Newb trying to build an online business.

I've spent the money and time, nearly three years (very part time) and tens of thousands, I own all the tools and understand the concept but where I get hung up is in making everything work, it seems everytime I try to do anything I hit a road block, time and time and time again, I send support tickets when I can't chat, and then I'm off to the next thing as I wait for a reply to my ticket.
Heres an example; I wanted to add a paypal button to my new website as part of the build, went got the HTML code, installed it into the page, it wouldn't change from the code to the button, might seem simple to someone that has done this before but for me it isn't, so I hit up chat, I was told I'd have to call support which I have not done yet because I am at my 9 to 5.
So this will have to wait until later, I will likely forget because not only do I have a 9-5 I also have a part time gig as a building and remodeling contractor. I am busy all the time, I have a job to do after work today and all day tomorrow so it will be sunday before I can get any answers about my pay pal button, IF I can get some answers on Sunday? (Another 2 or maybe 3 days lost) and frustrated to no end.
I have a coach, He is awesome but I only get a half hour a week with him, and there are usually techy difficulties or other problems that we deal with at the time of the call so I really only get some good solid content for about 20 minutes a week, and usually about two hours after our class I can't remember exactly what he showed me so when I try to replicate it I get shitty results.
I'm not complaining here folks more just blowing off some steam. I want and need to make this business work for me and quickly.
I welcome any input.

Do you have a WordPress website? Can you perhaps send me an email with your paypal button code so I can have a look at it? I would gladly try and help.

        Why not?

        Is it static HTML?

Adding an HTML snippet to any site is click and paste.

I'm curious what you're working with.

The last thing the OP needs is more guides and courses. He's spent thousands on them already.

Seriously, a hobby where you make a few bucks on the side is one thing, but holding down two jobs while trying to get a grip on the technical aspects of building an internet business sounds like a good way to drive yourself crazy. Your coach may well be "awesome", but until you can set aside some quality time to focus on your internet business, you're just throwing away more money.

If I were you, I'd take a step back and either rearrange my priorities to create more time, or hold back until my circumstances change. As it stands, you're not really giving yourself a chance.

        Thanks Frank,
This online business is my priority, I can scale back my side construction business as needed and truth be told I really have had ample time to work on it. I just keep getting stuck on tasks and as I had mentioned if I don't understand how to fix it, its even more frustrating to stop and ask for help which sometimes takes up to 48 hours to get.

Yes I have access to the 7 steps, I just havn't taken the time to digest it, with another winter storm here in the Northeast this weekend would be a good time for me to do so.
      Thanks for your input.

    Rofish,

If you have a coach and he can't help you get a simple selling site online and able to take orders, you are either skipping over the basics or focusing on the wrong thing. Tell him you need his help to get your product (or affiliate system) up and running.

Honestly, if you've spent "tens of thousands" and have all the tools but can't get started ... you need some specific technical help. Once you get a product or service online, and get the selling system in place, you should be able to duplicate the process to add additional items as time goes on.

The same for getting an opt-in system set up, an autoresponder working, and other tasks that are basic. Find someone (a freelancer or even a different mentor) that can get you over the basic hurdles that are stopping you. There's no shame in asking for help ... but sometimes you need to know the right questions to ask and you need to go to the right people for the specific help you need.

Even though you have what you call an "awesome" coach ... you shouldn't be paying him to be awesome ... you should be paying someone that will get you up and running and ensure that you can transact business. If this is not your coach, hire someone who can listen to you and help you where you need it.

    Just my thoughts,

    Steve

Thanks Steve, I find myself wanting to defend my coach here but you are right.
I had bought a list of subscribers before I knew better and got started with setting up my autoresponder messages and links and have it up and running but I'm not getting any results, I know the list is bogus but didn't realize that at the time I purchased it, that was pre coach by the way, he told me the list might not produce anything but thought it would be worth my time to show me how it all worked and setting up campaigns which I have done.
      I appreciate your input.

    Hi Rofish,

One small advice, i came to know that you are not using WordPress from above reply, but in future please go with word-press it has thousands of plugins which can solve your problems easily. If it is a word-press website, i would have done it for you anyway i hope you find a solution ASAP.

