Rebuilding from the ground up...

Has anyone here lost it all and had to start over? I've heard so many stories of rich people who went very broke early in their careers and had to make a comeback to success from a position that was extremely bad. Some rich people got lucky early on though, and that played a big role in their confidence level afterwards and how they were able to progress.

I heard of a guy who had an energy sales company here in Toronto, he sold his company to a competitor and signed a 2 year non-competition agreement where he wasn't allowed to found a similar company. Two years later to the day, he created a new energy sales company and built it even faster to be bigger than the first one.

It seems like you can learn incredible lessons in either direction. If you succeed, you learn what works, build your brand, experience success and enjoy the great feeling of knowing you made it. Failure has its own rewards though, you know the dejection of defeat and the incredible pressure of poverty, impending financial doom, and everything that comes with that. You may have gone through a bankruptcy, had to sell off your assets, figure out deals with creditors, and if you have great ambition, you'll take risks again in life and let the fear of being in that position again drive you to work harder than ever.

Now I want to hear from you guys - have any of you had those financial troubles? Maybe you're rebounding right now, maybe you're entering that period and this is a wake-up call, maybe you've been succeeding since day one and everything you touch turns to gold. What will the first chapter of your success story look like?
