So I have a 118 page eBook (guitar)...totally finished & ready to go...Help please?

My account is from 2011! I have been around for a while.


I have a primer for the guitar that will last students from the beginner to advanced stages of practice.


I am absolutely sure that someone here knows what to do.


The book itself is just a PDF, but it is magnificently simple and has been edited on and off over the last 6 years.


This is not some marketer's ebook that they scraped from PLR. I wrote every paragraph of this and damn near destroyed my wrist doing it when I was 21. It's the real deal, I fully and faithfully believe that this would be rated above 4 stars, 4.2~4.5 is basically 5 stars when you factor in little internet trolls that 1 star everything.


That said, I obviously want to cash in on all the months of work I put in on this thing. I have literally thousands of hours of my life etched in these papers, it's worth cash, it's worth cash today and that's what this forum is about still right?


When it comes to eCommerce & digital products though...man, I'm gonna be perfectly honest with ya. I have no idea what I'm doing, where to start, etc. I've been doing content marketing and technical documents.


I know guitarists and the market, but applying those to the internet is a month of work I don't have. I have enough money to pay the bills, feed myself and be mad I lost that $20 bill. No food stamps, no disability for my brain injury, just heart & hard work. Just like always.


But I know in my heart I should be able to get paid for this within a few hours, this is the internet.


What exactly do I do here? I don't have a site or online presence, if I tried to make one I'd probably crash and burn pretty hard.


I was thinking maybe just find people that have skills in the guitar niche and find a free trial that lets me run affiliate offers? I have no idea how to fairly get this thing out there, it could literally be generating income an hour from this post.


I can obviously post pics and give specific people advance copies, that's easy. This is a 6 year account, I want a great reputation.


It's a quality book, I've read a few dozen books on the instrument. This is my life's profession currently as well.


I can post some samples as well as the terrible bigcommerce site I tried to throw together overnight.


More importantly, how would I even find affiliates and price this fairly? I'm thinking $10 is pretty standard, but hey, I'm figuring it all out now.


Would really like some help. I will be available ALL NIGHT, I work like I mean it, and I will check this thread maybe once every 20 or 30 minutes.

I'm looking for direction right now, I'd really love to use this to get some momentum going for private lessons and just be able to do the digital nomad thing for a while. It's been a pipe dream of mine for about 8 years, but the Internet has chewed me up and spit me out more than once.



I remember when I first came here reading about this guy that was homeless because he failed to prepare himself for the dips.


Welp, last year was my year and the IM gods decide I was to be streetbound. I got myself out of all of that by working my ass off with starbucks wifi and content mills, but then I got a brain injury. I've been steady again for about 10 months now. I figure 3 months of crash-and-burn homelessness on an almost 10-year IM journey ain't so bad.



It's sink or swim for me now. I can still play & practice guitar (I get requests from students every town I visit), I can still make great money and I have a rolodex of IM skills that I can tap into and warm back up on.

My point is, I've been through it, I've earned my stripes. I know this book is worth money, I know it's worth money NOW and I dislike anything that gets in the way of NOW money.

100 sales @ 10 bucks is $1k. I estimate this book to be good for anywhere from 100,000-1,000,000 over the span of its lifetime, depending on how well promoted it is. I would obviously rather just tap into affiliates, why would I try to do something than someone who's already been doing it for years...



I just need a little direction! Any advice, suggestions, connections or contacts are seriously seriously seriously appreciated, can't say it enough.

    Why don't you publish this on Kindle and Amazon?

    To start with online sales, in parallel you can create a Facebook Fanpage for Guitar enthusiasts, gain followers for your fan page, give valuable advice on that and also advertise your book on that.
    There can be many many more ways for this - put it on Clickbank for eg, where you can get affiliates selling your product. But for that lot of additional effort will have to be put like creating a very good sales page, etc.
    Starting out small and testing the response to your book is crucial. Later you can scale it up.

      They'll be on kindle/amazon eventually, not my first priority though. Competition is a little higher for this niche there! I'd ideally like to get some momentum first.

      I don't like clickbank, bad experience that almost knocked me on my ass back in the day.

      The book is awesome. 100%, it took me 6 years of hating it to appreciate it. I can hand it to any guitarist with a reasonable reading level and be confident that they will learn something that made it worth the money.

