Need help choosing the correct domain for my blog - here are my options

I have domains wonderfulsuccess dot come and www.hackedliving.com. I am wanting to start a blog about life hacks, self improvement, motivation, etc. Which domain would you choose and why?

If those are your only two options, take the second one. It comes closer to what you describe for your content.

The first one is way too generic. You could use it for anything from potty training to enlightenment through joining a cult.

thanks for the feedback, I like the second one better to but it almost feels like a negative sounding domain. would you recommend a different domain?

Yeah, a lot of people hear 'hack' and they think the worst.

I'd look for something like ShortcutsToBetterLiving or LifeMadeEasier, just off the top of my head. Still descriptive, but without the negative.

French Made Easy, Latin Made Easy, German Made Easy books sold well for a long time.

Life Made Easy dot com might be a good choice.

I don't like the two the OP proposed. The first one because it's too cheerfully optimistic, the other one because I don't want anyone to hack my sites... I know, I know, but that's my first reaction to hack.

Out of these two I would choose hackedliving.com. It just sounds more modern and catchy.

On the other hand, if you can find a shorter domain, you might like having that better. A good resource to find domains is expireddomains.net. You'll find lots of domains deleted and expired that are now available for registration. There are great finds in there, and many times you can snag a good name with existing traffic. Good luck!

  • The first one is much better; the second one is bad. As some have already pointed out, it has negative connotations. It is also awkward phrasing, and is to similar to "life hacker" which is famous.

If I had to choose between the two (and I'm not saying I like either one)... I'd go with the first one.

Wonderful success is a bit generic (as someone already mentioned) but it's also more "timeless."

Right now, "hacked this" and "hacked that" is all the rage. But what happens if a couple years from now, it's no longer a trendy buzzword? Or instead, it means something totally negative? Then, what will you be stuck with?

Words can also mean different things in different regions.

For example: I grew up in the Midwest (USA), where the word "wicked" meant a bad or mean person. I now live in New England, where "wicked" means awesome.

"Wonderful" and "Success" are two words that will more than likely mean the same thing wherever you go, and will still mean the same thing many years from now.

    Craig,

Not to be difficult, but I think you ought to keep looking. Use tools like Lean Domain Search and Impossibility. Focus on the one main keyword you want in your domain that "qualifies" your visitors - type it into the search bar at these sites, and you will find lots of great dot com names that are available.

As others have stated, "wonderfulsuccess" could be related to anything and I believe you ought to be drilling down on self improvement terms. The word "wonderful" is redundant in this instance - "success" suggests reaching your goal and that says it all - is there such a thing as "bad" or "awful" success?

"Hackedliving" could describe Freddy Kruger or any other negative thing that "hacked" represents. I know "hacks" have a different meaning these days . . . but in all honesty, people change their lives for the better by consistent smart effort over time . . . to me "hacks" suggests "tricks" or "shortcuts" (the easy way) which in most instances doesn't result in long term benefits. Just a thought.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

HackedLiving .com doesn't sound negative to me at all - I like it. LifeHacks .org & LifeHacker.com are very popular sites so they sure haven't had an issue with "hack" being in their names.

I think the second one, hackd living, is better, it describes closely about your site content and it's purposes.

I know the decisions has been made but I agree with those that said find a third option.

I've never heard anyone say "wonderful success" in my life. Seems like two random words just put together.

HackedLiving is much different than LifeHacks. LifeHacks seemingly means hacks to use in life; whereas HackedLiving implies living after being hacked.

Gambino that is kinda part of them theme, living after being hacked means benefiting from the life hacks.

    Hi:

hackedliving seems to fit your niche better than the first choice. Ultimately it boils down to how consistent you will be with your blog and how good your content will. And also let's not forget how you will attract people to your blog.

    Good Luck,

      Good choice.

Edit: Anyone know what the over/under is for people choosing one of the first two without reading the rest of the thread?

  • Good, I would go with wonderfulsuccess domain since it sounds motiivated and related to the niche of success, good life, motivation, etc.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[11067978].message }}
  • Hi CraigHill, I think first domain (wonderfulsuccess[dot]com) will suit your website if you want to write about life hacks, self improvement, motivation, etc..
Also you can easily make sub domains on this domain. Like hacks[dot]wonderfulsuccess[dot]com

    motivation[dot]wonderfulsuccess[dot]com

I hope you understand what i want to say...
