What's with all the Sweeping Generalisations?

Hey Everyone,

I was just looking through the first page of the forum and noticed the number of post titles that contain amazingly sweeping generalisations. E.g:

  • Fact - Low ticket products are easier to sell
  • Why do a Majority of Affiliate Sites Look Ugly
  • Affiliate Marketing is dead

Now, I understand that making these types of statements will mean that more people will interact with the post, but am I the only one that kind of cringes when I see this?

I know that the posters of these types of post just want to get a reaction and start a conversation, but surely there are ways of doing it without making ridiculously sweeping statements that fall down at the merest input of scrutiny.

Should we instead be posting about real issues or talking about changes in the industry without having to get attention through posting clickbait titles?

You should go spend a little time reading the suggestion forum. Members for years have been trying to get the quality of discussion up a few notches. To no avail

In the newspaper business the people who write the headlines are not the people who write the article. The headline is written specially to grab attention and to get a reader to start reading the article.

It is the exact same situation with online posts, articles and ads. I also find it rather annoying but it seems to be something we have to live with as there are so many content producers trying to get the attention of the short attention span public

There are some people who answer every thread no matter how stupid or monotonous.... (Not pointing fingers)

Open Forum yes but does that mean we have to endure questions an 8 year old can answer many of them asked 1000 times before?

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Well shit, If nobody counters the claim then you'll have 20 other threads from confused noobs starting up additional same subject threads asking how to fix the problem.

I think you're reading too much into the motivation of why people do this. My guess is (and no, I don't have any credible data on it), that most of these "generalization" titles and posts come from people who really don't know better and don't think much about what they're writing.

Often, because the poster experiences something himself, he generalizes that it must be true for everyone else.

The best example I can think of is the "_______________ is dead!" title and post. This forum has seen it all many times ...

    Article marketing is dead ...
    Affiliate marketing is dead ...
    Ebooks are dead ...
    Email marketing is dead ...
    Press releases are dead ...
    Desktop computers are dead ...
and on and on and on.

Maybe the person writing the post isn't having any success with ____________ ... so that means it's dead for everyone.

People that post this nonsense are not the members you want to follow or take advice from.

Does being a moron actually qualify as some type of motivation? Just wonderin' out loud.

OK What about this as the thread title: "Article Marketing is somewhat harder?".
