Best ways to drive traffic to my active wordpress blog?

Use good quality posts that are rich in keywords you are targeting. I suggest posting your blog to reddit and tumblr as well as Pinning it to Pinterest. If you use Video (Youtube) embedded in your blog it will help you with Google ranking

For my blog I go to other blogs that are in my niche and reply to their blog post. I use my blog link on forum signatures, I submit my blog to directories, My blog post I submit them to my twitter.

One great way to send traffic to a blog is using Facebook. I would suggest to create a FB page and post on it links to your blog posts. You can provide a magnetic title to your FB page post and add the link to your Blog post.

If you are willing to spend some money, you can boost your FB page posts. This is great as your traffic will be very targeted. (if you define a good FB post target though).

Even in news there are certain news that draw more attention than the other news. For e.g celebrity news, politics, sports and controversies in these can pull lot of visitors by posting link to your content on your social media accounts. SEO will also help.

Some themes (like Thrive and Prostyler as examples) do this automatically but there are plug-ins out there if yours doesn't.

Well it sound like your going for organic traffic. Hopefully you have webmaster tools set up so you can see what is happening.

You can do facebook re targeting, you can use solo ads and even re target to those people...

There are several ways that help you to drive quality and targeted traffic on your blog. First one is google if you know SEO then it would more easy to get traffic from google by targeting long tail keywords.

Another way is social media and email out reach would be helpful to you.

WordPress has a very good social media structure, I'd make sure you set up Twitter, Google+ and Facebook accounts and connect them to your WordPress site.

When you make new posts you can then have it post to these platforms to your accounts, over time you will create followers, the key is to keep posting good content that gives value. This isn't an over night traffic boost but is a good start.

This also helps with SEO, Google will monitor these social signals and rank your posts accordingly.

I like several approach's, first is to find the big blogs in your niche and read the posts and then make good comments--not spam--by doing it this way you have a better chance of them "sticking" which can drive traffic back to your blog for a long time to come.

What do you mean by you put content 'daily' from a news site? Are you creating your 'own' content or scraping someone else's?

What does "marketing on social media" mean exactly? I only get a few hits from my facebook pages.....

Facebook ads (and social sharing in general) seems like your best bet.

Content is alway the king when you are blogging.. If you can produce fresh and unique content on a daily basis and focusing on long tail keywords then you'll be fine. Just focus on writing good and quality content for your readers and not for the search engines, they'll follow later.

One of the things I do is make sure I connect my social media accounts to my WordPress website, you can do this by going into your settings and clicking "Social" which then allows you to connect Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social media sites to WordPress.

Not when you create new posts it will auto publish to these sites, you can select which ones it goes too and even change titles. For example, if you want your post to go on twitter you want to make sure you are using correct hashtags to get the best exposure.

I use this on one of my video sites I used to pull Youtube videos, works best with Twitter as if you use the right hashtags you can get decent traffic and also build up a good following.

You are also getting good social signals to your site, this, in turn, will help SEO, you can go one step further and set up a YouTube channel but that depends on if you are into video creation.

Long as you are getting out content of value the traffic will increase, make sure you give your viewers a reason to share, news is easier to share then most things so that will also benefit your site.
