If so, I'd like to learn more about this and hear your experiences, positive and negative. Thank you!

Yes. I am an iTunes affiliate. Have been for years. I mainly promote Apps but you can also promote anything else that can be found on iTunes (music, movies, books, etc).

I don't make a lot off of the program since I don't work very hard at promoting products for iTunes. I mainly just add links within my apps and on my app website. However, I do bring in a couple hundred bucks every month or two.

For the past couple of years the iTunes affiliate program is managed through Performance Horizon Group for all regions. Prior to that there were several partners who managed the program in various regions around the world. So, it's nice to have a single place to go manage your account, see stats, etc.

I believe that the rate is 7% of anything purchased by a customer that you refer for a period of 3 days. In the past the % was lower but you owned the cookie for way longer. This led to more affiliate income than the current system.

A big drawback, at least for apps and probably for all iTunes products, is that it is virtually impossible to trace a single user all the way to a purchase. Which makes it that much more difficult to optimize your traffic. However, you can add in a "campaign token" to your affiliate url that will get tracked in PHG's system so that you can get some sense of which traffic led to a sale on an aggregate sense.

If you can drive a lot of traffic it can pay well. But you constantly need to be driving new traffic since you don't own the referral for very long.

There is a great overview/howto at MacStories that is worth a read. https://www.macstories.net/tutorials...liate-program/

Awesome info. I really appreciate it! I was wondering how long the cookie is good for. Three days is pretty short. Sounds like it's something that could add in a little extra cash but nothing to really count on consistently. Good to know!
