Content for affiliate sites - DIY or outsourced?

Hi there,

I'm trying to do some research on how most affiliate marketers populate their sites with content. Do you write it yourself or do you outsource?

If you outsource, where do you generally get it from and what kind of prices do you pay?

Thanks!

I create most of my own content. If I do outsource my content creation I buy articles from a site called iNeedArticles.com

Same question as I asked PP really. Do you get the quality/conversion from content mills usually?

IMO I would start by writing it yourself. Content is one of the most important parts of making money online, if you just hand it over to someone else without learning more about it first, I don't expect you will do well.

If you outsource it, you need to be very clear with what you want. You can't just tell someone to write you content to make money.

Sorry, my question is more research as to what other affiliates do (although I completely agree learning and writing your own stuff first is the way to go). Full disclosure: I own a content company and a handful of affiliate sites to boot. I wanted to know whether affiliate site content is something people outsource often and if people actually pay for quality or go down the cheaper is better route!

    Write by yourself.

If u start a niche you need to know something about, right?

    So start writing.

Occasionally you can hire a writer, but check that it's a good one, in UpWork as an example.

    Unfornately, good writers ARENT cheaper.

What would you say is a good price for a good writer?

I do a fair share of writing and outsourcing. I have a couple of writers writing for my websites. I just check their work to make sure they are of high quality, and kinda the same with my writing style.

I feel much comfortable if I write articles myself. Aside from comfort, you know best the content quality you want for your websites, right? And sometimes, the truth is, you're the only one willing to keep it.

I haven't had much luck with outsourcing content creation, but I am somewhat cheap and picky. I found myself having to rewrite articles I bought for $5ish, which kind of defeats the purpose.
I decided instead to write my own content, but I think many people would instead pay a bit more for guaranteed quality content. I say guaranteed because paying more doesn't always yield better results.

I usually write it by my self. However in some cases with difficult content I will outsource because I'm not good in English and it's not my native language.

    I write my own content.

However, I do use fiver for things like ebook covers, blog headers, and avatars, as I could spend all year trying to do those things and I am sure they would look terrible.

    Hope this Helps.

Thanks everyone for your replies! As mentioned above this is more market research for my own content writing company, but it's interesting to see how many people go down the route of content mills etc. Prices seem to vary quite a lot too!

Again, thanks for all your help, it has been really useful!

I do a combination. When I "outsource" I buy PLR stuff with the rights to edit. So instead of starting from scratch I just refine their work and make it unique to me. I really don't trust anyone else to completely outsource...

That's really interesting - how much do you usually spend on PLR articles (say for 100 or whatever) and then how long do they take you to edit/make unique?

Is 3 cents a word really considered high? I can't imagine paying someone $30 for a high-quality 1000 word article. How can he possibly make a living doing that? How long do you expect him to spend on it? When I write a decent 1000 word article for my site I'm spending about 5 hours on it with all the proofreading and research.

That's what I'm debating. What I'm going to do is write a really good "$$ article" that I will advertise, and then outsource the rest that I will use for fluff on the website

I usually write articles myself. However occasionally I will hire writers and the best place to hire writers is hirewriters and contentmart. These two sites are very good resources to hire quality writers.
