$10000 to change my life

by yasser0621 49 replies
Hi.

I'm about to be made redundant from my job after 7 years.

I don't want to go back to the 9.5 job as I've a 8 month old son and would love to spend my time with him while he's young.

I have $10000 to invest in something that will make me $2500/month .. This would be enough to cover costs of living etc.

Me:
I can make websites /graphics
I can learn new things fast
I'm hard working

I'm looking for ideas / pointers .. I don't want to waste money.

I'd love to have income from AdSense etc.. I have an account but it only makes $1-2 a day.

What would you do to try quit the 9/5 and work from home with $10000?

I would be cautious how you spend your money. Something like 90% of people fail at internet marketing within their first 4 months.

For the past 16+ years, I have been promoting PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. The reason why is very simple...there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form for me to make money. Also, they typically convert much higher than offers that require a purchase to be made. It's just much easier to get a user to fill out a short form than take out their credit card and make a purchase.

I favor offers that have make, get or save money benefit to them. These have overall worked best for me and tend to have the greatest mass appeal (of interest to a large general audience). So the potential exists to produce high volume and cross promoting offers is fairly easy.

The bulk of the offers that I promote pay $20-$40 per lead, but I promote others that pay more and less. However, what an offer pays is not the sole key factor. How well an offer converts is also important (if not more). For example, you could have an offer that pays $9 and if it converts at 2X+ of a $20 offer, it will perform about the same or possibly better. At the same time you could have an offer that pays $90 and if it converts poorly, it may not even be worth running.

Some of the verticals that I have done extremely well with are: insurance, education, debt, loans, mortgage, credit, assistance, homeowner offers, etc...

    Something to think about.

Build a list! Create a funnel that converts front end offers then you have a traffic base to promote other products. If all you did was build your list for 6 months you will be ahead of 95% of other marketers out there.

What ever you do not sit there and spend money direct linking to a sales page or spend your time with free traffic to a sales page. Build a list and it is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.

When you say you can make graphics,

Does this include things like e-covers or kindle books covers.

Or things like wordpress headers and things like that.

If so, I would consider selling your services here on the WF forum/or setting up an account with fiver.

    Hope this Helps

Do some self exploration. Think back about all your experiences, all the work you've done and analyze the good and the bad. Imagine 5 years from now what you'd like to be doing with your days if you already had all the money in the world.

Once you have identified some of your passions, your needs, etc... Then build a business plan around that. Connect that which you love, with that which makes money. Find the sweet spot between what you love most, what people pay most for, and what works.

No matter what you choose to do online, there will be fads, there will be algorithm changes, there will be continuous ongoing disruption. Make sure you're on a ride you enjoy, or else when something doesn't go perfect, it can be very frustrating.

Save every dollar you have. Spend all your free time seeking new full time employment. You can begin learning and doing IM in your off-work hours and on weekends. It's how many of us started in this business.

Don't put pressure on yourself to try to find a $2,500/month income stream with $10,000. Buying your way into a career in IM is a bad idea. The money will be gone before you know it and you'll have the added pressure of being broke and without income.

Be wise with your limited resources.

This. If I could "thank" it five times I would!

The quickest way to lose the $10k is to have it need to pay the bills as well as support a new business. I know this from experience and frittered way $20k a couple of years ago doing the same thing.

Also, for my money, start small and at the risk of getting into trouble, try to avoid getting addicted to too many WSOs. It's easy to start/stop a couple of times a month with all the get rich quick ideas floating around the WF!

And lastly, assume it's going to take you at least 2 years to make any decent money, and plan accordingly. I'm sure some people crack it quickly, but from the actual real live marketers that I deal with that have an income I can verify, it's pretty rare. In fact I don't personally know or work with anyone who was able to live off his/her business in less than around 18 months, and every one of them had some kind of work going on the side.

Best of luck in this, if you stick with it and get some wins, it's an awesome ride.

Second that. I think it is a good idea to find a good coach here and start one step a time. Don't just put everything you have and trying to get 2500 per month. It will take time and a lot of loss on the way too. Good Luck!

    Hi there,

As a rule in business, don't put all eggs in one basket- in this sense, your money. 10 grand would be quite a big investment for something, but you can divide it to yield more- even more than the $2500 monthly yield you are looking for!

