - love it.

Also found a nice one recently - JV Partner Swaps (many may know it - but hey!)

Similar to List Swaps but works like this:

Let's say you've got 5 JV Partners and each of them has 4 more JV Partners right? So that's a total of 25 potential Partners: your 5 + 4 x 5 = 25. So all you need to do is send a message to each of your JVP's requesting that you all swap JVP's.

You introduce each of your Partners to the other 4. Each of them introduces you to their 5 JVP's and suddenly you have 25 new partners! And even better - if you repeat the process with these new JVP's you can have hundreds of JVP's within a few short days. Now all of a sudden Swapping Lists can increase your own list by thousands in a very short time!

Check my link for 12 more also.

In terms of traffic, I'm just wondering, have you been able to tell what your most productive source of traffic is?

I find that Twitter traffic tends to be the most productive - as in, they order the most press releases and SEO content from me.

However, this probably varies depending on what kind of product or service you are trying to sell.

      Hey Dana,

      Great question!

I've found my best traffic sources to be:

      High-Profile Content Syndication
      Guest Blogging
      Ad Swaps
      Forum Marketing
      Integration Marketing

    Kim, you're a legend!!
    This info is absolute dynamite.
As I think you said earlier in the thread, its important to take the info in context to each niche and go from there. Its pointless just going for the highest ranking site, posting there and expecting a flood of traffic, if its not in your niche.

    Thanks again for the details.

      Hey Mark,

Yes that does work very well. Also, the software directories are very authoritative sites that rank extremely well in Google. So if you have a targeted keyword phrase that you're going after, software directories are an excellent place to get ranked for those particular keywords.

You simply optimize your list for that keyword phrase (by putting it in the title of your software/ebook and in the description and file name.)

I use a permanent 007 Contest but it attracts almost no traffic.
However, I am going to be offering a 42" HD TV maybe a Sony Weqa-KF42WE610 for $2,419 or a Polaroid FLM-4201 within 6 months.
Or do you think a MAC would be better and if so what model?
I can do this because I am an electronic reviewer. I want to get in the
        Frank Kern Mass Control mode.

And I don't think I have enough time, but who would be interested in doing a 12 Days Before Christmas GiveAway as in the Mark Hendricks mode
from Hunteridge? It may take some php or perl programming and I am not
sure I am up to that. I am rusty. Maybe plan for net year and do a super
        list building giveaway?
I would prefer to plan for next year or do a 10 Days of Independence GiveAway starting July 4th? Or come up with a good Holiday date.

I have backlinks to my Squidoo pages and Hubpages. Doesn't help and I haven't done much there. But you could spin an article, put many versions on the FreeTrafficSystem and then have them point to your EzineArticles article.

You will never be a GURU ! ( but don't worry, in the long run you beat them)

You share too much content compared to them

And seriously, this is an awesome post and I ad myself to the large

She is one (a guru) in her own right. The difference is, Kim doesn't loosely term herself as one just to create hype. She doesn't have to because the knowledge she shares clearly illustrates that she knows what she's talking about.

I agree she shares a lot of information but that just goes to show how real she is compared with others.

Most of the stuff I see here (Free) are rehashed/re-written materials but what Kim offers for free, most of the time youd have to pay thousands of dollars for.

I think this also builds her image and goes to show she isn't one of those morally bankrupt internet marketers that unfortunately, even exist on WF. (Well, theyre everywhere, right?)

Personally, from many I've seen, Kim provides great value at zero upfront cost and she actively responds to concerns and queries, further building her rep as a solid coach/ mentor/ internet marketer.

Other people who hang out in the WF, do sell information, but most of the time the info out there leaves you scratching your head.

Sure, they give the basic, content, value, traffic, monetize formula but it's the "HOW TO DO THAT" portion that many of them don't give out. And, to an extent, with all due respect to others, not too many actually address concerns or what not.

Most just whip up an ebook for a quick sale and don't give a hoot about concerns. Their logic is, it's information that doesn't guarantee.

While everything is never 100% fail proof, I do believe that again, the information Kim provides is a ten fold more valuable than a lot of paid garbage you will eventually run into on WF. A great number of sales here are a "hit and run" - they take your money and just run with it.

I could easily whip up an ebook and toss it for a quick buck having the ability to write. However, it is against my moral ethics to try and trick people into buying garbage that is already available if you just look hard enough. Unfortunately, not too many people have the same thoughts and opinions.

The general formula for driving traffic sounds very simple.
          - You need a product to promote
          - You need to provide value and content to a customer
          - You need to drive traffic for monetization

Still, we all know that actually finding success there is harder than it sounds.

I've read many ebooks and spent a significant amount on those stupid garbage, which actually even comes from WF when Kim's information is free and makes more sense.

