Hello Warriors,

I am thinking about launching a resume design service. I am trying to get ideas on what would be the best ways to market it... Google Adwords is one option but not sure if it's worth the money. Any other ideas?

Many thanks

Why? Who is your target market? What do you bring to the table that is better or different than what is already out there?

I had a resume/job finding business which was bringing in over $1,000.00 per day and that with only two customers per day at that. But, then, I knew what I was doing.

Could be a gold mine for you, if you, too, know what you are doing.

      Hello Gordon,

Thanks for the comment. First of all, as a designer, I think I know what a good resume design is and how to give clients the choice to choose from a number of templates that serve their individual needs.

Secondly, I can outsource my work which means I can offer rates that are cheaper than others in the competition.

My target market would be top level CEO's, CFO's etc.

With all that said, what I would really like to know is the place where I can market my service. Like I said in my first post, Google Adwords was an option but I was not sure it was worth the money. Can I try and launch it on the Warrior Forum? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks

You know other resume design peeps know how to/can/and actually outsource?

You missed Gordon's point, I think. Which was: who is willing and able to buy a resume template?

Answer that question and you will have a much better idea as to where to advertise your service.

"As a designer, I think I know what a good resume design is..." That strikes me as a strange statement. It does it because you having designing skills is not the same as you understanding how a human resources/recruiter is moved by resume designs.

If you'd have said, as a former employer who's seen many resumes/ as someone who's studied how recruiters respond to resume design... I'd have said nothing about the sentiment expressed.

What I'm saying here is this: it looks to me you've not properly considered your buyers and, before you invest a lot in setting up, you'd benefit from identifying who wants what you propose to sell and how THEIR users see it.

The point of a resume is to get a job interview/a job, not just to look pretty.

I think that picking high-ranking CEOs and CFOs for your target demographic is a very ambitious goal.

Those people usually don't need 3rd party services to help them design a resume, they have a lot of experience doing it and they also have internal services that can help them.

In my opinion, college graduates is a great demographic. They all need a great resume and usually, have no idea how to create one. Initially, the profits would not be as high, because you couldn't charge as much, but if you had a successful launch and good marketing, you would acquire a lot more customers.

I think that google adverts, Facebooks ads, or maybe even Twitch ads would be a very easy way to market to college graduates, definitely a lot easier than marketing to high ranking CEOs.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Good luck!

Hi, few tips to design best resume:
Use Columns For Better Organization.(A resume should be as short as possible while also including the best and most important highlights of your career)
Be a Show Of(best work and most impressive clients should pop from the page)
Design That's On-Trend(If you are in the creative world, there’s no excuse for an outdated resume design)
    Use a Distinguishing Orientation

Personally I stop reading a resume when I get to columns. It usually means they have just used way to many words to promote themselves. A resume is meant to be short. If I have a list of 100 to go through (and I have in the past). I'm not spending time on the ones with tag clouds, graphs, columns, massive lists of bullet points. I just don't have the time.

I know this is a little off topic to what the OP was asking

Do you have a website offering your service? You can use adwords and FB ads to levy customers to your site but you have to make sure that you target your audience accurately so that you're not just throwing money down the drain. TEST TEST TEST your ads. Start off with a $5 ad spend and see if you draw in customers/leads.

Another quick way to get your "foot in the door" is offering your service on sites like Upwork, Freelancer and even Craigslist. There's many other freelance sites out there that you can find by doing a google search. It's free to set up a profile on most of them. It's added exposure. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the excellent advice. I still do not have a website yet but once I have made up my mind, will get it ready soon. I also like your suggestion about Freelancer etc. I will definitely take note of this. Many thanks

An after thought, do you think it may bring any customers if I market the service here on the Warrior Forum as well? Let me know your thoughts please...