    I wish you the very best with your guitar book and hope you "crush it," so to speak.

    I'm sensing after reading your life story that you need a bit of reality injected into your thinking however.

    First of all, the best place to begin is with the audience for they are the ones that will decide (with their wallets) whether your product is what they want or not. It doesn't matter how sore your wrist is, how many nights you burned the midnight oil to write your masterpiece, or how many months you slaved away. If it's what the audience wants and you make your offer compelling, they will reward you. If not, you might make a few sales here and there but you will be scratching your head as to why the audience doesn't "love your baby" like you do.

    We all fall in love with our own projects - but in the end, it's the audience that matters. "What's in it for me?" is the prospects concern. So I'm telling you this to preface this most important tip -

    Always do market research first before you create your product so you will know exactly what the audience wants.

    So I would ask . . . have you done your market research?

    Have you profiled your perfect customer? Have you asked your audience what they want and how they want it (book, video, audio, private membership site, etc)? Do you know that an ebook is the format they are asking for? Do you know that a long beginner-to-advanced book is what they really want? Do you know where your audience can be found online? Do you know what the competition is offering? Do you know what the best pricing points are? All of these things and others need to be understood as much as possible so you can make your product to fit the mold of what your audience will buy. They will tell you what they want.

    I have no idea what you know about your market and the prospects in it. But if you forego this step or just think you know what the potential buyers want . . . you are just guessing and that's not the way to build a successful product or business. You are not your audience. You need to sell into demand - (extremely important) - not try to create demand based on what you think people want.

    Here's a related tip. Over the past six years you've been working on this you should have been building a subscriber list of people interested in the niche. With a list of people that have raised their hands saying they want to hear from you, you would now have a following that you could immediately sell to. If you have not done this step, you're going to be starting out from scratch - which is OK - but not the best of circumstances compared with having an audience that already knows and trusts you.

    Yes, you need a web site, hosting, a financial transaction mechanism, a way to deliver your product and an autoresponder. You can have these created for you but I would caution you about having "just anyone" do it. Most people don't understand what goes into a great selling web site.

    I know you said you need money now but getting everything set up and working seamlessly usually takes people new to marketing a fair amount of time to get working smoothly. It will help greatly if you have a budget for some paid advertising . . . as it takes time to attract leads through organic search, social media, distributing free content, and lots of other "free" marketing methods.

    You will need a very compelling offer and sales letter. I know there are many, many "learn guitar" products out there so your pitch is going to have to be very special for your ebook to even be noticed. People won't know how great your book is until after they buy it - so it's not going to sell itself until it's reputation for greatness have been established by the public.

    In all sincerity, I wouldn't quit you day job just yet. You can always work nights and weekends while your product is gaining traction in the marketplace. There is no need to "burn the ships" in your case. Don't be foolish because you believe you have a winner. The time to quit your job is after your Internet income surpasses you daytime income for a year or so.

      Long story short, I totally agree with most of what you've said!

      The only points that are irrelevant to me are some of the more basic things...I have been around for almost 10 years, I'm well aware of the simple stuff. I am more interested in specifics of product delivery right now, which I have a sweet lead on now Got an idea, this is gonna be awesome

    It sounds to me like you've got a great business book there that could also bring you additional profit in the form of private lessons. Could you do those private lessons by Skype? If yes, then you can add your Skype ID to the back matter of your book and publish it online to reach a worldwide audience. People can then contact you on Skype to order their private lessons.

    Amazon's Kindle is probably a great start for publishing it if you're in a rush and don't have a lot of upfront money to invest.They have a pretty straightforward publishing process that is free of charge. Just Google it for details. Amazon also has an affiliate program, so that's covered.

    Have you also considered creating a Udemy course based around this .PDF ebook of yours? If yes, then you've got yet another great site to work with where there are plenty of affiliate marketers ready and willing to sell your book/course for a profit.

    You sound like you're in a rush with this which is why I recommend the above two "quick fixes" for you. But if you have more time and are willing to invest a couple thousand dollars, then I strongly recommend you go through a full professional publishing process (e.g., professional editing, design, proofreading, indexing) to ensure the best possible product. Then use a worldwide distributor like Ingram Content to publish and blast that book out to the world ... not just Amazon, but also all the traditional "bricks and mortar" booksellers, too. Everyone.

