12 Years of internet marketing failure.

I have been attempting to make money online for the best part of 12 years. I have tried loads of stuff and have hardly made a bean. I try something new it bombs, I try some else same result. Is there a system or way of making money online that really works?

I do have a bit of cash left to invest but want to get on the right path.

Internet marketing can be really frustrating and many marketers including myself have had years of struggle. I think that the secret is to stick to one system of making money online and put all your effort into that. I spent a lot of time hopping around from one program to another with limited success.

I would recommend that you focus in on affiliate marketing. You can get up to the minute training on this and generate an income pretty fast. I wish you every success in 2017 and beyond

Yes, and eventually after you have cut your teeth with Aff. Marketing then "graduate" to Product Creation. It works well and takes things to new heights in your Online Business !

I second that. It's tempting (and a little insane) to jump around when you're not banking right away or months later from one system. But you must stick with ONE thing that's already been proven to work. Lots of ideas in here already. Choose one, stick with it and figure it out - get help, buy training on it etc. Fail at it until you get it.

      Best.

      Hi

I have to agree with Mark. The main thing is to choose one method and keep at it until you start getting results

If you have a problem to get traffic, then go and do research on how to get traffic, search this forum and YT and google and you will find lots of great info.

Then when you get the getting traffic system sorted you can start to focus and decide what niche and offers you want to target and then do your research on that.

One tip on what to promote : Try to promote recurring affiliate offers because then all your hard work will start to pay off as you will start building a recurring income for yourself for years to come.

All the best and may you prosper from now on

It took me 7 years to finally change my bad mindset into right mindset, with bad mindset it's impossible to make money.

In these 7 years I haven't build business, but build my experience, knowledge. You should treat these 12 year's like building your mindset, experience and now you should start a real, solid business. Make 2017 year a start of successful business !

That's very sad and I'm sorry to hear this. But I really wonder if you really put in your 100 into this business - not half-hearted work.

So here's my suggestion and the best way forward for you:

Look around for a good coach, this coach can shortcut your success by 80%. Just make sure the coach is doing what you want to do in this space as there are a ton of models to follow in different niche markets.

Secondly, invest in a good funnel that has been proven to bring profits. That is a funnel that brings in say $1.5 or $2 or more for every $1 you put into it. This way you're sure of success.

I would have taken this path years ago if I had good guidance, but then the problem then was that I had little resources to invest into building that funnel. It could be an affiliate funnel or your own product funnel where you have 100% control.

But make sure the funnel is tested and proven to convert with at least one scalable traffic source.

    Best of Luck!

Yes, that is one factor to consider: How dedicated are you in this business?

Well, I'm not here to impose to you what it should be. That question is left for you to answer and contemplate on.

Buddy, I suggest you subscribe to a coaching program that REALLY teaches you how to make money online. There are few good ones, just look for them. Also, the great advantage with coaching programs is it fast-tracks your way to your destination - which is to make money! Just settle on the legit ones though, and coaches who really had their fair shares of great and not-so-great experiences here.

Also, if you want to finally succeed in this business, give your all to it! Not necessarily cash, but your skills, dedication and patience.

I hope this year's gonna be your year Good luck on your endeavors.

Your trying to reinvent the wheel. forget about the money for now and focus on what other successful marketers are doing and do it. Your probably like most who join program after program and the funny part about it is it is all done the same whay. The program does not really matter....

Im sure you have heard a thousand times but find a product that is hot in demand and proven to sell with low refunds and do not do what 99.9% of failures do which is direct link but build yourself a landing page offering some value and begin to build trust.

Not to highjack, but this is exactly what I was doing. I found a product, that according to WSO+ analytics had high conversions with little to no refunds.

I built my own landing pages, I purchased Solo Ads. But I got nothing in return.

The product is being offered by someone on WSO who seems to be well known and is knocking it out of the park.

Granted, I have just started, but I am doing exactly what you said and I'm not getting anything...

