Are Internet marketers the hardtest workers?

It never ceases to amaze me.... so many of my closest Internet marketeting friends working till 3 a.m. 4 a.m. and even till sunrise working on the IM businesses.... I do it every once in a while too when im really hooked on getting something done.

Is there any other group or entity that works harder than us?

Don't think so.... sometimes I wonder if it crosses the line into an addiction - but in many ways I feel like a chronic entrepreneur whether it's online with IM related stuff or offline. I have put in MANY long days going from day job(s) to IM and then repeat.....

Of course I'm typing this at 1AM on a Sunday night/Monday morning......

Can't say I'm the hardest worker you'll ever meet, but I work every day on my business and I've certainly had my fair share of all nighters.

These days though I try to set up my business so the work can ultimately be assigned to someone else while I go out and play.

It's funny... having been to 30+ seminars and talking to countless marketers.. theres so many marketers out there who talk all about outsourcing, hiring people to work directly for them, and living the 4 hour work week so to speak.. yet I see it all the time these same folks still working till the early morning hours only trying to get ahead even more... its like a vicious cycle.

Its a choice. There are many if they choose to could work the 4 hour work week. But choose to work more. When you reach 6 figures, you can stop there, but you will strive for 7 figures, then 8 and the sky your limit.

I think many of them can, but they enjoy the seminars, late nights and the life style and choose not to, but we had to, we have the option to do it.

Yea I'll admit I used to be the same way and it's a difficult pattern to break.

I used to do everything myself, but now as my business grows, it allows me to be less hands on.

When I realized the guys I've been following created businesses where they have time to play video games almost every day, it's a lot easier to plan ahead and let go of certain tasks.

I follow the work once, get paid forever motto.

The most work you will do is starting out in internet marketing. Once you find your way its easy.

So I spend one month to create a product and sales page that in return pays me for years almost on auto pilot.

The more money I make the less I am motivated to work lol.

Now even when I want to launch a new product I nearly outsource the entire project. I strongly believe that if your sales page wont convert with targeted ppc traffic or outsourcing costs more than you will be making... It's not worth your time and move on to something that is.

When its something you love doing, these long hours
most of us marketers do online, don't seem to matter much.

I'd rather spend long hours doing what I love then do
long hours in a regular job that I once had and hated.

If you enjoy it, it is not work!!!!!

Just like any other business in the start, you gotta put in more time and work long hours. Once it is set up, I think IM attend more family events, dont miss things because of work, travel more or do things that are important to them.

Great post! I reckon most marketers do work really hard, as they say the Internet never sleeps.

I've done my fair share of 18 hour days, the worse I ever did was 9am to 9am! Never again. But I confess I am an addict, my usual "Yeah, getting off now, writing an email" normally turns into another two hours lol, even when I am not online doing something else I am constantly checking my iPhone.

Working online can be hard work, the pressure, the demands to keep your competitors at bay, but I can't really compare it to working 12 hour shifts in a fast food joint!

I worked just as hard when I used to work for companies. Spent many weekends and night to get a proposal out the door or a design project completed on tight deadlines.

There are those who are workaholics and those who are not in just about any career.

Plus I still see quite a few marketers who are chasing that "make money in your sleep" dream.

This is just my theory, but....

I doubt Internet Marketers are even close to the hardest working people out there in any way shape or form.

If you take a look around the forum, you see so many posts about managing your time it makes you wonder....

Are IMers staying up until all hours of the morning because we have the WORST TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS on earth?

    I think that's a higher probability. haha.

There are no doubt, a few people out there that work their tails off relentlessly, but as an industry, I'd say that we're among the laziest. That's why we're all here... to make as much doing as little as possible. And look how well it works.... :ugh:

I certainly think there is some truth to this. I know my time management skills could use some work.

On the other hand one of the reasons I stay up until 3 or 4 am in the morning is that when I am working on something I get a burst of energy and do not want to stop. It helps that I am naturally a night owl. Working for someone else certainly didn't agree with me!

Yeah, I'm a night owl as well. I get moving on something and I don't want to stop.