    If you think this book is worth what you say you think it's worth, then invest the time and money into it. Give it the best shot at success in the sea of others who are taking the quick publishing route. That's my two cents.

    Whatever you do, good luck with your book. I wish you much success with it.

      I'm not necessarily looking for a "quick fix." I'm looking for momentum. I don't want to spend the next 20 hours on something that I can't finish. I want the pieces that make the most sense in place now & I want to start distributing the book immediately to find out any kinks in the line.

    Sorry to be the bearer of reality but there are thousands of ebooks just like yours for sale all over the internet for a few dollars that include MRR.

    Now on to Youtube...and a search for free beginner guitar lessons, free beginner ukelele lessons, free bass lessons, free piano lessons, free moonshine jug lessons, etc.

    I quit promoting guitar lessons almost four years ago because it was no longer profitable.

      I have already been paid for this book since the time of writing this just by messaging a few facebook friends. You, my friend, are delusional.


      Sorry to be the bearer of reality, but there are thousands of ebooks in every common market that are terrible, and people still release great ones that make great money.

      Now onto youtube...keywords. I don't care about keywords. I have original material, I accidentally developed a cult following once (the internet scares me but I could have made a lot of money in hindsight, I was only 23 though, wasn't ready). Youtube is about channel identity, not keywords. SEO nerds do not belong in the context of deeply advanced professionals that have the ability to quickly educate people. SEO is herpes on the face of true human skill so long as it is utilized by the masses for profit instead of delivering significant information. I do not care about "free guitar lessons," I will never tag a video with those, hell, I do not care about KW strategies. I did that already, I don't like it, social is more human. I'd rather just pay people to do the SEO later, SEO is so dry for someone that needs a little thrill in their life.


      I have never "promoted" guitar lessons. Ever. I have 6 students right now at $200/mo each. Promotion is not what does it, musicianship is all that matters. Steve Vai could lose everything, busk for a few days and be better off than most of the planet. I do not mean to downplay your level of performance, but I have almost literally died because I picked the musician's path on more than one occasion. It made me wince to see you say you "quit."

      I'm not promoting guitar lessons, I'm promoting this biological thing I have figured out about the connection between the instrument and the human body. It's different.

    This may be true for some, but after reading this post, I have to doubt that this would be possible for you based on what you've said. I would urge you to devise a plan to get from where you are to where you want to be, realistically.

    First things first, any good sales funnel is going to have more than one product. You mention that it should sell 100,000 to 1,000,000 copies at $10.00 each, possibly. Your typical, simple sales funnel is going to have several elements:

    1. Freebie
    2. Intro product
    3. Upsells
    4. Downsells
    5. High end products

    In simple terms, it comes down to... if someone is willing to give you $10.00, why not ask for $100.00? If someone gives you $100.00, why not ask for $1,000.00? Someone who has given you money, and satisfied with their purchase is probably willing to continue to give you more money. Which means, you can get fewer initial sales and greater profit.

    The second part of that is that very few, if any, super affiliates (the affiliates you want) are going to promote a $10.00 product with no upsells. Think about it from their prospective, it takes time, effort and possibly money for them to send traffic to you... Why would they do that for a $7.50ish commission when they could make much, much more elsewhere?

    The main question that I would have is that does your product match what your target market actually wants? I've never played a guitar but all of the seemingly successful products I've seen have been video training. So, it seems to be a fair question... does your target market want to read a 116 page eBook? I haven't seen it, so I can't say how good it is.

    But, I can say that a popular upsell for digital products is to bundle an infoproduct with video. For example, eBook is $10. Add 5 video lessons for $37 with a one time upsell.

    With all that said... Right now, I think you have one component of a sales funnel. But, it sounds like you have the ability to build out the rest of it. With that said, here's what I would likely do.

    1. Create a freebie: Something like 'Learn these three songs I ____ hours.' in video format and create a landing page to capture emails.
    2. Create a sales page and email autoresponder: Get a cover for your eBook on fiver and create a sales page.
    3. Set up your one time offer: A page that adds an upsell to your eBook, like the video lessons I mentioned earlier.
    4. Set up a back end product that's high end: One hour of personal teaching, for example.

    Once you have that, drive some traffic to your landing page and keep any eye on EVERYTHING. It's all about numbers.