Sometimes, it is important for one to carryout due diligence before purchasing solo ads. Is the solo ad list in the thesame niche as the product you are promoting then you also need to check out the reviews of the solo ad provider given by other people who purchased from the provider. These may be part of the reason you did not record any sale

It isn't how long but how good... 10 months of 101% dedication and focus to any online business model produces more results than 10 years of 50% dedication and focus. Every single marketer knows or at least heard about many of the successful online business models like Affiliate Marketing, Blogging & Google Adsense, Dropshipping, eBay, Amazon, Website and Domain Flipping, Lead Generation, JVZoo and so many others but only few put their full attention to it and treating it as their priority numero uno. I've also been to lots of failure, so many time wasted but on the positive side, I've learned a lot.

AdSense + SEO is the most reliable, consistent thing that makes money IMO. The only thing is it takes time, but after you put in the initial work, it's not to make money with it. How hard is it for people to click your ads?

The problem is a lot of people are looking for a solution outside themselves. You need to sharpen your skills.

Learn what motivates people to buy things. That is why it's called internet marketing.

And put in the time. I am talking at least 2-3 hours a day to start.

Just think about the typical job. Most people excel at work because they spend 8 hours a day doing it, year after year.

And most people don't even like what they do. Imagine spending that much time doing something you like on the internet.

You will either get good at it or quit.

Pick one business model that appeals to you, find someone successful that you can model and work at it until you see results.

By work I mean marketing - writing content, placing ads etc. Not checking email, perfecting your web page or refreshing your affiliate stats.

If you don't see results, change your approach but don't change your business model altogether.

Share the action you took here along with your results (positive or negative) and I am sure you will get lots of suggestions on how to improve your business.

In your "spare" time (lunch time, driving, exercising etc.) fill your mind with internet marketing related content. There are tons of awesome podcasts and videos on practically all aspects of internet or affiliate marketing.

Never stop learning, take consistent action and live the lifestyle of a marketer.

If you've been in the IM space for the past 12 years, I bet you already know exactly how to become successful. I'm sure you have a wealth of knowledge, that doesn't seem like a problem for you.

It all comes down to mindset.

Choosing a plan that is proven to work
    Committing to it
Sticking with it - every day
    Not changing paths
    Keeping your focus
Being efficient by checking off things on your to do list based on your plan

Always follow that golden rule of IM:
Targeted Traffic + Converting Offers = Money

If you want a simple plan that has been proven to work time and time again...

Choose a popular evergreen topic (ex: health, wealth, relationships, etc.)
Blog to build a platform (with valuable content people are interested in)
Build a presence on social media (choose 3 places your audience is active)
Offer solutions to their problems (product creation and affiliate marketing via a sales funnel - opt in > autoresponder > front end > upsell > downsell)
Keep building and growing through marketing and building your presence.

This method may not be flashy but it's time tested to work and work very well for lasting long-term success. You can then expand in so many different ways (like physical products, your own coaching, etc.)

But it does take commitment, hard work, and the will to make it no matter what.

That's the hard part for most people.

But if you've made it this far, you definitely have the will. You just have to use that willpower while following the right plan.

It will come together for you once you master following the right plan (follow in the footsteps of someone who is where you want to ultimately be) and master the right mindset.

Committing to choosing just one method is a common hurdle for a lot of marketers, so for now focus on finding a topic, group of people, group of sites, and authority figures you want to be like. Find your dream business and then use your unique personality and abilities to really help others.

Once you begin to focus on helping others it will give you more motivation to progress and more satisfaction as you do.

    Do not give up.

Keep moving forward and progressing by learning from your mistakes and using it as fuel to propel you along your journey.

    (sorry so long!)

I cannot speak for yourself of course, but most internet marketers I know are basically chasing the "perfect" business all the time.

They go like this: "oh, simple directory businesses are so easy to make money with", one month after not making a dime "oh, I heard that you can make easy money building an IG account and selling shoutouts", "oh, dropshipping is the new way to go - count me in!"