You can invest a portion of your money in stocks, another portion in building and earning from website/s or apps (if you can think of one), and another portion in a credible, no-nonsense coaching program on Internet marketing or anything you want to know more and earn many from. I mean, there's a lot to explore in the Internet, and you have lots of ways to make your money grow. Just search, search, search, and don't limit yourself to what you know now.

During your free time, you can also do freelance work. It doesn't pay much, but at least it pays the bills just by working 3-4 hours every work weekday.

    Goodluck!

It's much more easier than you think but you need to control your money carefully after investing for the traffic!
Step 1: Choose a potential market
    Step 2: Prepare attractive content
    Step 3: Collect email list
    Step 4: Start selling

Hold on to your $10K - if you are planning to buy info or software. You don't need to spend nearly that much to get started.

There are so many ways to make $2500 you have nothing to worry about as long as you find something that works and follow through.

In my honest opinion the easiest way to make that kind of money quickly is helping local businesses with their marketing.

Outside of that, I would use the money to get good at paid traffic. A skill that will ALWAYS be of value to you.

Find an affiliate funnel that is converting that you can promote - make a free or very low cost product that is a simple entry to the main affiliate product's niche. Don't overthink this product - just some basic knowledge. Send traffic to your optin or sales page for that free/low cost offer. Then send those people to the funnel you are an affiliate for.

Now you are building a list. And as you get better at paid traffic you should be able to make that initial funnel profitable.

You will always have that list to market to as well. Build a relationship with them. Not by giving them free stuff - they will just unsubscribe. Make videos when you promote a product - let them get to know and like you.

It may take some time to get good at paid traffic so be patient. Also be prudent with your money and don't throw it around - track and test everything you do. 10K should be enough to test and get your skills down.

    Val

P.S. A part time job while you are doing this would be a very good idea. Stressed out marketers don't do to well.

    Lots of wisdom shared here.

I agree. Always have a back up plan.

Even the best marketers that are known now have struggled in the past. If you know what you're doing it will still take time.

I'm not saying you can't see success relatively quickly. I don't know you. Everyone has different aptitudes and work ethics.

The word quick however is relative.

In terms of money, I would set a monthly budget for myself. That way you know what you can spend without worrying about going broke.

You can then use it for things like tools and advertising.

Lot of 9-to-5 mentality going around here instead of directly answering to OP's question. Going to 9-to-5 to break out of 9-to-5 is the most counterproductive thing you can do. I would buy an already running Amazon website from Flippa and work on it. Learn SEO, hire a writer, a VA, make a team and hustle till it starts making bigger profit. As time goes on learn to re-invest profits in ads and expand your business for even bigger profit. And one day sell the website for 30 million dollars and retire for good.

Sounds unrealistic? Alright, lets break it down.

    Estimated costs:
Starter Amazon affiliate niche site off Flippa - 1500$ (or build your own for 0.99$)
Cost per written article - 10$
    SEO work - self-taught
VA to hire orders/support/add products - 300$/p month
    Hosting - 10$/p month

If it's so easy then how come not everyone is doing it? Well that's because like the posters after me: they rather make excuses than take action.

    Good luck.

Of course, you've already done this and know that it is a sound income plan for a guy making $1-2 dollars a day online.

Just how does the OP pay the bills, feed his baby and come up with $2,500 a month right now until the time when his $30 million magically appears?

Flippa sites aren't the answer - most are created with very imaginary earnings reported and for the sole purpose of making the seller a little money but rarely does the buyer ever make a dollar from his purchase.

No one's saying that the OP shouldn't pursue his dream of an online IM career. But time after time after time ... newbies come here ready to dive all in to Internet Marketing (as you're suggesting) without any firsthand experience in understanding that it takes time to build a profitable business for almost everyone!

The Op is making $1-2 a day - and to suggest that he's going to be able to suddenly make his $2,500/month requirement with a Flippa purchased site is ridiculous.

Sometimes you put up with the "9-to-5" in order that you eat and pay the bills and fund your new IM business needs until your Internet income can adequately take over.

It sounds cavalier and macho to tell a newbie to turn his back on "9-to5" for the Internet dream. But you know nothing of the OP's situation, his mentality, his work ethic, and his aptitude for solving the IM puzzle.

Your advice is exactly why newbies leave IM in disgust when their quick failed attempts at online money making fail. All of a sudden the dream they've been sold about fast IM riches fizzles into reality.

These are the saddest threads on the forum. Not because how little the OP knows, but because of how little the people supposedly trying to change his life know.