My main problem is that I tend to work like an employee would work, not a business owner. I tend to forget my hourly wage is set by how much screwing off I do.. haha.

Well, if my income depends on how much effort I put in, I would make sure that I work my a** off and work as hard as I could!

And besides, when you realize that how much you want to achive financially is IN YOUR CONTROL (versus having to exchange a certain amount of hours work for a fixed amount of wages), you wouldn't want to stop until you reach your goal, not even for an occassional leak break!

Surely the most resilient. If I've pulled an all-nighter its because I have to. Sometimes you can't stop until a project is done because it would take longer to try to get started again the next day.

Or its because I promised my subscribers something and I have to make sure that it is there before they start clicking on it.

IM doesn't require long hours in itself, unless you choose to pursue time intensive models.

I may burn a lot of hours getting a new project off the ground and making money, but after a week or so it's done, and I coast for a few months until I get another idea.

Over the course of this past summer, I honestly spent more time depositing CB checks then I did actually doing any work.

If I was following a more labor intensive model, I'd outsource as soon as possible - I have no desire to be a slave to even my own business

Man. I quit my job to have the freedom of working for myself and setting my own hours. I have definitely found that by "setting my own hours", I now work at least double the hours that I used to in my day job. I am often on my computer until 4:00 am sorting things out for launches or organizing mailing list letters, etc. I work so many more hours but I still love it. I wouldn't trade it for my old day job in a million years. I know that eventually I will be able to back off and let it run itself. I'm putting in the hours now so that I won't have to in the future.

This really depends on what time they actually start?

When you say 3Am to 4am, that doesn't really mean anything, whereas, a person may wake up at 12pm in the afternoon or even start there day at 3pm in the afternoon.

Now, if you said that there daily work day to achieve the results in their business amounts to a minimum of 10 hours per day, where, they wake at 6 AM & work until 3 or 4am, that's a different story.

But, it's not really clear to me & I'm guessing to many who are interested in how many hours are REALLY, TRULY put into their IM business.

From reading about many "typical days", people talk about
3 or 4 hours per day. Those statements, I never agreed with ever & I love to debunk.

But if someone can provide accurate details, can be seen as more of a legit person in my book.

Well i will agree that those online works very hard. However it is a different type of work. Those online all know about red blurry eyes in the morning and with the headache.

But i worked in Oil refineries for years and was pulling 112 hours a week. Which is why im here online making money. They work you like a dog and that's exactly how your treated. You are a dog, the bottom of the barrel.

So working for myself in my computer chair all day and all night feeling proud of my work and being successful and you are your own boss. To me thats the life!!

However the online business is just like any other business. You will get what you put into it. You stay up every night writing articles and gathering links to your site It will pay off. You an hour a day. Don't complain because your product isnt being sold.

But i will be successful and i hope all of us will be.

I recently read that the Internet is one of the greatest distractions at work. Are we really putting 16+ hours into our online businesses. How great would our businesses be if we did and were, in fact, that productive?

How about working hard to keep focused on our online business efforts, working hard to take action on the ideas and plans we make, working hard to build a business that supports the lifestyle we want, and working hard for ourselves and our families and not a jerk boss or unthankful company!

Now that's hard work that is worth it.

    Time is unforgiving.

    Don't waste your time
    Or time will waste you!

I do it not just for the work, but because I love what I do. It's the
challenge I look for that I can't get at a nine to five job.

Doing what I do allows for unlimited potential and allows me to help many
more people at once than just my employer, and the work I do is just
    sooo much more rejuvenating.

Like tonight, I won't be working those hours. I like to throw on a
movie after a long day. But sometimes, I will get 10 major goals done
in less than 24 hours if I have to

And boy is it worth it

lol My grandmother, whom I live with, told me the other day that I work harder and more hours than anyone she's ever known. I work harder on my own business than I've ever worked at a job, that's for sure. But I think it only makes since to be willing to put in 12 to 14 hour days for your own business that will soley benefit you, rather than wanting to put in that many hours for someone elses business.
