Having trouble monetizing my traffic

I have some posts on my web site that receive a decent amount of traffic. The topic is related to moving to Hawaii. Right now I receive around 1,000 unique visitors to one post each month. I offer a free eBook version of the page that visitors are able to download.

I tried running google adsense and received very little return. I also tried selling ads directly to Hawaii realtors and had no bites.

I'm considering putting up an email list and providing the eBook during signup. But say I get 500 signups. What then? How do I turn that list into $$$?

My only goal is to cover the hosting and domain costs each month which run around $30.

Let me know if you have ideas!

If your traffic is interested in living in Hawaii, you might do better with a free report on the subject to collect emails and begin a series of emails with them, to better qualify what they need.

Lots of info on Hawaii already out there, what makes yours different, unique or how are you standing out?

It begins with your TRAFFIC source, and the reason they come to your site, you have to capture this traffic and get more information from them, before you begin to monetize it.

    Hi:

Consider building an email list like you seem to be starting to do.
Provide the free gift to get them to opt-in to your list.
Survey your list to see what they need in their quest to move to Hawaii.
Either develop a product that they want or find someone with that product that offers an affiliate program that you can use to monetize your leads.
    Possible topics might be:
    Insurance- auto, home, hurricane, flood
Moving and Storage-- Some moving companies may need leads that you can provide.

This should get you started and you can google what people moving to hawaii are most interested in to keep the ideas flowing.

    Good luck,

    Dan

Hey, that's great! Congratulations on your success at attracting people to yourself. Maybe now you can experiment with offering a free gift that gives more on the exact same topic in exchange for their email. Perhaps choose an angle that is helping you in your own life or that has helped you recently. That way you'll be able to put your own fire into it today -- and then make it better soon.

    Hey Casey,
Congratulations on building that site up.

First, the email list remains a top money making tool. It's a market place you can always monetize.

Now, I think you can do well signing up to some travel affiliate marketing platform, selling stuffs like tickets or hotel reservations, etc.

You may try out Booking.com, TripAdvisor Affiliate Program,Agoda Affiliate Program,Skyscanner Affiliate Program, etc

You can earn money from your list through selling affiliate products or Hawaiian items! You can sell tour tickets or invite them to book hotels through your link. You can also promote 100% Hawaiian products while you do this, or post them on your website. You can even offer moving services they could avail, if they choose to move to Hawaii for good.

Aside from earning from your list, you can also create a YouTube channel and show people why they SHOULD move to Hawaii, or at least visit Hawaii! You can monetize it after you get a good number of subscribers and place affiliate links as well. Good luck!

ABL - Always be Building a List. It doesn't matter if you only have 50 people on the list if you have a good relationship with them. Sure size matters (ahem) but the relationship that you have with the people on the list is what really matters. Be honest, helpful and look to give before asking and you're on the right path.

Here are some ideas on how to utilize the list that you've built a relationship with:
    • Email the list telling them about a great new article on your site (instant traffic)
    • Send them special info that only the list gets (new happenings in Hawaii, special travel deals, personal stories, etc)
    • Build a story around and offer affiliate promos if you can find them
    • Get the list to engage with you by asking them what they most want. Develop and offer products and services around their answers.

In short a list allows you direct communication with the people on the list. Treat them like gold and they may just send some back your way.

Reminds me of my celebrity blog I had years ago. Just a tough nut to monetize. Not sure if your niche is narrower than just moving to Hawaii or not ?? But Adsense CPC would be negligible I suspect.
