Create Backup Site If Main Site Goes Down? On Amazon?

Hi Warriors,

I have an eCommerce website with some critical sales pages. If my site ever goes down or is having issues I want to be able to flip the site over to a live backup version. I don't necessarily need the whole site but I would like to have backup versions of the critical pages at least.

I can simply switch my links over to the first one so I don't have to wait for DNS to change to point to the new site. I'm also not sure if there's an automated way to set this up - but that may be too technical for me anyway.

What do you recommend? If I have to host these backup sales pages that are dormant most of time I don't necessarily want to pay large monthly hosting fees but these pages need to be able to handle a lot of traffic and scale without issues (b/c I do large media buys). So I'm thinking some cloud or amazon solution may be good.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you.

Is this a Wordpress site, static HTML, or something else?

You could try a lifetime hosting plan since you don't want to pay monthly hosting fees. I've seen some good feedback from https://lifetime.hosting/ and I recently also saw this other lifetime hosting plan https://infinicada.com. I don't know how much storage you need, but the first option goes up to 12gb, and the second option goes up to 4. The first one seems to have a 30-day money back guarantee, so you can try that for a month risk-free, and if the other one has a refund policy, I don't see it anywhere on their website. By the way, I am not affiliated with them, I just thought these might be good options for someone in your situation.

I think you're going to be disappointed with any "solution" you come up with, because eCommerce sites typically depend heavily on search engine traffic, rather than a direct response marketing model.

NO solution you set up will automatically change all of the search engine links to your web pages.

Rather than beating your head against the wall trying to provide an alternative location for your site, you should probably focus on how to quickly recreate your site from a backup copy so that downtime is minimized.

Thank you for your response; however, our site and sales rely on 90% direct response marketing. Search engines don't matter much to us. Thank you.

You can use amazon route 53 service. What it does is if your main site goes down the service will automatically detect that and route your visitors to the second ip/server which is where your backup will be located.

When the main site comes back up route 53 will change it back. Also, take a look at a monitoring service such as Alertz that notifies you when your website goes down so that you're aware.

    It is very easy.

Just go to your Wordpress admin dashboard.

Then scroll down all the way until you see the words Tools.

Then select either Import for importing your other domain or PC file Wordpress files into this domain or Export if you want to save your current domain and Wordpress files into your PC file

Here is my diagram to prove my point.

Learn these the hard way when my sites got hacked and have to rebuild them again for the whole of last year.

If you use wordpress, there are plugins that will back it all up,

    I would suggest Updraft Plus.
