Check FB for fan pages and groups etc, then check out their websites. You may find alternatives to WP sites that you never thought of.

    Just pick a theme already.

    The dog niche is irrelevant.

What? And not have a reason to not actually take action. Ludicrous!

      Spot on.

Too many people, especially newbies, get the idea that they need to find the perfect theme before they get started. What makes it worse is that they focus on minutia like images.

Pick a theme (I'm partial to the WP default themes) and do your own customization. Change out the default images for images relevant to your topic - in this case, chow chow dogs.

      Get started.

Once you've been at it for awhile, look for functionality that you may want to add. If you change themes, do it for functionality, not images or shiny widgets that look cool.

I remember back when the Internet opened up commercially. There was an ad running on TV showing a business trying to pick a web package. One bidder keyed on design minutia, touting a flaming headline and a spinning logo (anyone else remember the pogo-sticking exclamation point?) while the other talked about things like speed, cross-browser compatibility (a huge issue back then) and other meaningful things.

Don't pick a theme for a spinning logo. Pick one that delivers the functionality you need, and "make it your own" by tweaking the CSS, images, etc. (whether you DIY or hire someone).

Whilst I agree any theme will do, I think it's important to pick a theme that will convert and has a user-friendly layout.

I think a lot of Wordpress themes could work. Do you have a link to another site you like the design of for reference? Have you considered using Bootstrap instead?

I don't have anything in mind that I've seen, most importantly it will need a decent header to showcase a chow chow.

Are you just getting started? Or got an existing site already & trying to modify it?

If you are jst getting started, stop spending time on Theme, start spending time on content.

Look for any theme that can get u started. This will eat up your quality time especially if you are jst beginning.

But if you really want to look out for a theme, check out elegant themes, theme forest. You may find some good ones there.

I'm just getting started, I'm not too fussy on the theme as long as the layout isn't too clunky as some wordpress blogs seem to be.

    I recommend MyThemeShop.com

    https://mythemeshop.com/

Their premium themes are topnotch and they have 20+ free themes you can get started with.

Just pick one and start writing your content like the dinosaurs here all subtlety screaming at you to do.

There know what they're talking about

    Good luck

    Back to my original advice.

Find a theme that functions well (the WP Twenty Seventeen default theme looks good and it's free), then spend $5 on Fiverr to get someone to create the header for you.

Now you have something unique, as opposed to looking the same as everyone else who picked their theme based on the header image.

I'd be more concerned with the content you offer visitors. That will be much more important to them than the look of your site.

You can use wpslug.com to search for wordpress blogs, just make a search for e.g "dog training" within quotes or any other keyword to find wordpress blogs withing that niche. This way you can see what others are using.

I built a site once just using the 2012 theme that comes stock with Wordpress. I just went to youtube to learn how to customize it and off I went.
