You do not need to reinstall your website over and over again. All you need to do is ask your hosting provider to change your DNS settings.

Once your new domain is registered you should be able to ask the new domain registrar to change the nameservers to your current host (ask your web host for their nameservers), and update DNS settings with your currwnt host to match. Most providers offer these options in their control panels.

You don't need to change anything about your website, all you need to do is changing your DNS server at your hosting and point your new domain to your old hosting. That's all.

I have a different hosting provider and domain name registrar. I don't want to change the hosting plan, I just want to change the domain name registrar. Do I still need to contact my hosting provider now?

Really?? If you are so confused about this then why are you not communicating with your current hosting and new domain registrar. I mean, are you that desperate to get your post count up

If the domain name is changing, yes, you need to tell your hosting provider what the new domain is.

If your domain name is not changing then your hosting provider will not need to take any action.

In either case, your new domain registrar will need to know what your hosting provider's nameservers are.

Can 20 more people please post the same answer? I don't think we've gotten the point across.

I'll start: No, you don't need to reinstall your website. You just need to change your DNS settings.

    OK - next, please!

I still don't understand. Even though my hosting where my Wordpress is hosted is a totally different company and has nothing to do with my registrar shouldn't I still have to reinstall it for no apparent reason?

No, you don't need to reinstall or redo your website. Simply ask your hosting provider to change the DNS settings to the new registrar if you don't know how to do this yourself.

You can check out this article about changing domain registrars.

It's actually very simple to change domain registrars.
What is your current domain name registrar? What registrar do you want now? You can google it. For example: "How to transfer domain name registrar from godaddy to namecheap".

If you are currently with Godaddy, check out this how-to article. I think most registrars have similar steps.

I hope this paints a clearer picture for you.

To change domain name registrars you pay the new registrar and you do not need to install wordpress again and its not affect to
your ranking aswell You must have at least some time left on the domain to transfer it as registrars lock the domain from being transferred when the renewal date is
getting close - so that you then have to renew with them first before being able to go elsewhere.

When you only change your domain registrar than you simply have to edit the DNS of your domain and the existing hosting server address to it.
