At some point, new media will just become... media. The challenges of knowing how to construct and manage a marketing and sales process within a business is still the same.

At least until someone changes the meaning of a for-profit business (which a lot of people are desperately trying to do in political circles).

I agree with Michael. It will become "media". I just really don't understand how to capitalize on it yet.

You must first define a business model and objectives in order to understand how to use any tool or technique.

Social media is just a means of generating PR, exposure, buzz, etc...

What's your purpose and intent behind using the tool?

Capitalizing on the techniques requires far more than making a facebook or twitter account.

In fact, trying to build a business by starting with social media is like a car manufacturer trying to figure out how to build a plant by starting with a newspaper advertisement.

Because it's new and exciting, it's all the "in thing".

But when the rubber meets the road, it's just another technique to generate leads for a product or service.

    You have that, right?