Its not the business model that makes you successful, its how you make it work for yourself and how persistent and creative you are in it. There are no "awesome and profitable" models per se. Every model (or every business) is just as good as you make it. And that may imply working months and months or more likely years in one specific field.

If you couldn't make money 12 years ago on the internet you must not be applying yourself very well.

Back then you could of thrown a button that said 'pay me' on a website and made money.

Sounds like a discipline problem and not a method problem.

Find someone to work with you and figure out what kind of problems you have in your approach and be prepared to work on them. Otherwise you may as well quit and start looking for a real job.

You have tried loads of stuff?

So you have your own product created and ready to sell (preferably more than one actually)?

You have an affiliate program set up for your products?

You have squeeze pages giving away a freebie and funnels set up which lead to your paid products?

You have a blog or website that you maintain and consistently update?

You have a social media presence that you actively engage and build?

Only you know the answers to these questions but one thing I hear a LOT is people saying "I have been trying for XX years" bla bla bla .. but when you ask them to show you what they have actually done, they have little or nothing to show.

    Want to make money online?

1st: Quit buying into every bullshit get rich method / training / software that you see. Most of them are nonsense.

2nd: Understand that regardless of your niche you will need something to give away, and preferably something to sell as well.

3rd: Strongly consider running a website and utalizing social media

4th: Realize that this is a JOB, you have to WORK at it. Sure it gets easier after a while, but you better believe you need to work your ass off.

5th: Accept that it takes a while of being consistent (no jumping around from one thing to another hoping to find the 'secret' .. there is no secret)

Have you tried anything outside of MMO niche?

For the past 16+ years I have been promoting PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers.

The reason why is very simple. There is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form in order to make money. Plus, since it's a completely free offer, conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require a sale to be made.

As far as offers go, I favor those that have a make, get or save money benefit to them. This is what has overall worked best and they tend to have the greatest mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience). So the potential to produce high volume exists and cross promoting the offers is fairly easy.

Some of the verticals that I have done extremely well with are: insurance, loans, education, mortgage, debt, credit, assistance, homeowner offers, etc...

The bulk of the offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I run others that pay more and less. However, the payout is not the sole key factor. How well an offer converts is also important, if not more. For example, you could have an offer that only pays $9, but if it is converting at 2X+ of what a $20 offer does, then it will perform on par or even possibly better. You could also have a $90 offer and if it converts poorly, it may not even be worth running.

To generate traffic, I do things differently than most here. I buy fresh /targeted data (email) in that I know what the users are interested in and that a PPL offer exists that matches their interest. So if I'm getting life insurance data then I send a life insurance offer. If I'm getting education data, then I'm sending an education offer., etc... I'm just matching the target to a relevant offer.

I also get rev-share data, which is the same as the above, except I don't have to pay any money upfront for it and I split the revenue generated from sending it with the data providers. I also generate real-time co-reg data that I target specific PPL offers. Lastly, I buy aged/ domain targeted data, but this is more involved and requires additional tools / resources to do profitably.

By acquiring data, I'm building assets that I then own and can market to them over and over at low cost. Compared to what most marketers do, which is to pay for traffic or use some free method in which they often fail to turn a profit or was worth the time implementing.

In case you are wondering, none of this has anything to do with spamming. All the data is what is referred to as third party data. Which the users have all provided permission to receive messages from third parties and is 100% can-spam compliant.

Third party data is always going to be lower quality and not as responsive as a highly targeted opt-in list you develop yourself. However, this is not an issue, because it is also much cheaper and scalable compared to building a list. The key to making it work is to always be segmenting the openers / clickers and removing the unresponsive users. That way you are building smaller, but more response list from the initial data you quire. That way you will eventually be sending less and making more each time you mail. Basically you're converting it from quantity to quality.

One last important note. Don't go buying data blindly. You want to always test a small, but adequate size sample and see how it performs. Then based on your test you will have a much better idea how quickly it will take to get break-even and what it is worth to you. This is where rev-share has an advantage, because you're not paying anything upfront, so all your test are free.

