Social Media to me is only good because how targeted you can make your ads (e.g Facebook has a great audience insights) however its email for me. Email has a downside that random "buy my product" type of emails don't work as well. If you master email however, its very profitable.

You can't or *shouldn't* do any marketing online if you aren't capturing leads and marketing to them through email on the backend. So starting with social media ads and then driving that traffic to a squeeze page before they see whatever you have to offer is your best bet.

You'll generate more traffic and make more money from your email list over time. Social media is more luck and praying one of your posts goes viral.

I know the answer to this one. I know it, I know it. It's the blue one, because the color blue is more slippery than the color red so there's less drag, right?

If you think you are so smart, then give a real answer with explanation. If no, then don't say anything.

I only use Social media to attract customer, make them go to my blog or landing page to give their email for me. Finally, use email marketing to service them or Pr product

I prefer email marketing as it simply offers me more. I am in the MMO niche so email (safe-list in this instance) presents me with the exact target market I am looking for.

As for social media, I haven't done all that much with the various sites yet. As of right now I am only utilizing a facebook page to post articles and reviews that my prospective buyers can read.

    Hi Scuderia:

I think a combination of the two is best. Using social media as one of your strategies to drive traffic to your landing page and website works.

Once you have the person's email address you can market to them until they unsubscribe or they could stay on your list forever in theory.

Without an email list social media by itself may not be a long term play. I suppose it could work long term until the social media platform decides to cancel your account or ban you.

    Good luck,

I went with social media gradually building up a list, then I started focusing more on email marketing. Worked great for myself anyways.

Use social media to drive people to your opt-in page.

Then cultivate your list, so that they trust you and will buy from you.

Don't blast them with email after email--selling everything.

Give them quality stuff--either in the email itself or link to a blog post or video.

Treat them with respect and they will get the info they need--and you will make money.

    Good Stuff!

    Hope this Helps.

Perspective too narrow. You're asking like there's one singular answer as if it's a "yes" or "no" question.

What techniques are you using? How well do you understand social media? How will you understand the timing for an autoresponder? how do well you understand Writing articles for email versus writing articles for social media?

There are necessarily external advantages or disadvantages to email marketing or social media. That's like asking what do you prefer apples or oranges, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

It's a stupid question, the answer is you do both the question is how do you find the most productive and practical way to utilize both mediums.

To answer, it depends on your mastery of each, and is unique to each individual. No answer given will be definitively correct.

Just to add a few wrinkles:

What if you use social media to grow your email list?

What if social media's the best, but you suck at it but are good at email marketing?

What if your targeted audience ain't on social media but reads email? Or vice versa, doesn't care about email but loves FaceBook and Pinterest?

This is why I asked. Hate when people think narrow. Pisses me off.

Does he have a photography website, a product website, a consignment shop?

There are so many variables that people need to consider.

These stupid techniques that are given out to people teach them as if there is a narrow tunnel vision magic bullet surface level thing they can do that's just gonna be the right answer to give them success.

If it's an easy answer looking for there isn't one.

Love this! Forgot to mention it. Also, what is YOUR specific goal, industry - what do you personally want to achieve?

Sit down and write a long list of goals, and your focus, before touching this question.

Also, when you start using one, focus on it first.

Don't listen to people try to tell you to use both at the same time. Narrow thinking.

Bad advice unless you're already skilled at knowing how to use both, otherwise you're trying to master two things at once, when you haven't fully mastered one.

Keep your priorities in order. #1 key to success.

Both of them. We always should be building our list because then you have a list of potential buyers that you can make money from,if you have good ad copy skills. Social media like for instance Fb ads, is very beneficial and lucrative. I have personally got good results through Fb ads.

I think both are equally important. Email marketing gives you an easy way to connect with your loyal readers consitently, whereas Social media gives you scope to engage with your followers as well as an extended network of users whom you can target.

For me, social media is best. Not all people are familiar with email marketing and can be reached by it. On the other hand, social media connects almost everyone, which means that you have a steady web that touches everyone and all in all has the ability to not just connect you or your service with other people, social media also has the power to pass on the message without people's permission.

I use both forms quite alot, but for me, the one that gives me the best results has to be email. I would say, they both have pros & cons, but i think that with email, you get straight through to that person in their inbox. They have to actually open and read your email. Social media, just doesn't let you get that close. Hope that makes sense.

Whether to "do" email marketing shouldn't even be a consideration.

    It's a very old concept:

#1 You advertise your product or service, usually by offering free information.

#2 You require people to provide their contact info. before free info. is sent.

    #3 Some buy, most don't.

#4 You follow-up with the prospects who don't buy on initial contact and try to convince them to buy. You follow-up with buyers and try to sell related products.

Do these prospects come from PPC, social media, offline flyers, your uncle Chet shouting at the top of his lungs at people?

    IT DOESN"T MATTER!!

What works better: Email marketing or Social media?
They are two different things. One is a traffic generator, the other is a customer management system.
