What is best way to monetize this?

I'm making a Web site that I expect to get quite a bit of traffic from my local town. It will pretty much be all demographics, but strictly local. I hope to eventually get local merchants to advertise there, but for now I am going to put my own ads. What do you think is the best way to monetize a site for the general population?

    If your traffic is substantial try Google Adsense. Getting local merchants to advertise there is also a good idea, but first you need the traffic.

    Eventually if you prove you are getting traffic it can be a small 'yellow pages' type site, wherein the local businesses can pay you a subscription to have their business listed up there. But that is probably down the track. At the moment the easiest would be adsense.
