Should I give 'creating content for cash' a try?

I don't have many specific skills (although use to be carpenter+plasterer ect on a building site)

But I'm doing a 'course' and was told to try 'writing content for cash.'

The thing is my grammar isn't great and I haven't written many articles for my own projects. (say 15 or so)

But the coach told us that we should try elance.com. Do you think it's a bad idea with my lack of skills?

I am looking for some money fairly quickly so I can''t decide wether to do this or spend my time learning affiliate marketing.

  • If you are talking about writing for other people to make money, here is my take...

I started off writing for others to make money. It was fun at first, and I made a nice amount of money. But, you will eventually hit a brick wall one day and realize that it is just another form of a job and is not really going anywhere. I read somewhere that having an income that is tied in direct proportion to the amount of work you do is one of the worst things in life...

Now, some will disagree with me, and some people do make really good money writing for others. But, I think writing for yourself and making money over and over again for the same piece of work is a better route to go.

Also, you may say "I will just do this to make some money on the side as I work on other projects..." You may believe this at the beginning, but in the end, writing will take up all your time, and no progress will be made on your other projects...

    Just my opinion...

Saying something is a good or bad idea just doesn't work in my opinion. Writing content for cash is something that works and works well for a lot of people. Then there are people that it won't work for. This is true with every single method of internet marketing that you will ever find. Certain things work for some people and will not work for others (Im experiencing that first hand right now). The point is to find something you think you can do or learn and try it for a while only after you have exhausted every attempt to making it work for you should you consider moving to something else. But remember that if its possible to make money doing something then its possible for you to do it as well. If you have a lack of skills then its up to you to acquire those skills and make it work.

Selling content for cash is a good way for a lot of people to get started, but it shouldn't be one-size-fits-all advice. You have to be pretty serious to make decent money on Elance.

If you are just looking to fund your business expenses (hosting and domains) and there is no room in your budget, it is something to consider. But if you are already resisting the idea, it's unlikely you'll be willing to put the effort needed into it to succeed. So take that energy and apply it to building your own business.

    Thanks for everyones time.

I agree with EVERYTHING that was written.

I guess it just comes down to education and confidence.
Knowing how to write good articles and then believing that I can do it. (Enjoying what I am doing is very important as well)

I was a little put off by the fact that choosing the 'free' option only allows 3 connects or bids each month. I may have to make low offers in the beginning before I build a little reputation.
Also would I need a full membership to have any real chance at making some money?

I think I need to try before deciding whether it's for me and whether I am capable of writing 'content for cash.' (Also, I think that's the idea)

Has anyone got any advice or does anyone know any good sources of info about writing articles or Elance ect? (If not then I'll try Google)

    Again, thanks for your advice.
