Help with website please!

Hello all, I just made a Warrior account after stumbling upon the site a few days ago while researching "ways to make money online." While surfing the web, EVERY site I came across was a scam. I wasn't sure where to start, but after reading the forums here I have an "outline" of what I want to do. I could read here for months, but am the type that learns best by getting my hands dirty and would appreciate some feedback before diving in. Please keep in mind I am new to all of this, and may not understand specific marketing strategies or lingo.

After making my first website, I plan to make another for a blog/product review site. I plan to write a few blogs a week on products I know and trust, with affiliate links here and there on specific products/accessories. Though I still have a few unanswered gaps in my plan, and that's why I'm here now.

For starters, the first website I made was strait forward. It is used to promote my fiances craft business. It's my understanding on blog sites, especially new ones, next to no traffic will be starting on my landing (home) page. Rather, they will be searching specific keywords and hopefully come across one of my articles about that topic.. And may click back to my landing page. I have read a few articles on how to design webpages for blogs, but wanted to get a more direct opinion on the best way to layout such a page? Should it be a typical "get to know me" landing page, followed by links to blogs or product reviews I have produced?

My second question is all about affiliates. It is my understanding that amazon is the kingpin of affiliates right now, and recently researched how to become an affiliate with them. Is it hard to be accepted as an affiliate with them? Does my site need traffic before they will approve it? Any other recommended sites out there that are good to start off with, that will pay per click or has physical affiliate products?

I'm not expecting to get rich quick, and understand it could take months or possible years before I start seeing a decent profit. I am looking for something I can put some time into every week and hopefully see progress. I am also open to any other online strategies, if you have any suggestions please fill me in. I am still trying to grasp all the ways to actually make money online!

Rather than waiting to find the best way, you might find it's useful to put something up. Then get started putting your ideas there so that you can see what they look like to you. As you learn? Make changes. Momentum makes a difference. You can start to create your own momentum by doing small things -- and changing what you've created as you get better. You'll get the benefit of not-being-seen as you do :-) because you can make mistakes and learn from them without a big fall.