Everyone thinks that what they do is the way to building a fortune, but I don't know of any that have using their own success formula. Then, again - I guess it depends on what your idea of a fortune is. I wouldn't get out of bed for $2500 a month.

My opinion is quite different from many marketers here. I will base mine from my own experience. Firstly, "don't go back to full time employment" or ditch whatever thoughts you have in mind of going back to full time employment, you're already in the right mindset now (thank the company that made you redundant as they've given you this opportunity).

Jobs sucks! With your 8 month old son and full time job, getting quality hours for your home business is a fairy tale, you will never get it I'm telling you that now.. unless your job is just around the corner from your house and it's a happy enough job that you're not being pressured and not getting tired but this kind of job too is a fairy tale. So yes, forget about full time job as this is catastrophic if you've already set yourself to working from home. You will never be happy by just working to pay your bills and not thinking about the career ladder. With your mind set into home business, you will hate your job everyday thus bringing you a daily bad day destroying your performance and sanity because your mind is in the other planet. I also won't suggest part time job, depends on location and nature, it is as good as a full time job that sucks.

If you really need a part time job, I would suggest freelancing thinking that you can build a website, graphics and sort of things like that. You can save a lot of time with freelancing. With a very tight budget, time is the only abundant to you (congratulations, many people are poor of time so don't squander it) but you're still racing against time while your fund lasts so keep your hand tight with your money, don't do any unnecessary expenses and start with home business that has low startup but has the potential of giving you liquid funds in a very short period of time.

Unless you're a super expert, forget about blogging and google adsense/online advertising, website or domain flipping, online affiliate marketing, forget about forex or stock market, forget about investment that takes ages for a nice return, etc (at least for now)... go instead for online business models like eBay or Amazon (look for stuffs that you can sell), drop shipping, digital products that you can sell in Tradebit, e-junkie, etc., or anything that you are able to sell straight away. You can sell any products or your own services to popular eCommerce platforms or service sites like Fiverr. You can also build your own shop but avoid expensive services for now, there are many free tools or free eCommerce platform that you can use the build your shop. You can also create products out of public domain materials - there are truckloads of them in the internet.

There are lots of things that you can do to make money but it needs a lot of effort and topnotch dedication, surely you can't do this if you're under the jail of employment. You won't expect to become an instant millionaire but you're on your way to becoming a full time entrepreneur. If you go back to employment and get inside your comfort zone, your life many years ago will be your life for the many years to come... "The ability to take risks by stepping outside your comfort zone is the primary way by which we grow". Goodluck.

So many question are not being asked.

    To the OP:

Are you the only breadwinner in your home or is there a spouse/partner who also has an income?

Are you the caregiver for your baby or is there a spouse/partner who helps out? Building an online business to profit takes a LOT of time and effort. So does taking care of a young child.

$10k is only 4 months of paying the bills... do you have other savings for backup and support? Four months can go very fast.

What would you do to try quit the 9/5 and work from home with $10000?
Sounds as if you still have your job for right now. If it were me I'd look for another job UNTIL I also had 8 months to a year of monthly expenses saved up. Alternatively, I'd look for a part time job that would come at least close to covering my monthly expenditures..and maybe reduce the expenses to match the income.

You don't need a fortune - you need $2500 minimum per month. Are jobs in your area (full or part time) easy to find? If in 4 months you've spent the $10k and are not producing much income per month....what happens?

There are ways to make this work for you - but a wild jump off a cliff ain't it, in my opinion.

A part time job that paid half of your living expenses would give you some breathing room....if you can write well you can create that income in a couple months by freelancing on a reputable freelance site (not
Fiverr but that's my opinion) but it will take time and effort. I know it can be done - I did it. The beauty of establishing a "service" is you have something you can use to generate extra income rather quickly when you need it.

Your problem is not whether or not to have a "job" - it's how to create enough income to guarantee safety for your child while also leaving time for you to build a new business online.

Before leaving your job make sure you're counting the cost of any benefits you have -- especially health insurance for you and your family. Many people forget this when adding up the cost of their monthly expenses.

Second, ignore all the private messages you're going to get telling you how they can help you make a full-time income online for the low cost of $10,000.

Don't get me wrong OP...I love IM.

    But honestly...

Trying to make money online to not have to go back to your job (without an income coming in) makes you 'feel' desperate.

And putting out desperate energy to the marketplace will only 'attract' the like.

