Will a Blog on the root rank better/faster than one in a separate directory?

Like the title says, I'm wondering if it makes a difference where you put a blog on your site (as far as ranking and getting indexed)

Will a blog on the root rank faster?

Are there any inherit advantages/disadvantages in having a blog on the root? In a sub directory?

    I don't think so. Many blogs are ranked well if they are in the seperate directory.

    Apart from that, I'd like to keep scripts in their own directory. WP needs .htaccess modifications, so I don't want to manipulate root .htaccess.

    So overall I prefer to keep WP in its own folder.

    If it is in the root directory, the internal pages will get pagerank faster. This helps with the ranking.
