"Gullible" removed from dictionaries, but not from the forum

Sorry but it's still there in the dictionary, but many Warriors don't think it can ever apply to them.

Every day I see threads such as "I knew nothing and now I make $10,000 a week" or "How I made "$150,000 in 3 weeks".

Those threads appeal to many Warriors and that is evident by the number of gushing replies that appear, and the threads sometimes take on a life of their own, running into a number of pages of appreciative comments.

No evidence is provided. No proof is given. On some occasions a screen shot showing sales figures will be posted, but apparently the gullible ones don't know that they can very easily be faked. They are sitting ducks for the marketer who then decides that with so many people eager to learn how he or she did it, they can sell a "How To" course.

If the gullible people all disappeared from the forum, how would those "successful" Warriors sell their courses?

I know people have dreams and I wish all Warriors success, but I urge all members to be wary of big earnings claims.

Wise to beware as a buyer. If it sounds to good to be true it likely is. And one of the 5 laws of gold is that is only schemers who would take your gold that promise to press your gold to unimaginable earnings. If it sounds like your investment is going to multiply 100s and thousands of times over you can expect the one taking your money is the only one making money

I've found that there are so many variables to success that often are not captured in the advice that is promoted as a "how to" course.

There is no such thing as get rich quick, without the experience and failures that help create long lasting success.

I'm sure a miniscule amount of people it happens. Personally speaking after 10 years of work I became an overnight success

I clicked on Thanks but that wasn't enough appreciation for your valuable comment.

It seems that lots of people on this forum want to become an overnight success (overnight!) and think that because someone else says they did that and will show them how to do it, it will magically happen.

'Caveat emptor' Latin for 'Let the buyer beware' has been around forever.

Sadly many of us, myself included at times, forget this and fail to properly evaluate the extravagant claims made by some marketers.

Not sure why exaggerated online claims seem to be so enticing. We probably wouldn't believe them if we were face to face with a sales person on a shop floor.

It behoves us all to proceed with caution

The good life's messing up your memory, friend.

Not only were you homeless and had not a penny yesterday, but you owed the IRS $500.000 and they were about to put you in jail and your ex-partners, tho whom you also owed $500,000, were after you to break your knees.

You are, indeed, lucky to have met the guy with the super-secret ninja method.

Thanks for a great post Walter. Shiny object syndrome & information overload has definitely gotten the best of me in the past. With everything constantly being offered online & flooding my inbox it's very important for me to do my due diligence to determine the legitimacy of products & services these days.

The place where I frequently meet up with victims of the gullibility factor is in product sourcing.

The biggest problem is that almost everyone seems to believe anything that is published on the big B2B websites. That's not really surprising because those sites work hard to convince prospective buyers that they can trust the suppliers that they advertise.

If you read the fine print on those sourcing sites (and who does except me?), you will find disclaimers saying that you must do your own due diligence, but surely the proprietors of those sites should do some real due diligence themselves before giving badges that indicate that a supplier is trustworthy.

I have posted scores of times warning about the risks of importing big brand name products, but it is obvious that those warnings are largely ignored.

I have frequently warned that forging of documents is endemic in China, but people still believe that if a supplier has a certificate it must be OK.

From my perspective, the classic case was one who bought my book and went on to break every precautionary rule in that book. He saw the dollar signs in places which I suggest should be avoided, and yes, as @Joyce Birmingham said "we want to believe" and he believed. He lost several thousand dollars.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and it's fair to say that while the claims are certainly present the evidence rarely accompany them. It's almost a human psychological weakness to be sucked in by the dream without letting our rational brain interject and put a pause on things. We need that rush, that fantasy and it's no fun to be the one to spoil things but we would do well to remember that our rational selves are ultimately there to protect us.

You're quite right. Most won't read the thread and if they do they will ignore the plain truth, because they are seeing what they want to see in those threads that promise everything for nothing.

I have posted a new thread Yiwu Markets Explained but I doubt that it will make any impression on those with dollar signs in their eyes.

Oh well - at least I've tried to help those who can't help themselves.

Yeah, it's true.. you have to watch someone for a while before you should trust them..

The post you are referring to, linking to my thread Yiwu Markets Explained, is not in any way self promotional. That Yiwu thread is entirely composed of valuable educational information which, if applied, could save some of the gullible warriors a fortune. I know the Yiwu markets. Most newbies have never heard of it, but I have told them how to buy there if they want to.

The person whose popular post was one of the ones that prompted my "Gullible ...." thread here has adopted one of my suggestions and that might well save him from being sued into bankruptcy.

I know it's hard for cynics constantly exposed to opportunists and scammers to believe that someone does try to help, but it happens to be true.

I sell my book because I can't explain all 133 pages on the forum, though in my AMA I provide a lot of free and helpful information to people who I know will never buy my book.

There are 2 main reasons why I don't give my book away: 1. I would be swamped by people who need support (Busy enough in my retirement thanks) and 2. I learned early in my business life, about 50 years ago in fact, that people don't value something they get for nothing.

P.S. The Yiwu thread has been moved again by mods and is now in the eCommerce Sites, Wholesaling & Drop Shipping forum where so far the only response reads:
"Absolutely excellent information as usual, Walter. Thanks for all the excellent contributions you've made. I certainly notice and appreciate them"

  • Hmm, there must be a reason why this is called "warrior" forum.

Maybe it's because so many people are fighting each other here to sell each other online marketing programs?
