Monthly Membership: Forum vs Once/Month Webinar Q&A

Just putting the final touches on my membership site and wondering whats a better model to follow for helping members.

I was going to do either:

a. a forum
b. a monthly Q&A webinar
c. Both

I really like the idea of a forum HOWEVER it really concerns me how much of a time suck it will be. I see people doing both.

Its not going to be expensive like $27/month and I hope to get thousands so keeping a forum up like that could be job in itself.

I want to provide a good service but I dont want to be slaving away constantly having to worry about replying to the forum. Maybe its not as much work and won't be as busy as I think though. How busy would a forum of 1000 members be?

I've partnered in a forum, worked as a paid moderator / coach, and paid content generator off and on since 2010.

It is time consuming for sure to run a forum and a big challenge is keeping the conversation moving, lively and active. Sometimes getting a response is harder than needing to keep up with a backlog.

I like the monthly webinar and live training model. It's a lot less time consuming and you can repurpose the content easily.

Which does your audience prefer? You have asked them, correct?

If you don't provide great value and in the platform that they want, you won't need to worry about too much work - you'll be wishing you had some.

That's a good point Steve. I always forget the value of a survey...

You have to really love a forum to keep it alive and they are super time consuming.

Monthly or weekly Q/A calls would be much easier to manage and can be a lot more lucrative from a time management perspective. You could also have guest experts on your calls. Plus your Q/A calls can become standalone products you sell and the backend can be to get them to join your membership.

I was first thinking, Why not both?

If you're worrying about having to constantly reply to people then perhaps a forum isn't for you unless you hire help.
