I want to make big money like this guy made 2 million - is it possible blogging?

This story is very inspiring for me because I am just starting out trying to make money online. It's seems so hard to get a handle on it.

To the experience Warriors I have a question. In his post Suicidal Debt To Wealth he says he started blogging in the late 1990s. Is it possible to get rich blogging over time in 2017? Or is he just lucky to have started long ago.

I so badly want to make it big and work from home.

Yes it's possible but that guy writes in the finance niche and he writes well. You have to make sure your niche pays well and you need to write your ass off.

But yes it can be done. Don't forget this took him 12 years to earn - that's 15K a month average.

Good 12 year point TZ. And that was to get 15 K a month.

Another note; most of us have so many fears around money that this process of prospering takes years. But if you dive into REALLY deep fears on a daily basis, working despite your deepest terrors, you cut your money making learning curve quickly. Almost all human beings avoid their deepest fears regularly - including me, though I am improving in their area - but goodness, the few who don't grow like weeds.

Look at a guy like Tim Ferriss. He does the most uncomfortable things habitually when most do those types of things once a month, or maybe, once yearly, or never. This is why he hacks stuff in weeks while most folks take months to develop skills.

Not that we are in a hurry; just sharing the types of bold steps for the OP to take, to help leverage their presence.

Agree. I've read lots of his blog posts and his approach is always in-depth and he gets his point(s) across effectively.

Of course nobody is competing for that exact phrase!!! The point is the phrase is just a handful of words with no details like location, model numbers, etc. but it's in the top.

It's in the 'top' because no one is competing for the phrase.....

No one is competing for the phrase....

Because no one is searching for the phrase.

And the same is likely to be true a year from now.

If you ask these kind of questions you really have a very, very long path ahead of you.

Internet businesses (in terms of "solopreneurs") are a lot about thinking out of the box and 100% self-reliant work. Since you have direct competition all over the globe (since anyone can start an online business) it is actually HARDER than making money offline.

The great thing about the internet though is that it is way EASIER to make a lot of money compared to the corporate world, because if you have a business that you are able to scale or that suddenly takes off, it has a tremendous multiplier and leverage. However, you should acquire some skills (sales, coding, designing, copywriting, whatever) first and outline what you want to do. "Internet business" is not a category by itself, so think about a possible business you see potential in and work on it continously.

After reading Kay's post, I skipped the link.

Yes, it's still possible to make a full time living online. There are too many people doing it in too many strange markets for anybody to claim otherwise.

      Can you do it?

      No clue.

But here's a word of advice. If someone tells you to pick a "niche" like health, finance or relationships, take the advice, and anything else they tell you, with a huge handful of salt.

The best way for a newbie to succeed while learning the ropes is in one of the small, weird niches. How weird?

      > Frank Kern started in the "teach your parrot to talk" niche.
      > Dr. Glenn Livingston started in the "how to care for your guinea pig" niche.
      > Ryan Levesque started in the "making Scrabble tile jewelry" niche.

I could go on, but you sound like you're smart enough to get the idea.

When you start doesn't matter at all. It's no different than
its ever been. If you're going to develop a large market share
you have to deliver LOTS of quality content. It' damn hard
and will likely take years to develop the skills if you don't already
      have them.

It's not a 'story' - it's a sales page. The site is 2 years old and is selling debt consolidation. There are NO names associated with the site that I could find - no expert with degrees or experience - but the site claims "Dave Ramsey is wrong about debt".

Did you fill out the questionnaires and send your bank name, your income, your list of debts and who they are owed to ....to a total stranger online?

Do you believe he didn't know his earnings for 12 years and was shocked??? Ever hear of the IRS? You know what your income is.

How could anyone here guess whether you can make money online or not? You haven't listed any experience or training or skills or goals or niches - just a desire to earn big bucks.

The internet is not too crowded - but you have to earn your money working online just as you do working offline.

Well of course he's selling debt consolidation. That's how he has made his money all these years. His affiliate link is right at the top of the FN page.

