A Neat EzineArticles Trick To Get Top Article Views

I've been writing articles for the past few months and I've discovered that one thing makes the difference between a successful article and a flop: the title.

The success of your article is greatly determined by the title of your article, and once you know how to create a winning article title, it's not long until every article you write will be a winner.

Okay so here's a quick example - which article title will you be tempted to read?

-- "How To Make Your Penis 4 Inches Longer"

-- "A Tried And Tested Way To Quickly And Easily Make Your Penis Grow To That Of a Donkey".

I'm guessing you're going to pick the top one... at least I would if I was browsing on EzineArticles for this kind of information. And I know for a fact that most other people will do the same. Why?

It's simple - the title is the gateway to your article and so you need to get it spot on if you're going to make any profit from your article.

There are various ways to do this and here are just some:

  • Make your title concise - talk about specifics
  • Promise some valuable information in the title - not some hyped up ad
  • Keep the article title simple - don't try and go all out to get people to look at it
  • Give them what they want to read
  • Be auhoritive
Here are some of the best types of titles I've been using:

-- "The Best ........................."
-- "An Easy Way To ..............."
-- "How To ..........................."
-- "The Best Way To .............."
-- "Techniques To .................."
-- "Can You Really?.................."

Let me know what you think ^_^

Add the word "expert" in your title and you'll get better views

      Ex:

An Expert Guide-3 Easy Steps To Make Money

An Expert View-Step By Step Tips On Dog Training

Will 2nd that. Both the OP and this one have worked very well for me. In fact I rarely write an article that doesn't follow one of those paths these days.

    Greg,

I think your approach with article titles depends on your niche. IMO in a desparate buyer niche like PE, the hyped title is going to generate more article views than the 1st title. The "4 inches" might catch my eye, but if I have that problem, I'm clicking thru to check out the article offering a "tried and tested" "quickly and easily" way to gain size like a donkey .

I agree. There can't be many people who go to EZA with the express intention of buying something.

Incidentally, a Google keyword search returns 4,400 searches per month for the phrase "make your penis grow" but returns "not enough data" for the phrase "make your penis 4 inches longer".

That suggests that the second example in the OP (even with the donkey) might be the better targeted.

        Greg,

I agree the title is important but then it is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Your first example seemed very run of the mill but the second one put a picture in my mind that would make me want to read on.

Having said that I sure have seen some really crap titles around.

        Cheers

I also believe that the title of an article does play a very important role in grabbing the attention of a visitor.

I'm borrowing a quote from the advertising space--master direct marketer, Ted Nicholas once said:

"Based on hundreds of tests conducted, a good headline can be as much as 17 times more effective than a so-so headline. And this is with exactly the same body copy!"

By the way, here are some templates from my article titles swipe file:

    * The Truth About _____
E.g. The Truth About MindMapping Software

    * The Amazing Secrets of _____
E.g. The Amazing Secrets of Fly Fishing

    * A _____'s Guide to _____
    E.g. A Headhunter's Guide to Effective Interview

    * Cures for _____
E.g. Cures for Excessive Head Sweating

I kindly disagree. You can have the best title with the most tantalizing description but without the right keywords ... it will fizzle. There may be an initial burst but without ranking in the SERPS there is no chance of LONG RUN results, IE: Over 3 months+.

It's all relative. For the average endowed, 4 inches would be compelling. For you, it takes the donkey imagery. It's akin to being a millionaire. Four more dollars just won't do it.

How come all of a sudden I see so many people talking about the title (there was another, kinda similar thread). Is there a new product out there suggesting people that it's all about title? cause it's not. Title can give you competitive advantage but it's certainly not the key to article marketing.

PS: Donkey title is far more appealing than the first one.

Could be because people are buying some article marketing WSO's and dropping hints in the forum.....that is my thought..but I am not accusing the OP in this thread of that..just my thought! (I have seen this technique)

        Hi Grace

Maybe, maybe not... I have no idea. My reply was based purely on experience, not as a marketer, but as a writer. Don't forget, while many IMs spend a lot of time researching strategies, writers also spend time learning from those who have gone before us

As someone already pointed out, a lot depends on the niche you're promoting. For example, there's a huge difference between promoting some dubious penis enlargement program and promoting state-of-the-art equipment required for cardiac surgery. Just an example but it's true.

Take this as you may, but, most articles are aimed at people other than internet marketers. In other words, the average person will almost always click on a simple, straight forward title. Come on guys, do a little research and see for yourselves.

My article marketing efforts have totally been aimed at markets OTHER than Internet Marketing people and the techniques that work on those people work on everyone, it's just you need to hype up the IM material a bit more.

I agree....Having a long article title doesnt mean much.

It sticks out if you are looking through ezinearticles but most people come to an article through the SERPS....

