Best affiliate link format for pre-sell pages

You have created your pre-sell landing pages to sell affiliate products.

Now my question is what is your best format (for affiliate links) to direct your visitors to the merchant's site? The one that has the best click through rate (CTR).

Is it a simple link such as "Click here to visit official ABC site?"

Or a leaderboard banner at the end of the pre-sell article?

Or you sprinkle your links throughout the article?

Or just a banner on the sidebar with no link in the content?

I have a health/weight loss site and I notice that the CTR is very low. Appreciate if you could share what works best for you so that I can improve on what I have.

Thank you.

What I have been taught is to have people opt in and from there they are redirected to a "thank you" page telling them who I am and a little bit more about the product being promoted. I place links in the thank you page that are linked to the sales page of the product I am promoting.

This sounds like a solid business plan. Tease them on the landing page, offer the answer on the "other side". Then give it to them. Meanwhile, you setup an autoresponder to continue the sell.

A good way to test which method works best is using Sign Up for OpenX Hosted! | OpenX. You can setup text and image ads and track impressions and clicks.

In my experience sidebar ads and banners didnt get a very high clickthru. What worked best for me was 2-3 links sprinkled within the natural text, and a call to action at some point. eg: "Click Here To Learn Exactly How To Hyperlink Properly!"
