Need your professional opinion on new site.

Hello All!

I'm posting today asking for your help and advice.

I've been browsing this site for years and know there are tones of professionals on here that provide amazing suggestions and pointers. You have saved me a few times when I have gone design blind and missed a few things. Thank you!

I'm officially posting on here today regarding a new site/project I am getting of the ground in hopes you can provide suggestions of areas to improve on the site. I know there will be a few as I am now just starting to clean the site up after the design process. My goal is to target big corporations for sponsorship but will be doing most activities for attendees offline.

What are your thoughts? What areas should I focus on improving first?

I would hugely appreciate any input you have. I want this project to have its best foot forward and need as much help as possible.

Thanks in advance.
Frank

      Hi Al,

The project is a series of free in-person workshops to get people of all ages online making money through eCommerce.

I'm seeking corporate sponsors to advertise at these workshops and show their support for helping people in the community earn income online and increase local wealth. There are different levels of sponsorship ranging from branding of materials, branded banners and workshop shout outs. All sponsors will also be provided back-links and a mention in any media coverage we get.

      Thoughts?

If this were my task, then I would be working on getting some success history of people going through the workshops and reporting testimonials of their success. This proof is easier to market than an unproven concept.

An idea on marketing to corporations: Offer them a way to stay connected to promising employees that they may have had to dismiss because of economic downsize.
"we want to stay connected even though we have to downsize to stay solvent. Try using this workshop training program to help with some income. Then when we are back on upswing we want to consider hiring you back because we value your skills"

      Hey DreamTex,

      Thanks for the comment.

I agree with gaining testimonials in and after the workshops. This is already built into our plan once we launch. We are hoping to secure at least a couple sponsors prior to launch but know it will be easier when we have examples to show.

I like your idea about approaching companies during a layoff. Most companies will invest in some sort of income replacement program. Not sure though if they would like our approach as part of our marketing is to create awareness of the local impact when they lay off.

      Thanks for the good thoughts.

I am curious how many people you will get locally. It's hard enough getting people to attend convenient, online workshops.

      Hi Brent,

That is the biggest part of this project. I feel most people don't even know where to start which is a big reason why so many don't even try.

Our plan is to go out in the local community and get people interested. We are approaching schools, retirement homes, local events and even some businesses... all in person.

We want to provide an environment for anyone to at least explore their ideas and be walked through the initial setup online. Break down all barriers as we say.

It will be challenging no doubt but the personal touch is how we will separate ourselves from other online only programs.

I love the idea as far as the service you offer Frank but agree with Brent in that doing it offline, meeting-wise, can be super challenging. I sometimes get emails from prospective clients who want to meet offline; this is virtually impossible from both sides of the fence unless you want to pay a pretty penny for transport.

This is definitely possible but I just feel you're limiting yourself a bunch, doing offline meet ups. Especially in a world where you can impact so many more folks through robust, easy to use webinar software.

      Hi ryanbiddulph,

      Thanks for the comment.

We will be looking to gain an online following and possibly add courses for them as well in the future.

I guess the best way to look at this program is similar to a Hackathon. We want to get a bunch of people together and during the 3 works shops have them take their idea online with support.

Just think of it in a way if you had an idea but never got around to it, someone says hey what are you waiting for? Why don't we take a couple hours each week for 3 weeks and see what we can do.

It's more of a way to push people into starting.

      Thoughts?