    What percentage of visitors sign up for your freebie?

    What percentage of those buy your intro product?

    What percentage of those buy your one time offer?

    What percentage of those buy your high end offer?

    Then take that information and create a page to recruit affiliates and JV partners. These are the stats that your partners will want to know. They want to know, if they send you 100 visitors, that they'll convert into sales and be somewhat predictable. The more traffic you get, the more predictable everything becomes. Then reach out to others in your market and ask to JV or buy solo ads.

      A lot of that though...I'm still just gonna have a lot of students. I will do that even if I have a bunch of money, so anything that takes up my time is questionable. I'm gathering information so I can kinda strategize my next 250 hours so I don't waste so much time. Most of what you have said has effected my timeline, you've easily had the most influence in this thread on the next month of my life. I might not have experience with digital products but I definitely have experience

    Love your enthusiasm Adam! That will take you far.

    A few things:

    1 - Your eBook sounds awesome. It is good I feel, and your experience and generosity in sharing it is gonna make it pop. Well done. This is the prime step to selling the eBook; selling something super useful.

    2 - Now it's time to think channels. Or to think, where will I sell the eBook to get it in the hands of the right readers? Or, guitar students? A few digital storefronts exist but one trumps all for massive exposure.....Amazon.

    3 - Amazon - your author login site would be KDP Select - is just one of the best places to sell the eBook because they give you access to a worldwide market. Whatever you price it at, the returns of being able to gain huge exposure are well worth any cut Amazon takes.

    Doing a free 1-5 day giveaway helps to boost downloads and reviews, which boost sales after the free giveaway, but then there's another question: where should you share the free giveaway?

    4 - You can advertise on Warrior of course (WSO). This could help boost sales in the long run. But in addition to that, the 1 thing I advise you do for lasting, ever increasing, big money sales, is to start a self-hosted Wordpress blog to begin building your authority.

    You are thinking big. Awesome. I am with you. But part of thinking big is getting beyond a daily earnings mindset, and to start thinking about building your name and brand and reputation so you can make some sales now, and more sales next month, and 10 times as many sales in 2 years, and so on, and so on.

    It requires patience to make a steady income online. More than that, it requires positioning. Starting your own WP blog and sharing free, helpful tips, over the course of months and years, is a fundamental way to build something lasting, and super profitable, so the sales are not the flash in a pan variety that cripple most internet marketers.

    5 - As you blog, you will be building an email list too. Gold resides in your list when folks sign up based on the helpful content you share. Because they dig your free content and will buy your premium content, aka, eBook.

    6 - This all takes work, learning, blood, sweat, tears, and yes, it's another project to add to the list. But this is the way to earning not 500 bucks or 1000 bucks with your eBook, but earning the bigger numbers you aim for, and that earning happens over years and years and years.

    Since you plan on sticking around for years, may as well do it right, and boost those earnings steadily over the long haul.

    As for blogging information, plenty of good info here on Warrior.

    You are obviously serious, and you are willing to do a hard work.
    1. I suggest to change book price - you said it is a hi-quality book - so make it $89;
    with $10 price you will attract wrong customers (the ones that want to learn to play like Carlos Santana in 2 hours).
    2. Use Amazon, serious people use big commerce sites.
    3. Make audio version of your book, and find self publishing company to make hard copy.
    4. Find websites who offer similar products (I use service similarsites.com) and try to buy some ad space there, or contact them and offer 50% affiliate commission.
    If you start doing just these 4 things, you will start making some money.

        You guys can't even physically pose the math before me that makes this delusional. It is rational. You can sell 3 copies of a product per hour if it should reasonably sell 100k copies in its lifetime. The initial stages are the easiest, you dig for the harder oil to find later.


        That said, no I would never pay $90 for this lol, I'm sure there are people that would, but I would be creating a barrier between the info and the people I want to have it

          I make a living off books. You know how I do it? By having 15 pennames and 170+ books on Amazon.

          You want to know something really sad...

          I have a book, that Amazon has slapped a "bestseller" tag onto the listing. Sounds good, until you look at HOW it got there.

          How did it get there? By selling 14 copies in 12 months. That's 1 copy per month +2.

          I looked at the top 100 list for that category, made note of the 99 books ranked lower then mine and checked the sales rank against mine... most of them are average 1 to 5 sales PER YEAR.