Therefore a concise title with your keyword and a keyword optimised summary are enough for grabbing your potential readers attention.

Remember when someone types in a keyword that word/phrase will appear in bold...
    attracting the browsers attention.

Doesn't mean much isn't the same as doesn't mean anything.

Initially, the longer titles definitely outperform the shorter titles, in my experience. What I've found on my own is the same thing that, say, Jeremy Kelsall found - that longer, more provacative titles work on Ezinearticles.

In the long run, you're going to want most of your traffic to come from SERPs, but that doesn't mean you should ignore the couple of hundred views you can get just from having something on Ezinearticles - that could be another undred bucks in your pocket.

As long as you out the keywords you're targeting first in your title, you should be good to go. Always maximize all possible traffic.

      Hi guys,

I've done extensive research on this and found you need the top keywords in your title as well as a title to make people curious. Here's the process:

      Looking Through Google's Eye's

      1. If you're in a competitive niche you need to make sure you get several clicks once your article is in the EZA "Recent EzineArticles" listing. This is what Google looks at for the most recent and relevant. If it doesn't get a lot of clicks while on this list it'll drop like a stone and never to return. Unless you get it in the......

      Most Published List

      2. If you can get several articles published by other marketers or subscribers (hint, hint) it'll will end up in the most published list and has a greater chance of being clicked on again and again and again. Once on this list, you can then start to build momentum for your articles by building backlinks to them. I only do this with my best performing ones (most clicks) since clicks is what I'm looking for.

      Rinse And Repeat

      3. I simply rinse and repeat. If I find a title that works, I simply think of a few different ways to write the article title until I've exhausted all options.

      Publish At The Right Time

      4. If you publish on a wed or thur your article will be in the "Recent EzineArticles" listing for the weekend. This is when you'll get the most views. I'm not saying that publishing any other time is wrong, I'm just saying that the probability of your article reaching the most viewed list by using this technique is heavily stacked in your favour.

      Get Your Competitior's RSS Feed

      5. Keep an eye on your competitiors (top authors by category) to find out when they post, what they post, what keywords they're using, and how often they submit. You do this by subscribing to the author rss feed. This is your REAL competition and not the odd article posted by another author.

Combine Main Keyword With Online Commercial Intent

The major keyword isn't always a buying keyword, so I combine them with an OCI keyword that delivers. This way I get both traffic and targeted buyers at the same time.

If you're not doing these things it's so easy to bump you off top spot by applying these techniques.

I'm by no means an expert, but I love to analyse the hell out off everything and these are my findings

A good title is just one piece of the puzzle if we're talking about EZA. I've seen "most viewed articles" with really basic titles. This is down to when the article was published and how many backlinks they've built to that article.

Another trick is actually sending your article to you subscribers and asking them to publish it on their blog (gets it into most published). This is seriously powerful since you article has the chance of being included within the description of another article within the Google search results. A strategy often used with YouTube Vids, i.e. ask you subscribers to vote and comment on your video.

It's about teamwork and whitehat (hate that word) techniques that propel your article. I haven't got lots of subscribers so I have to write a shed load of articles unfortunately. However, if you've got a large subscriber base, simply ask them to publish your articles on their blogs and not only will this produce several backlinks you'll also climb up the "most published" list with ease

Hey thanks for all the replies!

There's actually something else which you need to think about as well when doing article marketing. This is just as important as the title - the subject of the article.

If you're writing an article about penis enlargement, you'll naturally get a LOT more views for an article about "how to grow your penis" as opposed to "how to have good sex with a small penis".

What I'm trying to say is that if you are writing about a topic - the subject of your articles is key to making people click on them.

So what you need to do is go and make sure that you're writing about the right stuff before you even come up with your titles. In the iM market, you'll get a lot more views for "A trick to make instant Clickbank sales" rather than "how to make a failing business into a success".

What I always do is go to the Google Keyword Tool and then type in the product type into the search. So if the product is a Home Energy product, type in "Free Energy" or something into the search..... and then see what people are searching for. Then I can find the general ideas that people have about the market, and then write articles to supplement those desires.

In the energy market, I've done some promotion and I've found that people will be much more likely to respond to "How to build your own solar cell" as opposed to "A simple way to power your house off grid". You'll see that people are searching for "build own solar cell" or something, and then just create some articles around that topic.

So that's another port of call - you need to be able to capture people's attention with the subject of your article.

And the subjects that ALWAYS win are the following:

    - Comparions (such as "the best.....")
    - Secret techniques (such as "a sneaky way to....")
    - Tricks ("a trick to.......")
    - Compelling Titles ("how to......... without.........") (E.G "how to make Clickbank sales without spending a dime on advertising").
    - The easiest ("the easiest way to....").

Hope this gives you yet more ideas.