I'm not being mean, but maybe one thing you might consider trying is keeping a pad and pen handy, and writing everything down.

      Thanks David,
Not to make an excuse but as I had mentioned originally by the time we get around to the actual lesson (because of issues he is helping me fix from the previous week) there is litterelly about 10 or 15 minutes left for an actual lesson, he goes pretty fast so we can get through the lesson of the day, sometimes i ask him to show me twice if there is time. That said by the time I do the lesson I have had no time to write anything down, then he's gone for another week.
I know it sounds like an excuse but its the reality of the situation.
I just have to figure out a way to retain this information.
Thanks for your input, It is greatly appreciated.

What's ur motto?? You want an Online Biz setup by yourself or you jst want to own something. I know how it feels like doing it all our self.

Why don't you just hire some freelancers or any one from upwork to get all things setup & u manage only them?? This can reduce a lot of pain. Of course you would need to be able manage those people, but if you find right people, it's easy.

Also, can you not record sessions with your coach?? Ask if it is fine, that will help you a lot.

Not sure if you are ... but try to use some tracking tools like Trello. You can jst schedule & make a note of stuff everything that u need & from anywhere. This can help you recollect stuff from where you left off ...can help you save some of that important time.

Also, don't try to handle all projects at once. Plan them appropriately & expect accordingly.

    Rofish,

I can feel your frustration! But, one thing that stands out is a contradiction in what you are saying... At the beginning you say you have been at this "very part time" and at the end you say you "need to make this business work for me and quickly."

To make any business work, it has to be more than a very part-time endeavor. Otherwise, it's just a hobby, and it sounds like an expensive one the way you have approached it.

My best advice is to DEDICATE as much CONSISTENT time as you possibly can. Then, make sure you have a task list of what you need to do to move your business forward. Focus on one task at a time, and don't chase other things or get distracted until you get that one task done, then move on to the next.

Maybe that sounds too downright simple, but as an observer reading what you have described it seems obvious that you need to stick to the simple and the basic until you make the progress you desire.

Find a way to record your sessions with your coach. Ask your coach for a checklist to help you get focused.

As others has suggested, I would also recommend using WordPress as your site platform.

    Hope that's helpful.

Why keep chasing the MMO dream? Seriously thats all it is for the majority, a dream of the online lifestyle...

You seem to be doing pretty well if you can throw away "Tens of thousands". Why not concentrate on your offline business, i promise you will be better off than the majority of people wasting their time online...

I really feel for you. I had a similar experience. IM requires you to be computer literate to a relatively high standard. This is the part that mentors either skip over or ignore altogether. Couldn't even copy and paste when I started so the learning curve was steep.

Now I use youtube for guidance. For tasks I don't/can't do myself I use Fiverr!

    .
Well , imo, you need to record it with video or audio or take meticulous notes during the meetings because that is just a waste of time and money

It seems that you don't have much time to actually focus on building and growing your own online business.

    Here's the truth:

Building an online business is f******* hard, you'll have problems, obstacles, technical difficulties, and people will laugh at you.

Are you ready to take all that and keep moving?

You say you've all the tools to have your own business, but the problem is you should put all those tools together to create something great.

You'll need to follow a system (proven system) that can help you put everything together in a way that makes everything clear and easier.

And it's good that you've a mentor to help you along your journey.

And one last thing, don't be afraid to OUTSOURCE the "technical stuff".

    Hope that helps

    I just keep getting stuck
Of course you get stuck - it's new to you. Your choice when you 'get stuck' is to stop and wait for help. If something isn't working - and you try again - what's the worst that will happen? It wasn't working to begin with so you won't 'break it'. There are paypal buttons all over the internet - that alone should tell you the problem can be solved....so dig in and solve it.

Do a google search for "how to install paypal button" (without the quotes) - and start reading. Don't buy or join anything - watch the videos - read the tutorials....remove what you had and start over as many times as you need to.

As for new members here suggesting you contact them - I'd advise against it. Lot of people here recently trying to promote Fiverr gigs....just sayin...