          And it's a Romance category. One of the many hundreds of sub-categories with-in the Romance category.

          Don't be deceived by "best seller" tags Amazon slaps on books. It don't mean squat. All it means I sold 14 copies last year and the author in #2 place only sold 10 copies.

          Yes, 3 copies per hour is possible, if you're 50 Shades of Gray, Harry Potter, Stephen King, or Depek Choppa...

          The reality is, while in theory it is POSSIBLE to sell 3 copies an hour, the reality is 3 books a week, month, or even year, are far more plausible.

          When I first started putting my books on Kindle (2010), I marketed the hell out of them. It moved a few books fast, because I got them in front of the right people... but... the amount of time it took to market aggressively enough to make enough sales to live off of just a few books, took away too much time from my writing. So in the end, it became more viable to just keep writing and publishing more titles and not market any of them.

          I started out like you... exact same way... then I realized, I write a niche topic. Not a lot of demand for it. Once I did the demographics research into my niche, I found something very disturbing... while I dreamed of selling millions of copies, the reality was the topic in question, was only showing about 7,000 active readers/users/fans world wide.

          I took that and looked at my sales... most of my books sell 1,000 copies the first few days. A few hundred more copies the next few months. After 6 months, 1 to 4 copies a week is pretty average for my "best" sellers and 1 or 2 every 3 or 4 months average for my "worst" sellers. Around holidays I see a few spikes. Halloween, ThanksGiving, Christmas, and one week in August, I see each book suddenly get 100 to 400 says in a single day, then next day, back to the 1 to 2 a month slog.

          In the end, after 5 years, each volume will have sold 1,500 to 3,000 copies, a couple making it to 7,000 copies, but the majority saw sales almost dry up at the 3,000 sales point.

          I talked to a few dozen other authors in my niche and, they reported the same sort of results.

          The only thing that helped any of them increase says, was to change topics and write a different (more popular) niche.

          Now... I know nothing about your niche (guitars) so can't comment on it directly, but I do have to ask, how popular is the topic of guitars? Are there ENOUGH guitar players (and wanna bes) out there to realistically see 3 sales per hour? Guitar is a pretty niche hobby, isn't it? Almost no one does it.

          You want to sell a million copies, but, you really have to ask yourself, are there even a million people on the planet who play guitar? Let's say there are enough people out their in the hobby to result in a million sales... are they ALL going to buy a book? Most people I've known who played guitar got lessons from a local teacher. Hands on learning - didn't use a book.

          Like I said, I don't know the niche of guitars, so I don't know how many people there are in the hobby. But those are the kinds of questions you have to ask.

          Yes, the goal of a million sales is great, and you can certainly do it with enough marketing to the right audience, I just think it's gonna take a lot longer then you think. I think 3 sales a day, you could probably reach with out too much trouble, but I think 3 sales an hour would require you to be Slash or Bon Jovi.

    We have all seen the numerous success stories about people quitting their jobs and making a full time income from home, but for some reason we just can't seem to figure out what they are doing! Let me be the first to say I've been there, but it is possible to actually make money online if you know what you are doing!

    Lets get one thing straight before I start giving away all of the tricks of the trade...making money online is not as easy as people make it seem. Everyone just shows you the end result without teaching you how they got there! If you stick around i'll give you a few tips and tricks that you can follow to make money online!

    Step ONE to make money: Pick a strategy that you want to follow to make money!

    You can become an affiliate marketer, you can post youtube videos, or you could even sell a product of your own, but the first thing you have to do is pick ONE way that you are going to make money online.

    Step TWO to make money online: Do Research on the strategy you picked

    Step THREE to make money online: Create a blog or a youtube channel

    This is a very important step because without an audience you wont be able to make any money! The amount of people you can get to click your links or listen to your information is highly dependent on the exposure you get! Of course there are other ways to get an audience like creating a website or a facebook group, but for this post I want to follow the easiest steps to make money!

    The Final Step; Step 4: Create High Quality Content That Provides Value

    Once you start getting traffic to your blog or youtube channel it is going to be important that you have high quality content in order to keep getting your viewers coming back for more! People can tell when you are just spamming links, or just putting in no effort in your videos! This is the last thing you want because you took all the time and effort to get people to see your content only to lose the viewer after one video!


