Buying .com.au domain when .com is taken?

Hi i'm looking to buy a .com.au domain which is available but the .com domain is taken and has a website on it.

I was wondering if there is any risk of potential legal issues of the .com company even though it's registered in another country?

Is there anything you can check e.g. trademark, or anything to ensure no potential issues.

Cheers.

Yes... there's a good chance the company could force you to turn the domain over.

What are you trying to do with it?

You can check US trademarks at

    https://www.uspto.gov/trademark

I expect other countries have similar databases but...

Many countries have agreements in place to honor trademarks internationally plus large companies register trademarks in multiple countries.

In addition: "The .au domain extension is a country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) which is restricted to use by individuals, organisations, or companies registered and/or residing in Australia. ..."
