16% opening rate (aweber) how to increase this?

hi,

I have a list of over 1200 subscribers, I send them 1 email once a week
but the opening rate is only 16% and click rate is under 3%

how can I increase this?

The html emails are higher opening rate

Ensure that your e-mail does not go straight to your subscribers' spam mail. To do this is to check your professional e-mail before sending them. If you redo your e-mail newsletters and make them more engaging, then you might probably get higher opening and click rates. Try placing images or videos too.

Starts at the top of the funnel.

Why are people subscribing to your list? Are they expecting to hear from you? Are they excited to hear from you? Or, did you just "squeeze them into" opting into your list?

I'd take a list of 300 people where 50-60% of my e-mails vs. 1,200 where only 16% open any day...

There are a few data points you need before you can take discrete steps:

    1. Who are these people on your list? Are they randos or people in your precise, targeted demographic?
    2. When are you sending these emails?
    3. What are the subject lines? Are they openable?
    4. How many people are repeat openers? It's possible you have some cruft in your email list that needs to be culled out.

Addressing the above should help you figure out what you need to do in order to improve your open rate.

Resend to those that didn't open.

Aweber lets you send unlimited messages, so why send just once per week.

    Test different subject lines.

Do you know the domain makeup of the list and have seed accounts to test your inbox placement?

Some of the emails used to subscribe with could be throw away accounts and just used to signup with to get whatever you were giving away and need to be removed if the don't ever open over a period of time.

    Hi,

I think 16% is not bad in terms of industry benchmarks. If you are in IM or affiliate industry 15 to 18% is normal.

However, as other fellow warriors pointed out, i couldn't agree more. Mail to un openers, and engage with those who open, may be use new AUTOMATION features of aweber to get most out of your campaigns

Assuming you got them the right way (they signed up to your list thinking they'll get what they are getting),

    improve headlines
send at different times of day
    write better copy
make call to action more clear/or make it blend in more/or move it to the right/or the left/or up/or down.

If, on the other hand, you're sending them messages that have little to do with what they signed up for, stop it. Send them messages that match.

It's not rocket science, however, you gave no info that anyone can use to give you something that applies to you.

Lots of variables here. But a few things I have not seen mentioned yet on this thread.

Give, give, give and then ask. Don't just send offers to your list. Build a relationship. Give value over and over again... make them wait with anticipation for your emails.

Get your list to engage with you. Ask them their hopes, dreams and fears. Get them to respond to your email with info about those hopes, dreams and fears. Gmail will see their responses as a positive and inbox more of your email.

Are you sure that having them reply to the email will increase the amount of emails that hit the inbox or will they still end up in the 'promotions' tab of gmail?

Aweber is quite expensive when you get a big list so I need to be able to justify that expense in future by having the right strategy in place.

In my experience, yes, I believe it helps. And while 'getting in the inbox' is a must, once you are there you need to get your list to engage with you.

The size of your list is only one aspect. That list needs to be responsive.

Would you rather have 100K subs with a 2% open rate or 10K subs with a 50% open rate?

If you have an engaged and responsive list of buyers (not freebie seekers) then ultimately the cost of your autoresponder service is an afterthought. (i.e. you can make way more from that list than the cost of your email service).

This is true, it increases your engagement, which increases your reputation.

I do this with all my messages.

Are you currently in the promotions tab? If so, are you using images in your message?

Easy, delete the 84% of subscribers that never open your emails.

Now you have a 100% open rate.

You might think I'm kidding but I'm not. You will get some email subscribers that never open an email. Therefore they don't serve a purpose. Clean out your email list.

Example, If someone doesn't open any of the last 20 emails, they're toast, delete them from the list.

Emailing them once a week is NOT enough.

You have to email 5-6 times at least.

Most successful marketers - such as Ryan Deiss - emailed at least 3-4 times per day

Not just emailing offers after offers.

But providing good valuable content as well.

May I also suggest besides your squeeze page, you set up a blog as well?

Tell people who you are, what you do for a living, how you get started online and tips for anyone wanting to do the same.

If you are comfortable with doing videos, you may also consider setting up a Youtube channel and uploading at least 5-7 videos based on your blog posts.

Introducing yourself and all the points I mentioned above regarding blog.

For me, I emailed 4-5 times per day.

    With 3 types of content.

    1. My affiliate offters,

    2. My own product offers,

    3. My blog posts and soon -

    4. My Youtube channel videos which is still in development.

    Hope this helps.

      Complete nonsense.

Nobody in this world is going to open 90 - 120 emails per month from Ryan Deiss or anyone else. They're going to unsubscribe from a habitual email spammer.

      Don't believe the hype.

I think so, I unsubscribed Ryan Deiss for the same reason, he sends out too much emails which have little to no value. I got emails (in my spam) even after I unsubscribed him. Sending emails once a day at a specified time (prefer between 10-11 am) with five super high-quality long articles (newsletter) is what most successful online businesses do. I prefer the same. If you want to publish more in a day then update it in your fb page. Sending out too many emails only provoke people to unsubscribing. Its my thought, however.

Sorry to break it to you, but that's the nature of the game.
People rarely open emails or click through, especially from marketers. If you are a big name marketer then that's different. I myself only read them if they are from a name whose work I follow. The rest I will unsubscribe or send to spam. Mark Anastassi is going to get a lot of opens .Peter Smith is not.

You can try throwing a ton of value at them in the form of documents, videos etc, but I guarantee the open rate will stay the same. Things have moved on. I know hardly anyone who looks at emails. All their communication is done on Facebook?
There's not really a lot one can do about it.

If you are talking about the niches in your signature then that might be the reason. Think about it. Either one of those issues, If your free offer worked for them then they have no reason to open any more of your emails. Secondly. If your free offer was crap or had no affect on their problem then they won't open future emails.

If you're not already doing it, provide your Subscribers/People with exceptional content. Forget about trying to "convert" them (etc.) and make your list something that they actually look forward to opening.

Takes some work to be sure, however (IMO) it's worth it.

i increased and made lots of money on email marketing.

Simply by studying people you know are doing $100k per month.

The chances are they will be doing LOTS of email marketing, and emailing their leads like 1-2 times every day or so.

Study what they write and how they write it. It makes a huge difference.

While this is technically true. Open rates do matter.

The more users that open, the greater engagement and reputation you will build with email providers, which will help with your inboxing. Also the more opens, the greater potential you will have for generating conversion / ROI.

  • Send stuff that they care about?

I don't remember when was the last time I opened an email if the list owner didn't tell me that I should expect to receive an email from him/her about whatever topic his list is about.

How can you expect them to open your emails, if you don't set their expectations in the first place?

Before you build a list, tell people how often you'll be sending out emails. Why you'll send out the emails and what they should expect.

Don't just send an email for the sake to send an email.

Many people get much lower open rate %. So if you're doing it the way everyone does.. I think 16% is pretty good!