    In short you must pick a strategy to make money online, then do research about that money making topic! After you complete those steps you need to create a platform to reach your audience, and the final step is creating quality content! If you follow these four steps it is completely possible to make a full time income online!

    I would suggest you to start selling your own course on Udemy, as well as start a blog by buying a domain name and hosting so that you can place blogs related to guitar lessons right there, while offering basics as giveaways and giving advanced things for a paid membership...this way you have two simultaneous ways to earn...

    Congratulations on writing what sounds like an excellent e-book. Obviously put a lot of time and effort into the project. I have no doubt that your product would help a lot of people. I was reading over some of the responses to your post and am a little disturbed. With regard to marketing your product, there are many avenues to approach. I've seen people recommend Amazon, Kindle, You Tube and other marketing methods.

    At the end of the day, its all about what type of business you want to build. If you are looking to make a quick buck...then yes...follow some of the recommendations presented. However, if your looking to build a business...then consider doing things the right way. Build an audience, build trust and build your list.

    Given a topic such as yours, I would recommend a You tube channel with several videos demonstrating you "know your stuff" It would be nice to rank in a specific term on You Tube but not necessary.

    You need a website...end of story. You need an opt in page to build your list. You need to demonstrate value first...your unique selling position USP. Consider turning your PDF book into a course. Break it down into chapters, with videos, helpful cheat sheets, and other "value added aspects.

    Your type of product would be best served by promotion on your own site...other related sites and forums and perhaps listed as a click bank product.

    Don't try to do this all yourself ...seek the help of someone who knows how to do these things. For God Sakes...its time to STOP writing the book...and get a return on your investment. Follow a logical plan to execution.

    i think with targeting and social media...

    1) do a test with VIDEO ads youtube.

    2) Do scaling and testing with FB video ads - very cheap.

    Then do a test elsewhere, pick the best on and run with that.

    Lots of testing involved, but its the best way to get your foot in the door and making $200 a day fast profit.

    Ok - so the reality is that to sell large volumes (even if it is the greatest guitar training book on the planet) you need to get it in front of the mass market who want guitar training products.

    How?

    Since search is being used less and less these days (especially when it comes to products like these), that leaves YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Amazon and partners/affiliates who already have established lists.

    Now here's the TRUTH...to break through on any of these platforms you either have to be a top personality in your field (the slow and steady way - but only room for the MOST dynamic personalities) OR you have to master paid advertising which means you typically have to be bringing in more than ~ $40-~$45 per customer and have good conversion rates to even make that work (otherwise you lose money advertising).

    So what does THAT mean?

    It means that ebooks are books are increasingly the gateway drug to upsells (book bundles, video programs, coaching, lessons, private coach, etc...) - unfortunately that is the reality of the internet today.

    The once exception is partner traffic - but again the challenge there will be largely how much money the partner can make from your offer - with a $15 ebook or book - unfortunately, the answer is not very much and so you won't get them mass marketing for you.

    The reality is you want to use this product (that you put so much work into) as a main leverage point to get you a buyers list who will then by the next product or service from you getting you into a higher revenue per customer so you can, in-turn, go after much bigger audiences and get the momentum AND profit you are looking for.

    Nobody....but nobody........ is making money with a 'learn guitar' ebook.

    Even if the book is great [and I don't disbelieve you on that] you need to have a re-think. You COULD use the book as a temptation to engage with potential customers for guitar products. I really doubt you'll make any decent money just trying to sell it.

    Selling for a few dollars is such a waste. I'm still trying to get my head around why people are selling these for such a small value. I just bought a paleo e-cookbook for $50, so i believe people are willing to pay a higher price.

    Im wondering if the platforms people are selling on are what pushes the value down? Or is there just too much competition?

      20 Years ago lots and lots of people were making fortunes selling porn online.
      Today the vast majority went bust or just quit.....I'm sure I don't need to explain why!

      Your book is in a market that has evolved in the same way. Everyone who can play three chords has decided to become an internet guitar teacher and there is an abundance of 'guitar books' for free.

      It is a market I know intimately and you'll just waste your life away trying to sell your book.

      If it is as good as you say then use it as bait for other affiliate products......having said that, there are very few truly great affiliate products around for the reasons mentioned above.

      The brutal truth....drop it and go do something else.