So, with that said, THANK YOU Kim for providing such accessible, real info t the rest of us.

As someone who has been inside Kim's Super Affiliate Club membership site, I can say that she provides a tremendous amount of value. This post is just icing on the cake. If you want a complete blueprint for a 6 figure business Kim's membership site is the place to find it.

Kim has encouraged me to begin to build a list. This was something outside of my comfort zone but after receiving advice from Kim, I am beginning to take action. I am just starting to implement the methods she has outlined in this post and will report back later as to the success of each method.

However, I know they are going to work. It is exciting to begin a new venture that will eventually turn my small business into a full time income. Thank you Kim.

These methods are pure gold. I use MTURK a lot too, it is a great way to do crowdsourcing. Some of the lesser article marketing sites are great ways to get PR juice. Also, paid directories can feed you traffic as well as pr. There is one surprise that you did not talk up a press release as a way to get both traffic and link juice. My favorite way to get traffic is to go on a radio talk show and talk up my service.

True, ezine doesn't quite cut it anymore because so many are into the whole ezine thing, although it does help to an extent in backlinking (to some degree).

Thanks for the information. Syndication does do wonders in driving traffic.

    Careful here folks,

I know that number 10 "StumbleUpon advertising, which is just 5 cents per view." violates the EZA TOS and they will ban you if you get caught.

"You agree to not purchase or utilize PPC (PayPerClick), PPV (PayPerView) traffic, safelists, or traffic exchanges to artificially inflate your EzineArticles traffic stats. Doing so may result in your account being terminated."

Plus it is just totally black-hat and spammy.

Number 19, I got a message from mturk stating that they forbid this practice. Never read their TOS, so I'm not quoting, but they just canceled my jobs and said to not do it again.

Kim, I'm on your list, and I'm a fan, so not trying to throw mud, but you might want to edit those.

Podcasting has been mentioned here a couple of times but it has a relatively high barrier to entry not technically but because of the "what do I talk about?" problem.
If you have a blog you contribute to regularly, you can use one of two cool and free services Text to Speech (TTS) : Speech Recognition (ASR) : API SDK Online or Create text-to-speech (TTS) podcast from RSS feed for iPod, iPhone, MP3 player and mobile phone to convert your blog post to podcasts. The quality of the synthesized voice is superb.
You also get an RSS feed to your new podcast which you can now syndicate and even get into the itunes directory.
Vitually no extra work over and above posting to your regular blog.

Just goes to show that some understand SEO and Traffic generation and some are just talking BS. I mean when you know where the traffic is and how to get it there is no reason to come on forums such a WF to try to scare people with Google panda V 12.3 or Youtube crackdown or whatever. There's always traffic and there's always hungry buyers, but you need to look at the right place at the right time.

You know...I've been in this WF for nearly 5 glorious years...I don't kiss Allen's or anyone else's ass...less they got it coming.....and I don't even think I've ever had a conversation with Kim Roach......but truth is....she a true Warrior in every sense of the meaning.

        She gives.

It doesn't always lead to some friggin' upsell either.

She gives consistently good information....and more importantly to ME....she actually is in the trenches DOING WHAT SHE TALKS ABOUT NOT JUST WRITING ABOUT IT.

And some of you need to understand the difference between a doer and a poser.....Kim does it.

Is Vinnie ever gonna have the time and patience to compile the information and present it to you peeps like this chick does? Probably not....but I can tell you for sure....KIM ROACH earns her LIVING from what she teaches....not from theory she cranks out like bait waiting for a school carp to grab a hold of.

Get on this chicks list. She's stood the test of time and while her voice is a mix between sexy and annoying sexnoying ......she's as bright as they come for those of you'se who do NOT know.

        peace,

.....and it's still incredibly relevant in today's online world. It's still one of my favorite posts. Turned it into a PDF document and placed it in my "Warrior Posts" folder.

Even if some of the links were no longer working, the principles behind her post will be relevant for decades.

A great article Kim and understandably very popular - nearly 3 years on though I was wondering which of the 21 tips are still highly effective and which are less important now? Any comments or experience to share very welcomed.
    thanks very much :-)

    Hi Kim,

As a matter of fact this is by all means a good post.
I think that you can assemble an ebook on traffic
generation in which to include this material and extend
on it. That's among other relevant pieces of material.

Also you can address the general bases on which
an IMer can choose the optimum traffic generation
    methods that suit their circumstances.

Excellent thread, I never knew you could submit to Mashable and Lifehacker!

Another good traffic source is software submissions: just put together a nice little puzzle and post it to various software directories. Now you want your puzzle to be colorful, well-put together, and related to a popular trend.

    Thanks again,
    Bertrand.
