Please assist with some basic blog advice!

Just look at the different hosting companies. Go through their features and see which ones appeal to you the most. this question is asked time and time and time and time and time again here at the warrior forum. if you search a little you will find this question has been asked hundreds of times.

This is one of the most basic decisions someone starting an online business has to make. As people start to post in this thread you will end up with more questions than answers. everyone has a different opinion. so like i said, do your research and make your decision based on your needs.

Not that it matters, but I use hostgator and hosting from namecheap. But, I do not endorse either one. they just work for me

I also use hostgator for hosting.

For domains I used dynadot.

Basically you need a domain and a hosting account. Their are several free ones but they have limitations. So your best bet is a paid domain and paid hosting.

First off Blue host charges for the full year for hosting account up front. The domain is a separate purchase price for one year.

Since you are new try namecheap for hosting. To save a few dollars look for a discount coupon on the web. You can also get very cheap hosting from them also if you want. That would be a different price again. I think they offer monthly payments for the hosting. The domain would need to be purchased for the year. Question number # 2 look on youtube video's on how to build a wordpress site. No matter who builds the site you will have to write the articles or provide them so they appear on you site. Any more questions please ask or use the search button and type in blog here on the forum.

GoDaddy is user friendly. I have not used them for a while because I started using a different site that is more self directed and technical but go daddy has the documentation to help you with whatever you need.

This step is actually quite simple. Dont get hung up on it. Buy a domain which usually comes with blog hosting , (it should not be more than $20 a year) and push it to wordpress. It sounds too easy, just push it to wordpress but it kind of is. There should be buttons on there where you push and your site goes into wordpress, now you have a wordpress login and a dashboard. Do not let it overwhelm you. At first it looks scary but as you start using it, you learn it really quick. There are all kinds of youtube videos to help you.

Once you have a wordpress, you can implement a them you like (again youtube search it, very easy) and then you have your blog ready to start writing.

One thing you need to ask yourself is, do you want to learn the steps to this or do you just want the blog up. You mentioned you wish there was an option that everything was done for you except the writing part, if you need help send me a message. I can walk you through the first steps or I can get it done for you and would not charge for the labor. But I think there is value in you taking the steps outside your comfort zone to get it set up. It may even turn into your first blog post, here is what I learned...

Bluehost by far has the best web hosting plans and multiple hosting options too. I did not quite understand what you meant when you wrote "Pay for the hosting, then pay for the blogging" I use Bluehost for my blog and I got the domain free for an year. I do agree they might be a trifle expensive when it comes to renewals.
However, You could also explore inMotion, Hostgator or Dreamhost for your hosting needs they have excellent packages to choose from.
Design experience shouldn't be a problem, as long as you are using WordPress as your blogging platform, you will find loads of Free themes to choose from. You can just do a search on Google and choose the one you like the best.
WordPress installation on to your hosting and choosing a theme etc are really easy and simple. They are just a couple of clicks. For further information on that you could read WPbeginner.com. Great resource for learning the WP basics.

I hosted all my sites on Hostgator for years and they have been great untill recently.

lots of down time, bad support etc.

I am now on Siteground and they are awesome and very affordable.

In terms of hosting, browse for the best offer. Make sure to check real external reviews, especially for customer services.

Secondly, I'd recommend Wordpress. There's many different responsive themes to use and you don't need the technical know-how since it's a content management system.

I use namecheap for domain registration and Veerotech for blog hosting.

Check the WSO section to see if their offer is still open. They usually have a discount.

~$10/year for a .com domain and ~$8 a month for hosting.

One piece of advice. Do not get your hosting and domain registration from the same place.

If you ever have problems with your host, and they also control your access to your domain, they can pretty much freeze you out. If the domain is registered elsewhere, you can change a few settings and be back in business in a few hours.

Okay, so the Wordpress DOES come with BH again then? Damn, why does everything keep flipping the script on me in regards to that? I think I'm just drowning in reading stuff. And it's not so much that I expected to learn everything without effort as it is that I didn't expect everything to be so bloody diversified and separate from one another! Whoof. But I appreciate your post. I'm sure I'll keep trying... I'll likely end up just throwing money at Bluehost or Siteground or SOMEONE and seeing what I get and what I can do with it. Heh.

As opposite to everything I've said to this point as it is, I WOULD like to do this all myself just so I have control of everything and am 100% to blame/credit for whatever happens. I reflect back on my teenage years, and I REALLY miss being ahead of the curve on technology. I used to be able to get my computer games back in the day and change the files around to make them silly or more fun or whatever. I was The Tech Guy of my friends. Now, and this is true, I recently spent 40 minutes one day trying to figure out how to put checkboxes in a Word document. It's like my 20's happened and everything changed and I got the luddite brain. And yet, every overstressed mommy on the planet can operate a blog. How hard can it really be?

It's not all that difficult. If you read the fine print, that "free" domain offer is only good for the first year. After that, you pay market price anyway. And if you do end up in a tiff with your combined host/registrar, they have all the leverage.

Once you get through the initial set up process, having the two separately isn't that big a deal. Once a year, I pay my domain renewal. After losing a domain for renewing late, I set up automatic renewal, so renewing just means I get an email saying the charge is coming and one when it actually renews. I get an invoice for hosting by email once a month. It, too, is on autopay, so I get another email saying the invoice has been paid.

How complicated is that?

Plugins: Avoid installing necessary plugins.
Host: BigScoots.com is the best I found in 12+ years experience.

I've used Hostgator for years but I've recently looked into adding Let's Encrypt! and with Hostgator I'd have to get a dedicated IP. With other hosts like SiteGround I can use Let's Encrypt! on their shared hosting plans so I'll probably be switching soon.

I would not recommend Godaddy or host gator.

Both of Those I found very slow. On many occasions to load up webpages.

They were cheaper but that's exactly why. They're not the best.

wordpress is best for blogging. try to update your blog each in everyday for better result. you can also report old post with new date it is also best practice.

I use Site5 for all my web hosting needs. They are a bit on the expensive side but the service is too good.
