Google Adsense Bounce Rate

I have an Insurance blog and my usually bounce rate is 40-50% but, a week ago I made some updates to my site(all links internal and external to open in new window target="_blank")

After this update, I discover that bounce rate dramatically falls down, now it's only 1-2%

So, I just wondering, should I remove all target="_blank" links?
1-2% is so bad?

My site is hosted on blogger. Since it was getting a lot more traffic I had updated the template to make it look nicer, be more reader friendly and to increase page load and rendering time. After switching to the new template traffic increase.

To match the new template I needed to go into each individual post and make some changes to at least the first image and update the post. While I was there I fixed some grammatical and spelling mistakes as well as typos.

It was only after doing the updates to individual posts that I saw my high ranking pages tank. After I noticed that I went back and replaced the content of those pages with the original content with typos, misspellings and all. The only thing that was different was in my sitemap (and probably someplace else?) where it shows the published date the same as it was but the updated date had been updated to the new date. That's the only thing I can think made a difference and I don't think I can change that. I've tried deleting all posts and importing a backup I had but that didn't seem to do anything.

I've gone through the site and template again making other onpage optimizations. Got the pagespeed up to 90 from 80, increased page rendering dramatically to the point where if I do the test on the new pagespeed service my original is faster than the optimized page. I've added some rel='archive, nofollow' to the archive pages so that I don't have to worry about duplicate content from my own site. Added nofollow to the tag, label anchors as well. I've changed the robots.txt page so that crawlers can't even access the archive pages and made a removal request for those pages.

Number of ads has stayed the same compared to the original template. Relevant content is higher up on the page than it was before and on the left instead of the right for lower resolution screens so more content should be in the screen then previously. I'm pretty sure adhering to google's webmaster guidelines better than before.

The site contains substantial and original content. I have not bought, bartered or requested links from other sites, tweeters, pinners, etc. The loss in rankings has made me lose interest in posting lately.

your site lacks focus. It is supposed to be about insurance and you have sections on solar power??

And, I do not think this type of site is suited for the theme you are using. It is a gallery type theme, maybe try and split test with a magazine or news type theme.

Sounds like something that's happened to me a little while ago with data that GA reports.

Make sure you haven't accidentally added a duplicate Analytics code to the site. That sounds like what's happening here. It's not bad just the data is skewed due to some sort of a bug if you add more than one tracking code.

see if you can speed up your site as well, lots of bounce (and google's decision for ranking or showing your site) can be better with a speedier site.

It looks like your code is messed up.

Check the code you installed and make sure you put it in the right file or location.

There was another post on warriorforum about some new suspected Google algorithm change, I think they did not say there was an animal named for it yet, but around March 3rd but some commenters were also talking about March 8th.... Some suggestions there were about having less advertisement on home page, also some suggested narrowing top menu vertically to shorten the "header" space of the top menu. (This is all just from my memory from earlier reading this evening.) There was a link to a page on seroundtable dot com dated March 13th about the Google Fred Update and I still have that page in an open tab so here it is: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-fred-update-ad-heavy-low-value-23538.html

    Hope that helps.