You may just be better off finding another job for now (to keep the income coming in) and if you still want to FREE Yourself and spend more time with your child, learn IM in your part time.

    Just my two cents.

You have two things that if you put into proper use, you won't have to worry again which are:

    i. Your graphic skills
    ii. AdSense site

    1. On the graphics, you can easily make some extra cash by rendering your services on freelance sites. There are many of them worth looking into and it pays to sign up for 3 to 5 freelance sites and setup an irresistible profile. You never can tell which of the sites will pick up first. Once you create an account, try to monitor and log into multiple times a day to ensure you catch in on prospective clients wanting to know more about your service. As a new seller, you will need to ask for reviews from your buyers in order to easily established you as a trusted seller.

    2. On the AdSense, it's something I have been doing for quite a while and it's worth a trial. Once you setup your site properly and build your traffic, you can easily make between $10 to $30 monthly..

I think where most people fail on AdSense are the niche, traffic and monetised ads for better CTR.

Will like to take a look at your site and see how I can help.

Also, its not a good idea to invest your money online as you can lose it due to inexperience and other factors.

It also pays try and get a supportive job that is stress free to help settle some of your bills.

    Good luck..

    Where is the OP?

Started this thread and logged out a couple minutes later...and hasn't been back since (or at least has not logged in) or participated in the discussion he/she started.

    Doesn't bode well for success....

I would be very cautious about paying someone (e.g., mentor) to "teach" you how to make $2,500/month. If you are looking for a quick start, it may be more prudent to use your investment in one or more of the following ways:
    • Purchase a site already making money and expand it
    • Create something new and use your investment to drive traffic to your offer
    • Find customers (web design, logos, social media, etc.) and use your money to pay outsourced service providers to do the work
    • Purchase a large quantity of a physical product for resale
    • Offline marketing in your area

Well my humble opinion is either selling websites to offline business at $1000 POP or I would start an ebay budiness. The website business takes talking to people in email and on the phone but it takes less to make what you want to make.

    1. Find a specialize field - example be expert in affiliate marketing or solo ads or domain flipping or cpa or whatever that you want to specialize in.

I seen too many jack of all trades master of none and failed which happen to me in the pass.

    2. Invest your money in a specialize field coach to teach you how to make money in that field. But please make sure do your research on the coach first before paying that person. They are alot BS coach who didn't earn that money yet they claiming how much they earn per month and blah blah blah...

    Wish you all the best!

Save your $10K and go over to the freelance sites and look for freelance web development work. There is always a demand for PHP developers, people who can do HTML / CSS , Graphics Designers etc.. I did this before I got into IM for a long time and made around $60K a year with it.

Start with Affiliate marketing. When done right, affiliate marketing can give you the opportunity to make a full time income running from home so that you can stay longer time with your loved SON.

Also focus on building your own branding and build your email list for long-run business. The money is in the list and if you can invest in building targeted list of subscribers in MMO/IM niche market, surely you will enjoy some great results.

    All my best,

    Hi yasser0621,

You seem to have some online marketing skills and the approach that could contribute to your reaching your financial goals.

The BIG Warning however, is that online marketing is like a field littered with landmines. You have to pick your way carefully or you'll get WIPED Out.

    Ideas / pointers?

    1. Do some research on online training programs and online marketing systems BUT exercise Due Diligence as you do the research.

    2. Decide whether it's better to start with an online job first. That is, selling your website and graphics skills via platforms like fiverr or elance. This should give you a more reliable source of income than the risk of an online marketing business.

    3. For an online marketing investment, when you decide on an investment opportunity, develop a business plan over a 12 month period. Cater for paid and non-pay promotion in your business plan. Identify how you will cover basic costs like hosting and email marketing services and depending on the product, management fees for 12 months.

before you do anything, you need to have a very clear idea of what you're great at, and what you suck at!

especially if you want to do this without hiring external help (VAs/outsourcers)

in that case you have to pick a model that suits YOUR personality, your way of doing things, your style of providing value.

'doing IM' is basically 'being self-employed' - and if you choose to wear all the hats (which I guess almost all of us did to begin with), you'll quickly figure out that some of those hats have the word 'obstacle' written on them in HUGE letters.

and if you happen to pick a model just because some guru made some overhyped promise and even showed you proof that it worked for THEM ... well, it's still a hat with 'obstacle' on it (at least for you)
