Good, Bad or Wrong Marketing Tactics? Would you do this? Pros? & Cons?

Hi Warriors,

I'm multi tasking at the moment.(Aren't we all?)

In the background I hear an Emergency Warning on the Television.
(You know the sound, Arrrr Arrrr Arrrr)

It turned out to be a commercial for Arby's restaurant.
(a fast food place that serves Roast Beef Sandwiches)

Was that right for the company to use an Emergency Signal to grab
viewers attention?

I mean, If everyone starts doing this won't it cause people to stop paying
attention to the warnings?

How far will people go to earn money?

Hope all the above made sense, I am in a webinar at the moment and
wanted to post this before my next speech.

Have a Great Day!
Michael

That sounds like a pretty desperate way to get peoples attention. It's stupid really. If they can't think of other ways to get people to notice their ad then they really shouldn't even bother.

      Adam,
My first thought before I posted this thread was to make the Title,
      Emergency - Read This Now!

But then I felt that wasn't right!

      Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm surprised they were even able to clear a spot like that for air.

I can only presume that it was distinctively different sounding, though evocative of the official Emergency Broadcast tone.

I written spots with an "Attention" bleep at the top, but it had no resemblance to an "official" emergency tone... just annoying ; )

      Hi Brian,

I really don't believe the tone was different.

It takes a lot to get me distracted and that sound will do it every time
      after IKE passed through here!

I think they will catch some flak from it but who knows?

      Have a Great Day/Night!

As someone who has tried a number of borderline marketing strategies, I would probably avoid resorting to using emergency sirens lol.

You DID watch the commercial and we are now here discussing Arby's. I'm sure many other people stopped to watch the commercial so I bet they are happy with the ad. Whatever flak they catch it will probably be worth it from an advertising perspective.

But yeah...personal opinion, don't use emergency sounds to sell stuff

well it grabbed your attention, it got you talking about arby's to your friends so I would say it was pretty successful whether right or wrong isn't that the point of marketing

and on top of that I'm "thinking Arby's now"