I wouldn't be surprised he banked that either because the payouts in that niche are huge.

I always find it hilarious when Internet marketers are disgusted with other Internet marketers blatant self promotion. Hypocrisy anyone.

Kay - you are an experienced Internet marketer so you can sniff a sales post from a mile away - and so can any of us with experience.

On second reading I noticed that the post is at least 2000 words and a lot of images. The type of post Google loves. He's probably been at this quite awhile.

The page ranks #28 for one of it's main keywords (debt reversal in lansing michigan)... and that's a longtail keyword with no other site on the internet targeting that exact phrase (nobody).

Ranks #15 for debt settlement relief in newark nj.

Again, nobody is targeting these exact longtail keywords and the OP site/link still doesn't rank on Google SERPs.

The site sucks. Typical desperate affiliate site.

Yukon's been glue sniffing again. The post in question doesn't target any keywords of importance. It's choice of title is terrible if it's actually targeting a long-tail. Just a sad attempt at linkbait.

Try searching "warning the bitch will bankrupt you"

Looks like some posts they're not even attempting to hit a longtail. Just linkbait.

You're on both sides of the fence.

First you brag about the site and Google, now excuses why it doesn't rank for anything.

              Ok Yuky,

Let's go with your take on long tail targeting. if you want to judge how G feels about the site you need to search the title.

              So search this:

suicidal debt to wealth reversal plan

Now we see how the site is doing.

Ha, ha, you're the first person on earth to ever search that phrase.

If someone is suicidal WTF do they care about debt? Hilarious. Pinterest doesn't even care about the zero traffic keyword and they still outrank them.

Nice try, no soup for you.

Doesn't matter who searches it. It's just a test.

It's in the top three twice with over 4 million competing pages, and in a few months Pinterest will be lower. The original domain of the post will rise later down the road. Don't forget the post is only a week or so old.

My point being....Google likes the site.

There are not 4 million competing pages. There are zero other competing pages. Nobody is trying to rank for that term.

The number or results in the index has nothing to do with the level of competition.

Ranking for something doesn't mean anyone is searching for it. That page could rank #1 for that term for the next decade and still get zero traffic from it because nobody searches for that term.

No, that's not how Google Search works.

There's not 4 million competing pages, there's not even one competing page. There's 210 pages indexed but none are competing for the exact keyword.

Anyone could outrank that keyword and not even care, exactly like Pinterest is doing right now.

Again, the keyword is retarded, no suicidal person is searching Google for debt relief. Nobody gives a shit about leaving this world with good credit.

Are you an expert in the finance niche? Can you actually give me
financial advice that I should follow?

Do what you know to start out. If you don't know that niche well
enough to compete with the bona fide experts who offer financial
advice for free it will not be a high paying niche for you.

I'd not pick any niche based on believing the niche will make you money

What do you love doing? Start there. Then, research the niche a bit, think of creative ways you could help folks, and slowly learn from the best folks in the niche.

Neil Patel would be an awesome blogger to follow if you're vibing with building a blog. I'd strongly suggest following him and some other bloggers who have been doing the online bit for a while, successfully...like......

    Yes Paul it is possible.

But one problem exists that will make this story impossible for you to live: the bloggers who make millions almost always pick a driver different than money. They blog to make a difference. They blog to serve. Money is like 1/100th of why they blog. Seriously.

Then, as they devote 99% of their energies to giving the money flows in. Millions, or whatever. But they are not desperate to make money. They are focused on helping people, learning their craft, serving, staying up until 2 AM to write the latest post or to guest post or to help folks on Warrior or to respond to email or to comment on blogs. They stay up late and wake early for months, when they happen to be making zero dollars online.

Most folks use money as a driver then, when the zero figure stares at them over weeks, and months, they quit. Tough to make millions when you devote more than a few % of your energy to making money. But when you focus on serving, you make hundreds, then thousands, and you set the framework for building a profitable blog, which can set you up for something really special.

Yes it is possible to make money but as already advised your motivation needs to be more than money, if your drive is money it will come across in your message and that will drive people away.

