How can a poor english speaking guy do internet marketing in US?

Hi,
I came from China 20 years ago,When I came to this country only with $100.00 cash in my pocket and with a lot of debt left in my country, because at that time I were very poor and couldn't afford a flight fare to US,so I bought a lot of money from my family, my relatives, friends,at that time one usd exchange for 10 yuan.and I only could say hi,how are you,I didn't even know the sequence difference between chinese last first name and english last first name...

Because at that time I was too poor in my wealth and my english,so I could not afford to go to school,so I had to go to Chinese restaurants to do dishwashing jobs to make money and save money,I worked 14 hours a day and 7 days a week,At that time,A dishwasher only could get paid around $700-$1000 a month,At the same time at my spare time I learned English by myself through English tape play machine. After 2 years' chinese restaurant working day and night,I accumulated around $10,000 by saving every penny and my English improved a lot,I applied to CS master degree study, and I got my master degree in cs...

Now I can read and write regular english, because my teacher basically is google, english tape play machine and dictionary,My english grammar is not bad, because english grammar is very logical...You can feel my english is very formal and bookish.now I don't know why the simpler words american people use in their conversation, the harder for me to understand...but I can not speak fluent English.

Now I see so many people make money online, speaking very good english, and most of them coming from original english speaking countries.Everybody is so speakable,so talkative...It is really put me in a very disadvantageous situation:no competitive at all.Because I feel if I move to higher level in IM level, I have to use good english to do webniar, yourbute videos, sales copywriting..,how can I prepare for future is my big problem...

Could anybody give me some good hints on how to use my advantage and to avoid my disadvantage to survive in this very competitive IM market.

Your advice would be highly appreciated in advance! Have a nice day!

There's many language speaking practice resources on line.

Type English speaking practice in a search engine.

On the other hand your "excuse" of because you are not speaking good English you are doomed to fail, is not a good excuse at all.

I know personally several folks from South East Asia who are making tons of cash from US clients.

NO! Most of them are millionaires selling high quality PLR content packages to the masses, I know several of them personally. Search for Edmund Loh, Ian Del Carmen, Aurelius Tjin, Nelson Tang, Patric Chan, Henry Gold and many more...

The English conversation courses are considered expensive regarding our currency, I tried the free courses but the problem is that there are different people from all over the world and sometimes I can't understand some accents.

One advantage of the internet is that it's global - what you might read about in IM circles is just a tiny fraction of the online world. To start with, why not try marketing to a Chinese clientele while you're improving your English?

Or set up a partnership with a US native to act as a middleman between US and Chinese businesses. Lots of opportunites to turn your so-called "disadvantage" into a benefit.

Yep, this was my first thought as well. You seem to have somewhat embraced the Englsh enough where you could offer Services to translate or maybe create Courses for people of Chinese decent wanting to improve their English. Just keep working on that English, you're doing well

    Hi there matey.

For me it's obvious what to do. When it comes to Internet Marketing it all comes down to providing people with solutions with problems.

Your problem was you immigrated to America from china, you didnt speak any english.

In 2013, over 2 million chinese people immigrated to America.

    Source: http://www.migrationpolicy.org/artic...-united-states

That's an audience you could help! And it will grow year on year.

If I was you I would start a website and write tutorials that will help a new chinese immigrant. Write posts helping with tips to find work, explain the benefits system to them etc etc.

Then you could talk about the importance of learning english, and promote online language courses to them.

Best thing is you dont even have to speak english, just chinese

Provide service to your own people in US. Create something like "Ask Me How" to help your people understanding how to live in US today. Make it a membership site and you will make good profit and good name for your self. And like the above post... you don't need to talk good English to your own people from China. Good luck!

Well. You can learn to be a Youtuber for your Chinese society in US. Just sell your story from 20 years ago until today. You have a lot of good and bad stories for being a US Chinese. And I'm sure you can entertain your people with those stories. And you of course can start to sell something as affiliate on your own channel. And again... you don't need to talk in English for that. Youtube is free. Just need a simple and cheap smartphone to record yourself in video. Good luck!

PS: Oh... you can also start the same idea with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Seems like you're lacking a plan. First, come up with a plan, exactly what you want to do, how you want to do it and how you're going to do it, make a list of everything you need to make your idea work. ONLY THEN start spending money, otherwise, you'll go broke before you manage to set up a proper website(exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea).

As for your English, you could always look to help the fellow Chinese, then you don't need it as much, if at all... Otherwise, you can always hire someone to proofread your website, although this would cost you a lot so don't do it until you have a website and everything else set up.

If you're worried about grammar and stuff like that, it shouldn't be a big problem.

First of all, the owner of one of the most popular products on Clickbank in the IM niche is from Malaysia and the English in his emails and ebooks are sometimes not very accurate, but he still makes tons of money.

In addition, you can always get a native English writer to edit your stuff for very cheap, because all they have to do is correct the grammar.

My wife is Chinese so there is so much you can do.

    Look at becoming a daigou.

You can leverage WiChat and Weibo

There is a huge business in buying product and sending it back to China.

You can act as an agent and make some good money.

Here is a link to a good article and there are plenty of other examples.--->
    https://www.businessinsider.com.au/m...hina-2016-6#x1

    Another example--->
Weet-bix prices in China: why they're spending $50 a box

Don't think so much about what IM products people are making here.

Leverage your position, knowledge and language.

    Best regards,

To be honest you don't even need to speak english to succeed in the IM market, I know of several people making 6 figures that have terrible english. Don't get me wrong it's definitely an advantage to be abel to speak good English. However don't let that stop you. In your case I would focus on using platforms that don't require you to speak english well. For example. You can make money online as an affiliate selling other peoples products. you can use Facebook to create fan pages or run ads, Instagram to create an account promoting something and use shoutouts to drive traffic. solo ads and banner advertising... bing ads.. all of these methods fro making money online don't require you to speak english.

