Picking the wrong niche or a problem in conversion?

Hello friends.

Few years ago I started a blog in a small language based market. The topic (niche) was dating advice, since this was what I was interested in at that time.

Well recently I made a reality check, estimating the conversion and sales % per month and yes although there are some sales, the results were pathetic.

6463 total visits for the website for October (90% organic traffic) and 9 sales (7 of which are new acquired clients) which makes 0.14 % conversion ratio.

Opt in ratio = 62 opt-ins which is 0.91% of all traffic.

I'm embarrassed even saying these numbers. But anyway I can't progress if I deny the reality.

So what in your opinion is causing that and what is best to focus on improving?

From my perspective it falls in either one of 2 categories - either wrong niche for this market, either wrong conversion on the website.

So if its the second - what could be a good strategy for determining what elements in the conversion funnel are to be looked upon and fixed?

Thank you.

Is your blog niche targeted to Bulgaria?

Is so, this is a 2nd tier country. People don't have enough expandable income to pay for dating advice. So the problem is the niche targeting.

But if your blog is targeted to US, or Western Europe (1st tier countries), then you have a problem.

Yes its Bulgaria. However Bulgaria and east Europe in general are considered developing markets so far. There are people here that sell also spiritual advice and stuff like "finding your inner women" and prices for a seminar are like half the average salary. I dont think it is the income the problem. My lowest cost product is 15 local currency which is the price of going to a restaurant for one night.

Dating niche is one of the most profitable niches on the internet. So, your niche is not wrong at all.

Most of the internet ventures fail because they can't get their message across. There could be several reasons you had poor conversion rates:

    1. You didn't know your market well.
    2. Your offer was not impressive. It lacked substance.
    3. Your copy was poor.
    4. Your website layout was ugly.

I can't say anything for sure unless I see your opt-in page or sales page, if any.

Bottom line: Don't blame the niche. Your web presence couldn't grab attention &interest.

    Hope this helps..

    Thanks

HERE is the layout of the website. Typical WP responsive blog.

Right side bar is the opt-in bait and HERE is the page for it.

Copy - as for the sales copy for the books being sold is basically a mixture copied from english sales pages for similar products. I am very good at translating it, but probably market is different then the US culture and I should perhaps write it from scratch.

As for impressiveness of offer: I have bonuses, I have money back guarantee, and all sorts of up sells and discounts.

If I know my market well - men aged 20-40, single, into psychology and personal development. At least this is what I target on social networks.

    you cannot SELL

get some copyrighting eBooks or books and read them. Your conversion on your optin page should be right at 30%. Your email followup sequence should convert around 20%.

You NEED to learn to sell.

Probably. I've read many books on sales and copywriting. Currently reading: "Web copy that sells." by Maria Veloso.

I have the feel that I'm doing everything right as being suggested in the books yet the results are not as expected. So that's why I test everything.

One question thought. Is it possible to have that conversion of opt-ins and at least 1% for sales if I don't show my face doing videos. Put in other words is it possible to sell that only by text?

I don't want to particularly associated here with selling exactly dating advice, but its a good learning experience.

Really today especially online when you know about traffic and converting that traffic you can make money just about anywhere. Id say yeah... anywhere!

What have you done for optimization? That is a phase that nobody speaks about and in our case you can NOT build it and aspect them to come!

We need to look at the numbers and "optimize" to improve them... = SUCCESS

What do you mean more precisely with "optimization". SEO or... ?

In the past years I've done variety of AB test varying from Headline tests, website design, position for the opt-in, upsell sequence and many many more. I keep the dates thats I've done them in a log file.
