good quality mic/headset?

Hey

I'm looking to record some videos and want to make sure the audio is crisp, clean ad noise is down to a minimum in order to keep the video professional. What mics/headsets which you guys suggest?

Also what are the advantages or disadvantages of choosing a mic over a head set?

Lastly what is the best mic/headset for recording audio/video for IM?

Thank you

You actually convinced me to log into my account so I could post this so here goes.

I played counter-strike for about 11 years (online first person shooter video game) because of this I spent a lot of time and money on finding what worked best for both listening and speaking ingame.

I personally have and back Sennheiser headphones and headsets. I currently use their PC150 headset for my microphone and the HD 555's for my headphones.

I have used the PC150's as a microphone for doing a few youtube marketing videos so I can tell you that the sound is great. Just make sure not to have any fans running in the background.

Here is a link to the PC151 I do not think they sell PC150's anymore as they are probably an old model. Sennheiser USA - PC Headset, gaming Headset, PC 151, Skype, VoIP - Private Audio

IF I were you I would check out the different headsets through Sennheiser and find one that fits your needs/tastes/budget.

Oh and in no way am I affiliated with them though I should be as they have made a die hard Sennheiser customer only out of me : D

Hope that helps, and don't be afraid to hit me back if you have a question on the different headsets.

  • Logitech Clear Chat is awesome. I think some of the earlier models had problems, but I have a new one and I love it.

Always use a well recognized brand name.
Sennheiser makes Professional Studio quality microphones so I would
    choose the model cow194234 mentioned.
I use to work in the pro audio dept. at Guitar Center

I have an Audio Technica AT2035 and a Edirol USB Audio Capture UA-25. It works really well for me and I am very happy.

I think it's the same stuff Mike Stewart recommends at InternetAudioGuy.com

Audio-Technica makes great stuff! I have the AT3035, which, if I recall, was highly recommended by people too. It's been a while since I bought it, but I think I sought out recommendations from some audio professionals online in a forum or something, and that's what I came out with.

Oh for sure the Audio Technica mic is the way to go. I thought the OP was only interested in headsets. Until I reread it.

Anyway, I got mine through Mike Stewart as well. His customer service is wonderful!
