Would you advertise on online radio?

I always see banner ads or hear ads on online radio and wondered if they work, and if anyone has used them who may be able to give me feedback.

I will appreciate any answers.

Thanks.

I've always thought about this and then wondered if its more for brand awareness than selling products.

When I've got pricing it always seems to be crazy high.

I think it's good for both, brand awareness and lead generation, now, when you include lead generation, as such, it means you can make sales via the funnel if your funnel is good enough.

Quite right, it has to have a listenership in my opinion too, as for demographics, once you have a listenership then it will be easier to look into demographics specifics to fit one's offer.

If it fits my demographics and niche, I'd do a test buy

If it works, I'll scale up.... quickly

Well, it should fit any demographic really wouldn't you think, people from all walks of life do listen to different shows on radio as they normally cover quite a wide range of topics. These appeal to different age groups and genres if you like, and given it's online, it's a worldwide audience?

lol, that doesn't sound very good, I think there should be some flexibility. A free trial always work wonders, I think they are ignorant to that fact.

If you hear the same radio ads being used month after month... they obviously are working for someone. Demographics is the key to analyze (cost & listenership as well obviously). We used to own a women's clothing store for 5-6 years & a tanning salon last century. Most of our ad budget we used on radio.

Cost of ads is always negotiable & we never payed the list prices. Another thing to realize is their overnight ad spots are much cheaper which also is not a crazy time for "make money" or "start a business" advertisements. I think you will notice that if you pay attention.

I'd imagine biz-type service ads would work better on talk radio stations as those are the type ads you frequently hear.

Credibility seems to build up the more often people hear your ad so don't just buy a handful of ads. Also make sure the ad is professionally done or you are just throwing money away.

I think you are right, it does intrigue me when I listen to online radio and I hear these ads and see banners on platforms like TuneIn Radio, Apart from that, I think it's a new trend as people tend to have access to the stations anywhere anytime. Online radio seems the way to go.

It can be credible too, particularly with repeat advertising and not just a handful as you say. I think it's a strategy worth considering.

Would ya recommend anything other than getting a professional voice over ?

IE write the script myself and have it voiced by someone who sounds good?

DJs at the radio stations often will do the radio ads for you. Yeah you can write the script yourself but also listen to their advice.

A good ad with good voice over always go a long way, if DJ's can do voice over for you and they are good I think that will be nice.

Well, there you go ChrisBa, that's the beauty of WF, you get an advantage most people don't, you can test drive your idea and see if it's worth it before spending. Now this gives you something to think about not so? It's another not so often spoken about channel as it seems.

Pretty much I'm at the start of promotion and I think there are a lot of free things and hard work I should be doing before putting this kinda advertising in place.

Wow thanks to all of you guys, I think this was fantastic feedback. Now another question. If offered a slot to have a talk show where you share your knowledge and help create an audience for them, do you think it's fair for the online radio station to charge you for doing that, or should it be a win win JV as you both are bringing something on the table?

  • Pay per inquiry / pay per call campaigns in relevant programs of traditional local radio stations where they track inbound calls using forwarding numbers that they dedicate to each advertiser generally work across our target local markets (persons with disabilities, especially blind and visually impaired job seekers) for our job offers ...

I think the same concept could possibly work across online radio networks, and especially in mobile radio apps; and

Of course, the key thing there has always been to place your PPL (pay per lead) ads (or any suitable type of ad for that matter) in speicific, highly relevant programs across significant publisher networks that are regularly viewed by your ideal customers ...

What I'm saying is if I find online radio publishers and mobile radio apps with pay per inquiry or pay per call advertising offers, and if they have regular viewers who are mostly my ideal customers or a majority could most likely be interested in our current offers, then:

Yes, we'd run campaigns for a month or so to test it out. This answers your question in your thread title; and

To answer your question in the body of your OP regarding the potential effectiveness of online / mobile radio ads -- I'm saying that since our pay per inquiry / pay per call ad campaigns in specific niche-relevant programs across traditional local radio networks are generally working well, then I'd speculate that it would also most likely work across online and mobile radio networks (nothing else to do at this point but run some campaigns as a test). However:

What I'm also saying is that the point isn't the method. It's the bunch of factors regarding targeting, ad execution and placement and so on that can make or break your campaigns ...
