How Big is Affilliate Marketing?

An IM "guru" just claimed that 95% of new IM'ers start with affiliate marketing. What's your opinion? Is AM really that big?

Newbies see Affiliate Marketing as quick and easy money.

It's what attracts them to Internet Marketing in the first place -- Quick and easy money. So, I wouldn't be surprised if most of them actually do start with Affiliate Marketing. Although, 95% is a bold claim.

You can make more money when you sell more of your stuff. So it makes sense for people to start some sort of an Affiliate Marketing Program. Or to leverage an existing one. For instance, people in the Make Money Online Niche use JVzoo -- which is a huge affiliate platform. Shaunybb above gives you other good examples.

Thanks for the responses guys. Affiliate marketing never attracted me. I've always made my money with my own products and services but now I'm considering targeting IM'ers and thought I would just do a quick test of the AM niche with some PLR.

      1) Why do you people cite the size of the industry as impressive? Even if it *was* a 20B industry...that's ******* tiny for an industry!

      2) A lot of companies are NOT entering AM...they're leaving! Why? Because they realize that it's BS and does little to contribute to their bottom line.

      3) AM is high risk for vendors because of fraud. It's all pipe dreams and unicorns. Get over yourselves.

Sorry i though we were talking about IM and not AM. But a 20 billion $ industry is not exactly a tiny industry...

Can you elaborate why you think so?

I work for a network that hosts offers for various brands and we are doing quite well, more people entering and more brands are picking this route as well. Fraud is an inevitable part of doing business online due to the new brick and mortar card protection schemes, pin and pay, emv etc. but fraud affects both merchants direct and through affiliation so that is not really a reason why to stop. If an affiliate is found to be generating only bad traffic you stop them. It is a huge industry.

Affiliate marketing is a good win win situation, we get to promote products/services we could never get setup, and they get sales brought to them from us affiliates.

We have affiliates actively promoting our digital marketing company and they bring a lot of sales with zero effort on our part - having your own affiliate program on a product/service you create is where you can really leverage the power of affiliates.

But for those starting out in IM, its a very realistic and sensible place to start as you don't need your own product/customer service etc.

Yes affiliate marketing is big. Not only in internet marketing but overall, many companies uses it.

However it isn't easy to start off with affiliate marketing, there's no push button stuff. You gotta work hard, the harder you work the more you'll get out of it.

Or well you can also outsource it but when you do it the results will be much better.

It wouldn't shock me if 95% start with affiliate marketing, but I don't really believe in that.

I myself 6 years back as a "newbie" tried more then just affiliate marketing, I tried everything I could possible think of haha.

Either way, yes affiliate marketing big, and 2, I am sceptical about the 95% claim.

Affiliate marketing is basically the next biggest thing next to selling your own product...

If you don't have a product to sell yourself, you sell someone else's for a commission.

When you sum it up, everyone does affiliate marketing. You recommend a new laptop that was just released to a friend? That's technically a form of affiliate marketing (but you aren't getting paid for that of course).

Affiliate marketing is just a way for people to refer someone else to a product and get paid for doing so... In that aspect... affiliate marketing is possibly one of the most important aspects of any business. It allows businesses to build a 'team' of people who only get paid for the results they deliver. Basically one step below organic word of mouth marketing every company dreams of having.

But if you have enough affiliate marketers talking about you and your products, you will naturally create organic momentum for your product that spreads beyond your influencers (affiliates).

I went a little overboard explaining affiliate marketing in its entirety but It's important to realize the benefits both side get from affiliate marketing and understand how important it really is.

Affiliate marketing is huge. There are training sites like Affilorama that have 300,000 members all interested in becoming successful affiliates.

Wealthy affiliate is another training site. So yeah, there is a huge market for this.

It is a great way to start for newbies. You can focus more on content creation and marketing without getting bogged down with product development.

    HUGE

Great place to start! You don't have to worry about sales pages, product creation and support. Just refer a targeted lead and let the vendor do the rest. As far as the money goes affiliate marketing is really priceless. You can make as much as you want to...

Affiliate marketing is so huge that even if a lot of new marketers come up everyday, it won't be yet be possible to fulfill all the offers and their targets available online.
Thinking about travel alone they say that only 20% of the affiliates are able to earn atleast $1-2k per month.
So the potential can be compared to looking at the universe.
Affiliate marketing is yet stuck to major English speaking countries. Yet the the other markets are just getting started with affiliate marketing. So there is a lot of scope yet and it's endless.

well while lots of people say its a scam,

I talked to a guy who is doing $40,000 per month. And yes, without any of his own products. So its no way a scam. Its about building an audience, and showing them stuff. That is all he does.

Any big wig, will tell you its about building up and audience, and email list, and then helping that list, and plugging programs along the way.

Infact my post above has helped countless people go from broke to make a full time income online.

Affiliate marketing is bigger than any of us can imagine. Unfortunately 99% of people here only focus on trying to market $10 eBooks and stuff.

I found out my old employer gave about $1500 commission on a sale and there are plenty of companies (with real offices and actual employees) making a decent income off the back of this.

    And the niche? Education.