Essentially I'm monetizing data using PPL offers because they offer the path of least resistance to generating conversions and convert the data into cash producing assets.

Obviously there is a far more that goes into it, but it really does work. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, for the most part does 6-7 figures. While that maybe a huge range, much comes down to ones ability to scale, and effectively build/manage the infrastructure required to scale.

    Anyway, something to think about.

Have you tried a combination of online/offline methods? Get a digital product/service to sell from a website, and then contact people using some offline methods and then be willing to talk with them on the phone to get the sale. It will work.

12 years is a long time to not get any results online. I am guessing that you weren't completely active for that full twelve years. Most likely you have tried stuff and stopped then started again but I still don't believe you were consistent for the full twelve years.

Only you would really know that OP.

Success online is a process and requires a plan of action, consistent work, your share of mistakes (it's in the mistakes where you really learn what you did wrong and how to 'correct' it), a 'determined' mindset and perseverance!

I actually made a video last year for the forum but never shared it:

I actually made a video last year for the forum but never shared it:

Here's My 5 Steps for Success Online:

5 Steps to Freedom - Online Success - YouTube
I think you hit it right on the dime when you said "focus on income-producing activities"

These are the things that make you money:

      * creating products
      * creating videos
      * creating blog posts, articles
      * writing emails
      * making websites
      * driving traffic with various methods (facebook, youtube, yahoo answers, forum posts, google alerts, solo ads, etc)

These are the things that DON'T make you money:

      * buying products
      * watching videos
      * reading blogs, reading articles
      * reading emails
      * checking out websites
      * learning about how to drive traffic

Notice a difference between the lists?

One is the CONSUMER level... the other is the PRODUCER level...

All the systems that I've tried worked. Some were better than the others, but they all worked.

It all comes down to you.

For example I sell a coaching program and a lot of time people buy and don't even watch the first video...Of everybody that buys, not a lot of people actually watch all the videos and sometimes I have people sending me e-mails about stuff that I repeated about 50 times in my program...

Look, there are good students and there are bad students. It's the same thing with school...Not everybody has 100% in their exams.

The best students I've had with my program were executing literally everything exactly like I taught them and I've coached a few people that had difficulties making money and as I was analyzing what they did so far, I said to myself WTF is this? This is not what I taught them at ALL.

So I would really ask myself the question: Is internet marketing really for me? In 12 years if everything that you tried was a scam you got REALLY, REALLY unlucky.

You need to ask your self why you are not succeeding, look at deeply into exactly what you might feel is going wrong.

Don't sit there and wonder why no one clicked like your posts in Facebook or get confused why no one is re-tweeting your tweets on Twitter... Find out why! You can't fix the issue if you don't know what it is, you are going to continue down the same path unless you find the missing part of your that is holding your back.

We can learn all the latest and fancy new methods of driving traffic, how to market or selves etc, but if we don't know how to execute them correctly with the right mindset then you will fail.

Be positive though, after 12 years you are still here still looking to succeed!

Many would have given up and gone back to the daily grind working for some one else, you still got desire, you just need to find the right path.

The problem may be that you have "tried" loads of stuff. How hard do you "try". Do you just give it a quick go then move on when you don't see instant results...or do you work at it until you see progress?

I would suggest lack of focus may be what is holding you back. Pick one method i.e. affiliate marketing and copy what others are doing. Experiment and adapt already proven methods to suit your particular circumstances. Most of all "work it until it works". Then, once you see results, you can diversify into other methods of making money online.

I am sure here there are many IM expert, you can question & the Expert will reply on your thread. Or even you can read the existing thread about the IM. Beside these, you can watch the Video. I'm not surprised at all regarding your situation; as they say 97% people fail in digital world, be it blog, IM, MMO, product creation, affiliate marketing, and even technology start-ups with millions of dollars of funding. You are one of those 97%. You started at the right time which is 12 years ago when the competition wasn't that fierce, but you found no success. You can become one of those 3%, if you put the real work as these people did. What I have seen, you need to spend some 10 to 15 thousands of hours of work, learning the craft, honing your skills before you see any real success. Can you do it? Forget the years, count minutes, the hours will be taken care of.

