Can someone explain to me (a relative newbie) what is meant by white hat and black hat marketing?

    quite simple. Black hat are things that people do that they would never put there name to. Using dishonest means to get people on their squeeze pages and to their list. It is also methods that break the terms and service of the things they are using to get traffic, such as having 50 youtube accounts all with the same video.

    White hat is the exact opposite. Not breaking the terms of service of websites and products. Not using dishonest means to get people to your sites, and not spamming the hell out of people.

    If you could get in trouble for it - like get your account terminated, or get sued, or go to jail - it's black hat. (We sometimes call it "BlueFart" here.)

    If you couldn't, it's white hat.

        It's just a Warrior Forum thing... most of us don't much like black hat methods. I think we may still have the filter that changes it, if you cram the words "black" and "hat" together as one word; here's the test:

        BlueFart

        If that says "BlueFart," the filter's still running.

    Some say the terminology comes from old cowboy westerns where the good guys wore white hats, and the bad guys wore black hats.
