Homepage decision...Products or Blog

Hi Warriors,

I am an education expert with over 700 articles and many TV and radio appearances.

I want to create a site whereby I sell my own educational workbooks as well as affiliate products (via. Amazon and other sites).

Here is my dilemma...

I like sites like Thisiswhyimbroke.com whereby there are products on the homepage and users simply click and are taken to the product site.

I also like sites like authoritynutrition.com whereby they have a blog that shows their expertise via. articles on the homepage.

I don't know if I want to have a blog with a store in the menu or a product page with a blog in the menu.

Any thoughts?

    Yes, it's simple . . .

Create your web site with two home pages, one with your blog showing and the other with products showing.

Rotate the home pages during your testing period and see which one converts the best. You will have to decide if your purpose for the home page is to generate opt-ins or sell products. Once you have decided on a purpose, it will be easy to see which version of your home page meets that purpose the best.

Don't change anything else about your site during the test. Drive the same amount of traffic from the same sources to each home page and make sure you test a valid sample size. You will learn which home page your market prefers. Remember, this is not about you - you're trying to see what your audience wants.

    Good luck,

Dependes on your priorities: If your goal is to make sales, products on the homepage make sense. If your goal is to get more blog readers, you can use the blog page as the homepage.

I personally prefer to use the homepage for sales or signups, and not for the blog. But that's because my most important goal is always conversions and monetisation.

      Steve,

Brilliant! Definitely a good idea to test them out.

Verdatti, I agree. I think the best way to make money is to make she shortest path possible. With a blog, I will attract visitors, but I still need to convert. With products on the homepage, it's one simple step to the affiliate site.

The shortest path between two points is a straight line.

Blog, but with the emphasis on
    getting optins. Plaster your optin
box all over the blog and make a
point of asking them to sign up.