    Hello,

In order make money online you need to discover what fits you the best. After that invest some time (not money) to learn about that and start investing when you feel you can! Don't get demotivated when you fail and make sure not to make same mistake while trying for next time. Life is full of learning from mistakes, not every one can succeed in their first time. Make sure not to repeat mistakes you have done so far.

A small Idea - You can write an ebook on how you failed from past 12 years, give away free or sell it. Make a list of subscribers. Use your list to monetize in many ways.

    Thank you.

  • hi, it's frustrating isn't it? you always feel like it's a case of one step forward and two steps back.

what you need is a mentor, someone who can guide you through the process and give help when you hit a brick wall. rather than trying to start from scratch and come up with your own ideas copy what is already successful; that's how the top marketers do it.

I can recommend nick james and Andrew Reynolds. both are very successful and are down to earth guys who understand the struggles you're facing because they've been there themselves..

don't give up, you can be successful and help is out there. I wish you well!

    Hey.. I get it. It's all mind-set.

Stop chasing money. The latest shiny object. Sit down and ask yourself this. What type of business do you want to create? Chasing money is not a business.

What are you good at? What really interests you? What would you do for free if you had to? Because if you are going to work at something day and night you better damn well like it.

Take a step back brother, and ask yourself what type of business do you want to build? Picture what it looks like 5 years from now - then map the steps you think would get you there.

This is probably not the answer you wanted to hear but it is the answer you need.

The bit of your post I have quoted sums it up really. If you have a profitable niche and a plan, stick with it rather than butterflying about.

After 12 years, you should have an inkling to the way online sales and marketing works. The general dynamics behind it.

Also, during that time, you will have seen many people in your niche become successful...seen what they were doing, how they were positioning themselves, how they were selling.

The only question is..."If they can do it, why not you?"

Hang in there. Remember Winston Churchill's definition of success:
"Going from failure to failure without giving up."

If you've been around for 12 years you must have gained a lot of experience. If nothing else, you know what not to do and that's half the battle. I would recommend sharing some of that experience on the Warrior's Forum on a regular basis.

IM is not an easy path. I admire your stick-to-itiveness. If you lived through the Panda revolution and are still around then my hat goes off to you.

I switched from ecommerce to digital marketing about a year ago. Periscope was all the rage then, just like SEO and EMD were back in the day. Everyone was raving about Periscope and everyone was offering courses and webinars to get involved in this 'new' technology. A year later and you mention Periscope and it's back to being the windshield of a submarine.

You have to nimble and be ready to change with the times. Find some marketing strategies that you're good and master them.

Most importantly, if you have the bucks invest in an ongoing coaching program that teaches and supports you in your efforts.

Am I sorry to hear this. But you right how many articles are there about making money online? Thousands? Millions? Enough? Probably. But there’s a problem. Too many of them are just sales pitches to convince you to sign up for some seminar, webinar, training session or some other way to become an online millionaire.

They really give online money making a bad name. But it is possible to make money online. I mean, the people selling all of those millionaire pitchers are making money, right?

There are legitimate ways to make money online. The problem is that the real ways to make money aren’t “get rich quick” schemes.

Most of them require a lot of work and sometimes a lot of dedication before seeing a return on your time. But if you really want to make money online, work from home or turn an idea into a business, you can do it. You can even earn money with apps if you don’t want to venture all the way to the computer.

I’m going to tell you about all kinds of legitimate ways to make money online. Since we are talking about legitimate jobs, you’ve got to be…well, legitimate. Many of these options are real jobs that require you to put in hours if you want to get paid. They also require real work. Here are some tips for actually getting the job:

Sorry to hear about that, but I'll tell you this. I have seen many people over the years who jump from one program to the next year in year out. Those types will never succeed. Let's look at it this way. One day you're a pilot, the next you're a nurse, and then rocket scientist and then a fireman perhaps, and suddenly you're an actor... all in one lifetime. Is this really even conceivable? Well, why then would you want to do that in Internet marketing?

