Blog or landing page for social traffic?

I'm trying to make a decision about where I should send the traffic I get from Pinterest etc.

I am selling a weight loss affiliate product, with this product I have made quite a bit from in the past, but that was only from direct linking, from comments and other short term traffic driving methods.

But, now I want something that is long term and is not seen as spammy in any way.

I have quite a few followers on Pinterest, and I'm driving a pretty good amount of traffic daily to a landing page, but I don't get sales very often.

So, what should I go with some sort of informational blog? Or split test landing pages?

I was thinking that maybe people from Pinterest might not like arriving at a landing page when they click through the pin, and might prefer a article instead.

I'm just not too sure.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I wouldn't get to caught up in one traffic generation strategy like Pinterest. First start by studying ONE audience and finding out their needs, wants, pain points, etc. Only after that do you start crafting an offer to present to them and then figure out how to reach them which may or may not include Pinterest.

The main thing that I'm stuck on is how to structure a blog site, how to optimize for conversions and how to actually present an offer. Any suggestions?

And can I use landing pages instead of a blog with Pinterest? I'm much more comfortable with landing pages.

Your blog structure should be in such a way, it will not only talk about the product, it should show the general information as well.Create your blog and stay updated.

If you want to traffic on your blog or a particular landing page the you must fix some on page issue from blog or landing page

Title tag should be attractive, use h1 tag only one time and use subheadings
user proper meta tag, tag etc.

I always think that a landing page will get the most traffic. As it is just direct and to the point. More chance of converting to a sale.

Ask yourself, if I'm clicking a link from your Pinterest board, what's the next logical step?

As a user, what am I trying to accomplish by clicking the link?

Make a list of possible answers, then start testing possible 'next steps'.

Every link and landing page (and a page on a blog is still a 'landing page') should help the user to the next step in the buyer's journey.

You mentioned a weight loss product, so let's use a nutritional supplement as the product.

    One possible path might be:

Pinterest board > Article-style landing page highlighting an ingredient > aff link to product

    Another might be:

Pinterest > Opt-in page for email mini-course > Autoresponder sequence educating on the supplement > link to recommended source

Each stage logically follows from the previous one.

As someone who personally uses Pinterest a lot and works with a lot of Pinterest lovers in the blogging world, I think a blog article would be best.

Imagine your target audience: they're 20-50 something women who want to lose weight. They're pinning inspiration to lose weight. They click on that pin and it's effectively a sales page. Us women see right through it and click off. We want added value, we want information and 'weight loss secrets' before we are going to commit to some product we don't know about.

I'd highly recommend creating a few useful weight loss resources, a free weight loss ebook, and some visually appealing blog posts. Build trust with your Pinterest audience and you'll convert at a much higher percentage.

It will be easier to link your blog to PInterest. It only pins pages with pictures and a landing page rarely changes images. So you would have more pins with a blog. I.E. you can use a new pic with every post and pin that. I would suggest having multiple locations for them to optin to your mailing list as well. That way you get the best of both worlds. Hope it helps

    Hi KD,

I am big on directly folks to a blog because blogs are one stop shopping for readers and potential customers.

Landing pages rock but blogs give readers many options thru which you can build long term relationships. From signing up for your email list to reading your posts to buying your eBooks or courses or audio books to hiring you for your services. Abundant mindset deal here as you will be helping folks in many ways when you drive your Pinterest traffic to your blog.

Have you read this Warrior Forum post about the weight loss niche?

You may want to ask your question there. Lots of discussion about the competitiveness of this market. I don't know if you'd be discouraged by this or take it as a challenge.

You might want to start slow (with just a landing page) and see if you are getting any targeted traffic. You can always use the same domain name to build the page out into a full-fledged blog.

Frankly, I'd hedge my bets and do this with several landing pages for different niches. See which one is more likely to be profitable and invest your time in money in that.

If you want start off with a squeeze page and learn how to get leads. Ideally you want to split test and you can even split test sending the traffic to a blog page that shares value first before asking for a lead. Might filter out a little of the no action takers...
