Is Video The Future and Blogging The Past?

I've been blogging for some time in different niches and have had some good results in some, so I'm pretty much familiar with the process however, recently I have taken notice of video as a way of also getting my message across and I also came across an article that said search engines are literally in love with video content and give it preferential treatment over plain text and are easier to rank.

It was also suggested that video helps to build a lot more trust and credibility as you get to see the facial expressions, body language, emotions etc of the person....

I believe video is the future, we all see how successful youtube is!! I think blogging is going to slowly fade into the background and take a very distant back seat.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think blogging will fade away anytime soon. Many thought paperback books will lose its market after ebook was introduced. But that never happened.

Same way, the traditional blogging will not fade away. Even today the most successful bloggers are creating their content in words.

Nope. I don't think blogging is going anywhere.

    The Internet didn't kill TV..
    TV didn't kill radio..
    Radio didn't kill books..

Blogging is just another way to consume information.. and a portion of people will always prefer to read.

From what I'm hearing, most people who watch videos on their phone do so with the sound turned off so it doesn't disturb people around them. And using earbuds is a hassle.

    But with that said..

    MP3 killed CD..
    CD killed cassette..
    Cassette killed vinyl..

Also the process of making video is vastly more complex than just whacking at your keyboard for a few days. I know that my RBF is perfect for radio and text, but less suited for cameras and I'm probably not alone in thinking so.

Yeah, I guess as long as people enjoy reading then there will be a place for blogging but I do see video growing more as people find new and better ways to use it......

lol...video is here , it's NOT the future

Blogging is going to be around for awhile at least in our lifetime. Contrary to what naysayers bellow about , more and more people are starting one every year.

I think video is the future in that people engage better with video content. I'd rather watch a video than read. Let's face it, we're lazy and spoiled.

YouTube is becoming very competitive, but I still find it much easier to reach an audience via YouTube than via blog.

There are benefits to a self-hosted website/blog. You can sell your own products, collect emails, become an affiliate for any program you wish.

So for me it's a one-two punch. And those benefits of self hosting mean that blogging won't be disappearing anytime soon.

Started a blog about blogging about 6 months ago. Yes, it's very competitive. But I know my way around SEO and I create awesome content. Still haven't been able to gain traction. So I'm moving posts to YouTube.

Highly competitive keywords like "how to make money blogging" on Google search have top video results on YouTube that are, in my opinion, embarrassing. I feel that it is my duty to put up better content. Here's my first YouTube video:

Yet you're here writing text on a forum instead of creating a video on Youtube.

I've been including videos in my blogs for about 10 years now.

They aren't new, they are just one more tool to use in delivering your content/message.

Why not use both? I feel like both are still relevant and extremely important.

I think both of them evolved so much in recent years and have gained popularity in these days. You cannot differentiate them with each other. Both of them have good future.

I've been doing video marketing on Facebook and I can categorically say that BLOGGING is not dead.

    How come?

Use videos to build up your Page like count

Use your blog to monetize your page by sharing provocative posts

While I agree that videos have become more popular over time, I don't see blogging going anywhere soon. I think the best way to do it is to integrate blogs, videos, social media, etc all together as much as possible.

A side note , I might be weird but I'm not a huge fan of most video content, most seem to be a video for the sake of being a video

I think it depends on the niche. But both should still have relevance in the coming years though

Video marketing is very powerful. But Blogging will 'always' be around. Believe or not, not everyone likes to watch videos. Most people still prefer to 'scan' blog posts and quickly get what they were looking for.

I don't think so. I think that video and blogging both have their own perks. I don't think blogging will fade anytime soon

  • No I don't think blogging is going away.

I'll admit it, when I need a quick solution these days I tend to go to YouTube and watch a video and - yeah - watching a video is easier maybe in some ways.

But there are always going to be people that are going to read text. Books are still very well alive and if anything - on the rise probably. I see many people (counting myself) use blogging as a tool to get the message out backed up by an embedded YouTube video for example. So when people come to their blog they can choose to read the blog post or watch a video about it.

I think there will always (or for a long time) be people that prefer one medium from another. It's just about catering to certain needs. Don't just choose one medium - let them work together and reinforce eachother. Re-use the blogpost and read it as a Podcast. Turn the blogpost into an ebook chapter.

Yeah maybe video is better ranked than blogging but that doesn't mean that blogging doesn't work or doesn't get ranked. A blog can be used to further represent you as an authority after somebody watched your video on YouTube and clicked the link to your blog. So growing or declining - not sure - but it's sure not going away any time soon.

    Hope it helps

Video and blogging are both parts of the present. Although vlogging has come to light in the past years (a mixture of video and blog). Both video and blog still have firm grips on the current market of the internet. This question is like asking if E-books are the future and real books are the past. Both are still very much alive and none are being left in the past.

Best is a combination of written content and video. The human brain processes video easier than written text.

blogging won't be disappearing soon, but I do think that blogs which combine both videos and traditional blogging can work quite well...