You need to pick something you are passionate about and find what problems people are having within that niche and write about that, that will get people to read and as long as you have something valuable to give away as a lead magnet, you could get a high op-tin rate.

Everything you do is all about providing value, people will not buy from you unless they are getting value so make this your main focus and the money will soon follow.

My advice is look up a guy named Ray Higdon, he started his business blogging and he's one f the most successful bloggers out there.

All the best but most important thing is provide value, don't be in a rush to make money, that will come as long as you serve the people in your market.

No, there is nothing with it.

But you need a group of people who like you, listen to you, supported you and most importantly TRUSTED you so that they will buy whatever you recommend.

If you look at all the successful gurus like Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Eben Pagan and Mike Filsaime, they all have groups of people they can inspire and recommend their products and services -

As well as people they listened and learn from.

Secondly, your product or service needs to be of great value to most people whom you have in your group.

It can be an internet marketing course, coaching or DFY or Done-For-You Services.

Most people - including me when I got started - ONLY think of making $.

Without realizing that in order to make that $, they need to learn how to give and deliver value to one another first.

Before earning the right to whatever amount they can dream of.

I remember a while back, Perry Belcher from Digital Marketer asked an audience how much they though an average blogger made per day and gave them a choice of dollar values to choose. They were all wrong and he went on to say that the average blogger makes about $3 per day.

If you want to make money online, learn how to cost effectively drive traffic / build email lists. Because it makes no difference what you are promoting, without traffic you are never going to make any money.

I get the pick what you are passionate about as far as what your niche should be. However, you better make sure it is monetizable and you have a viable plan to do it. Also, there is nothing wrong with simply being passionate about marketing.

My preference is to promote PPL(pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

While that blog that you found was really just attempting to generate debt consolidation leads. It was a really poor example of how to do it and I can't imagine they are generating many leads.

The majority of people who earn a living online do not have a "tribe" of sycophants hanging on their every utterance. Nor do they want one.

The Internet is absolutely not too crowded for intelligent, creative, dedicated people to build profitable businesses fairly quickly.

The problem for me is people focusing on striking it rich straight away, listen.

The thing you do now will not be the thing that gets you to be a millionaire, it will merely be a stepping stone along the way.

Learn each lesson as it comes and embrace this new direction and go at it with everything you have because getting started will e the hardest thing.

Once you have done it consistently for a few weeks you will have momentum and can then perhaps reach out to people to do guest blogging to give you a bigger reach.

Neil Patel is definitely someone to follow, I had the pleasure of meeting Neil a couple of years ago and he is an amazing guy and really knows his stuff.

As mentioned before another good blogger to follow is Ray Higdon.

Good luck but most importantly, get started and keep moving, stay consistent and never lose faith.

    You will get there.

I've always contended that making money blogging is probably one of the hardest avenues.
Blog is a great compliment to an overall campaign, but to have it as it is, tip of the spear... I don't know... long process with questionable pay-off.

If you do it on the side, and if it starts picking up, then yeah, great go for it.

But to single-mindedly make it your mission to make money blogging.. I don't know.

Let's say you write a bunch of content, and it's awesome and people love it. Well you put it on your blog, right?

But what if you packaged that content another way? As an ebook/gift for a splash page to get the email?

Then you take the content that drew in visitors and leads, and maybe upgrade it to video, or audio.

Or what if you came up with a great facebook page centered around the meat of the content?

      What about viral videos?

      Pinterest? etc.

Then maybe you find an expert in the field, and you create an interview style product with a few of them, and sell that to your list.

Or how about creating a viral share page with it?

Then what? you want blog subscriber or emails? More people read email than blogs.

I suppose you could be blogging as your emailing your list.

But blogging as the only thing you do, to build your list? I don't know.

It's rare, is what I'm saying. Whereas the same effort placed in some basic direct marketing via email, or social media, going for the conversion, making sales, has a much higher success rate to anybody who actually does it.

Take your blog content and make a product, that's my advice.