Solution: find a niche you're actually passionate about and stick with it. Ask yourself this. If you'd gone to medical school to train to become a doctor, what would you do? Go work in a fish n' chip shop?

they sing you sweet nothings about the beautiful life and how much money you make, but then throw you in a system and expect you to know how to build a site, how to get leads, convert sales but never really give you sound advice or guidance on how to do so.
They sell you dreams - because that's what you want to buy. Most of us learned how to do things here and there - and on our own. You can learn how to build a site, get leads, etc on your own. Or you can sit for years waiting to be "shown".

The time to recommend someone who has "the remedy" is after you've succeeded with that remedy.

Are you jumping from business model to business model?

If you are, then that is your problem.

You have to find something that works and be very consistent at it. I don't mean reinvent the wheel here...

...I mean find a product that people are buying already and make it better.

Do your research through forums on that niche that you are selling in, to see what kind of questions people are asking. And if there is no product on that, create it.

Stop buying everything new that comes out and start selling stuff.

Don't get me wrong here...there are tons of products that can really stream-line your business, making it faster and more productive, but most people buy things just because it 's new.

And then they never use it.

If you buy things, put it to the test...until it makes you money!

Don't just try it one time and if it doesn't do anything for you, just leave it for dead!

The main thing you need is knowledge. The power of the mind that will show you how to make money, not shiny objects that promise to do it for you.

YOU NEED TO DO IT! YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW...

Only then you can buy something that can put your business on autopilot.

    Again...don't misunderstand me.

You only need 3 tools that I 'll mention below to get
you going. Everything else is just and incentive to help do it faster.

    1. Website or Blog - A way to deliver content and collect money.
    2. Autoresponder - Either self-hosted or hosting by a company to follow up with your prospects.
    3. A product or service - Something to offer your prospect.

    Summy:

Just make sure you stay consistent with ONE BUSINESS MODEL and keep at it till you start making money. You will learn tons and you will see once you start making money with it you will be able to ramp it up quickly.

    Hope this help!

              • Dear "Internet Marketing Failures"

Here are some ideas that might help flicker your light bulb, if not shine bright:

30 Interesting And Scam Free Ways To Make Money Online

However, just focus on one of these ideas that you find of interest at first and try it out. Then, if necessary, move onto another one of these interests, if the first doesn't work out.

Really Important: Once you find a subject of interest, then LEARN and TRY everything you can on that subject of interest; which you can learn more of here, of course, by doing a search on that subject matter!

                Hope this Helps!

                JMB

NOTE: DO NOT try all of them at once, no matter how exciting or tempting as they may seem, as that is a recipe for failure. Your GOAL here is to be FOCUSED on one Subject Matter and one ONLY at a time.

I definitely hadn't been in this for the amount of years that you have(I hate the fact that people have to invest that much time and get no results it pains me) But I will say with just the short time I've been in it what I see happening is they sing you sweet nothings about the beautiful life and how much money you make, but then throw you in a system and expect you to know how to build a site, how to get leads, convert sales but never really give you sound advice or guidance on how to do so. Everyone are "Guru's" but aren't building an elite team of Guru's. I believe a guy named Dean Holland has a remedy for all of that though.

If you've been doing this for 12 years. Have you considered something else?

Before you venture in again...do you even enjoy the aspects of online marketing or just the allure of "easy money"? In reality, there is a lot of work, strategy, risks, and consistency that is required.

Do you enjoy operating and managing a business along with it's risks and self accountability? Perhaps if you're just looking for the monetary gains, then look into various opportunities like stocks or investment.

One of the biggest problems with internet marketing has been people that jump from program to program. The best thing to do is find the affiliations that have longevity, make a choice and stick to it. Sometimes that is not easy either, because some many programs come and go over nite or get shut down as soon as the membership gets a leg up on the marketing.

The best product is one that you create. That you can market forever.