  • Let me tell you that English may be the universal language but in the IM world, you can do IM even if you do not speak English well. Like what others here said, you may do a local website or you may also outsource your content if you want to have a website or market a product in English.

Frankly, I can`t say that you don`t have to speak English in order to do internet marketing ( like others said to you here). The vast majority of online buyers from counties who speak English, so you need to speak and understand English very well.
So I recommend you to check effortlessenglishclub dot com , this will help you to speak English fluently and effortlessly (like a native speakers).

I would like to say that you did a great job putting this post on one of the best internet marketing forums and getting your message across. Saying that, you are more effective at communicating in a language that is not your first language than you think. I suggest you start by believing in yourself and your abilities. When you first put yourself out there in the marketing world it is not instantly necessary to start plugging everywhere with youtube videos and the like. Start slowly build the momentum, the daily interaction with followers will allow you to practice your language skills, I have no doubt that you will also pick up many followers from your country of origin. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, THE REST WILL FOLLOW . NAMASTE

you can buy a resale right of an ebook/video from clickbank or other products and market to 2 billion Chinese people, you should make $1 million or more daily by just selling to Chinese market. I say approach to a clickbank vendor and buy resale rights of the product and sell that product to the Chinese market. Obviously you'll need to translate the product into Chinese, you can find some decent bilingual Chinese/English speaker for $500. Now you can sell that product via clickbank through facebook or put some ads in Chinese social media sites.

I love your sentence "while sexing beach with beauties" - that pretty much says it all about the gurus .

I don't have any great tips for you but I want to say I think you are thinking the right way about language being a barrier. I am a language professional and I will tell you for a fact that the large majority of non-natives cannot write good English - hell, 90% of NATIVE English people can't.So many people try to get into IM with non-native English, and the content they produce is just not good enough

So definitely explore options other than content-based marketing, I think there have been a few good suggestions in this thread.

To clarify my comments earlier, I am involved in the language profession on a daily basis, I am a qualified English teacher too, and I can categorically say that it is an extremely long and difficult task for a non-native speaker to achieve complete written fluency/accuracy in English, especially as an adult. In fact most never get there.

Of course it's a good idea to go to courses and improve, but OP is not going to be at a native level of English (good enough to write quality, engaging content) any time soon, and I don't think that is the primary direction he should be thinking about TBH.

Nah, I was backing you up - you basically summarised the whole point, why focus on content? MOST people's content won't cut it anyway. I have a UK University Arts education, I am a professional translator, I can write pretty damned good content in English, but I have never really made much online from content, not directly, anyway.

Having said that, not being able to write sales copy, JV offers, emails, etc. etc. limits your options further (like if you want to develop a product), but you just have to think outside the box.

Hi IMS, as your issue seems to be the English thingee, I'd do these things:

    - Listen to YouTube for hours every day, all videos in English
    - Watch Netflix; worth the 9 bucks a month
    - read Warrior Forum

Immerse yourself in English. You will learn it quickly and need to learn it quickly to have success in IM.

I learned Spanish some 20 years ago. Kinda fluent. Then I spent 6 months in a remote Costa Rican jungle. I had to speak Spanish because nobody there spoke English. Being forced to learn, I learned. It was uncomfortable but made me more fluent in Spanish.

Hi! It's good that you're helping yourself learn the language. All it takes is patience and perseverance. Don't look at other people. Focus on improving your skill and eventually you'll be a step ahead than when you were before. Keep your words simple and be direct to the point. Don't use flowery words because that will only complicate things. There's a lot of resources in Google and YouTube that'll help you improve your English. When I took the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), I just did my own review and took a short-term course for me to know the technicalities of the test. Here's an channel that you can subscribe to - https://www.youtube.com/user/EnglishByJade. Also, download an English dictionary and thesaurus app on your mobile phone for you to quickly check on terms that you don't encounter often.

I think You should start talking to people in English. It will help you a lot. I am also facing the same problem. But once I started a conversation in English then it seems to be a regular one. Try it and enjoy it. Or use Google Crome Extention Grammarly will help you a lot.

It all boils down to the CONTENT you're trying to get across.

    Is it COMPELLING?

Everything else can be outsourced or delegated.

    Remember that.

It's the MESSAGE not the medium.

I agree, but sometimes if you do outsource it can be less compelling. It's hard to "pay" for "compelling".

I always say that you should be your own inspiration. That's why I always have written my content myself

I guess you have 2 choices:

    1. either you improve your English (there are so many free sources on the internet, plus you are in the US right? Make some friends)
    2. or you can open businesses that do not require fluent English speaking skills

Someone mentioned that you can target the people who are just like YOU, who cannot speak very good English as well. They may feel the same way you do, is there anything you can do to help them and earn money?

I've been in IM for 8 months now. English is my second language too. I didn't make any money at first because I was still learning how it all works. I tried doing videos of myself and my accent. I would practice my script before even shooting my videos. I then realized that I could use other people's videos and Facebook Ads. I started to see results ($). Don give up. Make No excuse. If you're an Entrepreneur you'll find a way. Regards, Joe.

You don't need to speak perfect English in order to succeed.

Do you have small budget? If so, then outsource some material to a writer in the end. The important part is to find an industry and niche that's both profitable and suits you.

I could go on about how to improve your speaking and writing abilities, but I'm in a rush right now, maybe I'll return to this post later tonight and help you out.

    Good luck though!

    Regards,

    Karl