Or be aware of doing both.

I disagree with the consensus that you need to love what you are blogging about. When I started I focused on the high paying niches ONLY because I was out to make money. Didn't care about being a guru or helpful at all.

I just wanted to work from home full time and would have blogged about tiddly winks if that is what paid the most. I blogged about motorcycle loans and insurance (still do). They both pay really well. Not because I like motorcycles, insurance, or finance. I couldn't care less about any of it.

But I loved typing on a keyboard, and I loved creative writing. Took typing and classes in high school. It was great being the only guy in the typing class. Better ratio ;-) They the old clackity clack electric typewriters. Hated them.

So I found ways to be creative when writing about BORING stuff that made the most money. One of our affiliate programs pays $20 anytime a visitor on our site fills in their email, name, and phone number. As a result we've had the biggest years of our Internet career. $220,000 last year, less this year. Always up and down.

And the boring subjects stopped being boring when the money started rolling in and eventually I learned to love writing on almost any subject as long as it paid.

And the master stroke for us was LONG TAIL. Without long tail we would have jack sh#t for income. So if you are going to blog make sure you do it on extremely lucrative niches and write long detailed posts on long tail targets. If you do that you don't need to beg for links or suck up to any gurus. Google will rank you - don't worry about it.

As far as links go - screw it. Just write bigly content, images, videos, etc., and make your links by linking your content from post to post. Yep - those are dofollow perfect links in your own text. Google gives your long form detailed posts a high score so when you link to your own internal pages that juice starts to add up. THEN others eventually start linking.

My motorcycle niche site has over 8000 links inbound now and I never begged for a single one of them. Lots of those links are crap but I never remove them. I just completely ignore linking.

Unless you are, as Terry said, an expert in the financial topics your audience wants to learn, or you have the kind of zeal for creative approaches to boring topics that TZ has, you should probably avoid the "finance niche".

Go back up and read my first post again. Even the marketer you linked in your first post isn't in the so-called "finance niche" - he's in a subset or sub-niche of that, debt consolidation. A little research would probably reveal that he actually targets a subset of that niche.

if you want to do well, write blog posts each day SEO it, but Seo is waist of time there days. PAID TRAFFIC is where its at.

If you do not have any funds, you can always do guest posts, drive traffic to your blog and at the end of your blog posts put in an optin form, so you are generically getting traffic and building a list at the same time.

    That would mean

    1) Your getitng sales from people hitting you from google.

    2) You are getting sales from building your list.

And then when you are making money use 50% of that money and hire a team to leverage some of your work.

This is what I did, I went from $0 broke ass whitey, to making over $500 USD per day.

The clues are in what others who are successful do.

    1) Make money

    2) Use that money to make more money
    .
    3) go back and repeat steps 1 and 2 again.

Here is the real deal with blogging and other IM paths.

You are paid in direct proportion to the value you provide the people on your list.

Read that as many times as need be until it becomes part of you.

Build a blog, build a list and provide that audience real value.

When you do that, yes, it's possible.

I didn't say it would be easy. I said possible.

Paul, I do have one blunt advice for you.

Don't just think of making money.

Think about what you can share and help others as well.

Because at the end of the day, you need to understand that people don't just buy from people.

They buy from those they can reasonate with or see a great value in the products and services offered to them.

    I also blog.

But I never blog just to make money.

Or trying to model others I am not.

It does not work that way.

    It never will.

What you need is to find out what you are good at and how you can help people based on that.

Try to get to know more people.

Not just online through forums and FB groups.

But offline as well through live events such as seminar previews and social networking in sites like Meetup.

Because it is through knowing and networking with more people in your niche, you get a much better understanding of what challenges they faced and how or what you can do to help them.

I think people need to stop thinking that blogging (in itself) is an effective medium.

Today, there is so much content that exists (just do a google search), that creating more has little effect.

You need to be able to drive traffic and offer actionable info over generic content.

    Just my 2 cents.

its about your MENTALITY, if you can see it in your mind, you can hold the money in your hand.
